When Mo Yu regained consciousness, he vaguely felt a soft, warm arm wrapped around his waist. His head… rested on something equally warm and inviting. Slowly, clarity returned to his mind.
Recalling something, a trace of astonishment flashed across Mo Yu's face. He stood up abruptly, just about to say something, when a chill suddenly pressed against his throat.
His body stiffened slightly as his peripheral vision caught sight of a strange snake-shaped sword gleaming coldly against his neck.
Mo Yu turned his head slightly to see Queen Medusa standing behind him. Her enchanting eyes, once hazy with allure, now brimmed with icy fury. She held the sword firmly, her delicate face a mask of cold determination.
Her chilling, murderous voice suddenly rang out, slicing through the silence.
"Mo Yu, how dare you do such a thing to this queen!" Though her tone was frosty, the memory of what had just transpired caused a strange, tingling heat to rise within Mo Yu.
But as the heat surged in his abdomen, the icy edge of the snake sword reminded him of the precarious situation he was in. He stiffened again, turning slowly to face the enraged woman.
Queen Medusa had already donned a set of clothing, though barely. Her outfit was provocatively casual, just enough to cover her ample chest. Below, she wore a short purple leather skirt that barely reached her thighs, leaving her smooth, slender legs exposed. The sight was enough to make one's throat go dry.
The curves of her snow-white waistline further accentuated her allure. Mo Yu couldn't help but tremble slightly at the memory of their earlier frenzied clash.
This woman, Mo Yu thought to himself, is simply a temptation that could drive any man mad.
Even knowing she was a deadly snake, Mo Yu couldn't stop his mind from replaying fragments of their recent encounter.
However, any lingering thoughts were swiftly dispelled by the icy gaze fixed on him. Mo Yu's guarded instincts flared, his mind sharpening.
His gaze finally settled on Queen Medusa's flawless yet frosty face. Rubbing his nose instinctively, he caught a faint scent lingering on his hand, causing him to freeze momentarily as his mind flashed back to the softness of her jade-like skin.
This absentminded gesture only made Queen Medusa more enraged. A blush crept across her icy cheeks, and her grip on the snake sword tightened. It seemed a mere flick of her wrist could end his life.
Steeling his nerves, Mo Yu forced a dry chuckle. "Your Majesty, what happened seems hardly my fault. If I recall correctly, you were the one who initiated things.
If anyone should be seeking justice here, it's me! After all, I'm not even married yet. According to the rules of the Dou Qi Continent, I might count as a desirable suitor. Countless women admire me, and you've taken advantage of me in such a way. Isn't it you who owes me an explanation?"
"You… I took advantage of you?" Queen Medusa's eyes widened in disbelief at his brazen words. It was as if she had never encountered such shamelessness before.
However, as she recalled the events from earlier, she couldn't deny that she had indeed been the one to lose control. A rare blush surfaced on her icy, flawless face.
"Damn this soul fusion!" she cursed inwardly.
The earlier incident wasn't her intention but rather a side effect of merging souls with the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python.
As a member of the snake people tribe, with its inherently carnal nature, the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python was no exception. While she usually suppressed these tendencies, the fusion process had momentarily overwhelmed her, leading to the current predicament.
Staring at Mo Yu's self-righteous demeanor, her anger surged again. A cold smirk formed on her lips, tinged with killing intent.
"No matter what, you've taken this queen's purity. Considering the favor you've done for me, I'll leave you with a whole corpse!"
With that, Queen Medusa waved her slender hand. In an instant, the surrounding space solidified, imprisoning Mo Yu in an unyielding spatial cage.
"Spatial solidification? This damned woman actually means it!" Mo Yu cursed internally, his face pale.
As he struggled within the frozen space, a familiar, overwhelming soul presence surged from the beast ring on his finger.
Under this powerful wave of soul energy, the surrounding spatial prison shattered like glass. Mo Yu's body regained its freedom.
A refined, cool laugh echoed in the chamber. She Lao's illusory figure emerged from the ring, hovering beside Mo Yu. His gentle smile turned toward the furious Queen Medusa.
"Little Medusa, you've gone too far this time."
Queen Medusa's complex emotions flickered across her face as she bit her lip lightly. "She Lao, I didn't expect to alarm you. Since you've witnessed everything, you must understand my predicament.
As the Queen of the Snake People Tribe, I've never been defiled before. Mo Yu must pay the price!"
Though her words were harsh, Queen Medusa reluctantly withdrew her sword. Despite her anger, she knew that She Lao was her senior. Given his relationship with Mo Yu, it was impossible for her to kill the man in his presence.
She Lao chuckled lightly, motioning for Mo Yu to step back. Then, he turned his gaze toward Queen Medusa.
"Ahem, I was aware of the situation earlier, but rest assured, I severed my soul perception the moment things escalated. I didn't witness anything… inappropriate."
At this, both Mo Yu and Queen Medusa exchanged awkward glances. The thought that they had forgotten about a third party during their earlier "struggles" made them both wish for a hole to crawl into.
Even Queen Medusa, whose cold beauty rarely faltered, showed a rare hint of embarrassment.
Amidst the tension between Mo Yu and Queen Medusa, She Lao sighed and clasped his hands behind his back, his voice calm but firm. "Though the situation unfolded as it did, the fault doesn't lie solely with Mo Yu. How can you place all the blame on him?"
Queen Medusa, her expression still icy, remained unconvinced. She Lao glanced at her and, as if recalling an old memory, a wistful smile appeared on his face. "You know, this isn't the first time I've witnessed such an event. Something similar happened to me, once."
"Oh? She Lao, you mean...?" Mo Yu, surprised, perked up, a trace of curiosity lighting his face.
Even Queen Medusa, despite her reserved demeanor, tilted her head slightly, her eyes betraying her interest. Indeed, gossip knows no boundaries, not age, gender, or race.
She Lao chuckled softly at their reactions. "You two..." Shaking his head, his expression grew reminiscent. "When I left the Snake-People Tribe to explore the continent, I once journeyed to Central Plains. There, I encountered an exceptionally talented and stunning woman."
"She was called Su Yao. At the peak of the Dou Huang level, she managed to defeat a two-star Dou Zong with her extraordinary Heavenly Demon Pagoda Melody. Her power and talent left a profound impression on me."
She Lao's smile deepened as he continued. "Through a twist of fate, we became companions on the road, forming a strong bond over time..."
"What happened after that?" Mo Yu eagerly pressed.
Even Queen Medusa nodded slightly in agreement, only to catch herself and immediately glare at Mo Yu with a sharp, chastising look.
Mo Yu shrugged helplessly.
Unbothered by their subtle exchange, She Lao continued, "I eventually obtained the Mysterious Yellow Flame and sought to evolve the ancient bloodline of our Snake-People Tribe into the Seven-Winged Purple-Gold Serpent. Little Medusa, you should be familiar with this—your Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline is even nobler than mine."
Queen Medusa gave a slight nod.
"The process of evolution was fraught with danger, and I had no human allies I could trust. So, I sent a message to Su Yao, requesting her help as a protector."
"Su Yao agreed without hesitation, traveling a great distance to aid me. However..." She Lao's voice faltered, his regret evident.
"However, during the evolution process, my bloodline spiraled out of control, leading to a... situation, much like what happened between you two earlier." His gaze dimmed. "After that night, Su Yao left me without a word. I haven't heard from her since."
Mo Yu and Queen Medusa were both taken aback. It was hard to imagine that such a dramatic and tragic event had also befallen She Lao.
"She Lao, who exactly is this Su Yao?" Mo Yu asked, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
She Lao's golden eyes glimmered faintly as he murmured, "It's been a long time. I only recall that she was a Saintess of the Sound Valley. By now, she's probably become the Valley Master."
"Sound Valley?" Mo Yu's eyes widened.
Based on She Lao's description, Su Yao's strength and talent were exceptional. Sound Valley was undoubtedly one of the renowned forces in the Central Plains—part of the "One Hall, One Tower, Two Sects, Three Valleys, and Four Pavilions," standing alongside Ice River Valley and Burning Flame Valley.
Mo Yu recalled that Sound Valley had remained mysterious and absent from the original story. Yet, She Lao's connection to its current leader added an intriguing layer.
If given the chance, Mo Yu resolved to visit Sound Valley someday. After all, She Lao had helped him tremendously—it was only right to attempt to resolve his regrets.
Lost in thought, Mo Yu was brought back to the present by She Lao's voice. "So, Little Medusa, what happened between you and Mo Yu isn't entirely either of your faults. It's the ancient snake bloodline to blame.
"Now that the deed is done, there's no use dwelling on it. I think Mo Yu is quite suitable for you. Pairing him with a Snake-People Queen and the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline sounds like a match made in heaven."
She Lao smiled warmly. "Today, let me play matchmaker and bring you two together. What do you think?"
Queen Medusa froze, her delicate face revealing a rare trace of shock. A faint blush quickly spread across her cheeks.
Mo Yu, equally surprised, hadn't expected She Lao to step in so boldly. However, he wasn't one to shirk responsibility. Smiling, he turned to Queen Medusa and said, "In that case, should we consider ourselves married from now on?"
"I didn't agree to anything!" Queen Medusa huffed, her luscious lips curving into a pout as she shut down Mo Yu's attempt to draw them closer.
"Alright, alright. Have it your way." Mo Yu shrugged nonchalantly. "But She Lao is right—what's done is done. We might as well face it head-on instead of fighting endlessly.
"By the way, how about I give you a proper name? After all, 'Queen Medusa' is a title passed down among your tribe, not an actual name."
"Don't trouble yourself!" Queen Medusa replied coldly, her tone dismissive.
"How about Cai Lin?" Mo Yu suggested with a smile. "It suits you perfectly."
"I said, I don't need one!" Queen Medusa's irritation flared, her piercing eyes locking onto Mo Yu.
Yet, as her gaze lingered on his warm, confident smile, some of her anger inexplicably faded. Her voice softened, though it retained its edge.
"Queen Medusa is my name and my identity. I don't need you to change it." With that, she turned away and leaped into the distance.
Watching her retreating figure, Mo Yu called out playfully, "You've taken on a human form now—no more half-human, half-serpent appearance. You'll need a proper name sooner or later. From now on, I'll just call you Cai Lin. 'Queen Medusa' is too much of a mouthful."
Queen Medusa faltered mid-air, her expression flickering briefly. Yet, for once, she didn't lash out. Instead, her figure blurred as she vanished into the distance.
