chapter 89

The moment Alex says Michael's name, the air between us shifts.

The heat of our kiss still lingers on my lips, but the warmth is gone, replaced by something sharp, something cold.

Michael knows.

Knows what? That Alex is here? That we almost—

I swallow hard, my heart hammering against my ribs as Alex stares at his phone, jaw clenched so tight I can see the muscle ticking beneath his skin. His fingers curl around the device like a vice, tension coiling through his entire body.

"What did he say?" My voice comes out hoarse, raw from the weight of what we almost did.

Alex exhales sharply, a low, ragged sound, and then he turns the screen toward me.

A single message glows against the darkness of his phone.

Michael: Enjoy your last moment with her, brother. Because I'm coming for what's mine.

A shiver races down my spine.

Mine.
