Chapter 6

"Mom, are you really not coming?" I kept asking her, but she refused. I continued to asked her.

"Okay, fine. If you're not coming with me, I'll just call you here. Okay, Mom?" She nodded, making me feel even heavier.

I'm not used to going far away, especially without my mom.

"What are you talking about, my child! Don't worry about me here." She gave me a sweet smile. "It's you I'm worried about. No one will take care of you if you get sick. And I won't have anyone to wake up in the morning and cook for."

"Oh, alright. You're so dramatic! Come on, the driver has been waiting outside for a while now." She walked me outside to the car.

"Mom, you might change your mind." I joked, but the sadness in my tone wouldn't go away.

What's going to happen? I'm a mama's girl.

"Sus, you're just a child. Get in there, you might be late because of the traffic... Just remember when you come home, you're not bringing any boys with you. I'll really pinch you!" she threatened me.

I just hugged my mom tightly.

"Bye, Mom." I waved at her before getting in the car.

We're going to the company first, then we'll go straight there because I still need to get the key of his son's condo.

I just looked down when I felt tears rolling down my cheeks. I sobbed softly.

I'm not even there yet, and I miss my mom.

"Thank you. Finally, the good one is leaving." Rex greeted me sarcastically upon my arrival.

I just ignored him because of what he said.

"You're treating us to the bar next time you come back, okay." Lesley said, approaching me and whispering.

I was surprised by what she whispered. "Maybe Mr. Coat is there. The one who gave you the coat last night." She gave me a playful smile. "He smells like your guy from last time-" I covered her mouth. I didn't want to hear the words coming out from her mouth right now.

"Definitely not him!" I said confidently.

She burst out laughing, so I glared at her.

"Whatever, you're on your own!" I said before getting into the elevator and pressing the button for the CEO's floor.

"Good morning, sir, and Mr. Secretary," I greeted the secretary and CEO of this company.

"Oh, good morning too, Miss Zhanielle." He smiled while sipping his coffee. He also took something from his desk drawer. "Here's the key." He handed me the key.

This must be the key to his son's condo.

I bowed to him in gratitude.

"Thank you, Sir." I smiled weakly.

He nodded, so I left.

"We'll miss you, beh." Lesley pretended to cry while Rex fanned himself as if he was about to faint at any moment.

They were just being silly.

"I'm not dead yet, you two are so dramatic!" I said.

"Just make sure you treat me, okay?" I just nodded at him.

He clapped his hands in delight and jumped up and down.

"Oh, okay, I'll go first." I said goodbye to the two.

The others in the office, who had also become our friends, waved and I bid my goodbye. I'm not going abroad, just moving to another place.

I'll be starting work in the afternoon. Sir, the CEO, has already informed the company I'm transferring to.

I saw the Magallanes boundary, indicating that we're already in their area. I didn't even notice because I was looking outside the window.

This is the first time I've seen the scenery here. I don't go to Magallanes very often. I feel like an ignorant child who's just left their house for the first time.

"We're here, ma'am." The car stopped in front of a tall building.

I think this is the condominium where Sir's son lives. I mean, one of the rooms in it.

"Let me help you with your luggage, ma'am." The driver said before taking the large suitcase I was carrying.

I looked at the key, which had a room number on it.

I read the room number. "Room 516, please, kuya," I said when we got out of the elevator.

Sir's son's room is on the 30th floor.

"Thank you for the ride and for carrying my things, kuya." I gave him a sweet smile, as a thank you.

He quickly nodded before saying goodbye. "I'll be on my way now, ma'am."

"Okay, be careful on the road. Thank you again." I replied to him.

I went to the terrace of this room. I could see the cars driving by. There was traffic in front, and the people looked like ants from here. They're so small, imagine if I was on the rooftop?

"The view here will be beautiful at night. There are so many buildings, and their lights will look like stars on the ground." I said to myself.

I saw a cabinet, so I checked if there was anything in it.

There were no items or clothes. The whole room was clean.

I thought for a moment.

"It seems like Sir's son hasn't lived here for a long time?" I asked myself.

I just shook my head at my question. I was talking to myself, and I still managed to ask a question.

I felt hungry, so I went to the kitchen after putting all my clothes in the cabinet.

"What the heck! I thought there was food here, but there's nothing." I scratched my head when I opened the empty refrigerator.

Sir's son definitely didn't live here anymore.

I brought my pancit canton and cup noodles, but it wouldn't be nice without rice.

"Even rice? Nothing!"

I stomped my foot in annoyance.

"I'm so lucky. The fridge is empty, and there's no rice." I slammed the refrigerator door shut.

"It's so tiring to go grocery shopping! And I don't know my way around here, to the grocery store or even the market." I complained to myself. "Lord, you can take Sir now." I mocked the CEO.

I know it's wrong, but I couldn't help myself because of my annoyance.

"I'll just ask outside." I took my wallet from the coffee table.

I went out of the condo and locked it. It's better to be safe than sorry, because the things inside are expensive.

I waited for a few minutes before the elevator opened. I got inside and pressed the ground floor, but before it closed, a person's hand got in the way. So it opened again. Thankfully, he wasn't trapped.

A tall man entered, he was white with green eyes like mine. He was only up to my chest.

I'm not short, I'm 5'7. This guy is just tall, probably over 6 feet.

He smiled sweetly when he saw me. We were the only two here.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I was in a hurry because the delivery was waiting downstairs, but they weren't allowed in here." He apologized. He didn't seem fluent in English because his pronunciation was a bit slangy.

"Oh, it's okay," I smiled weakly because he was staring at me.

He was inspecting me with just his gaze. I was getting a little nervous. Why is it taking so long to get down? It's like the elevator is slowing down.

"Is there a problem? You've been staring at me since earlier." I asked awkwardly.

He shook his head. "Nothing. It's just that you look familiar." He said with an accent. "Are you new here?" I nodded.

"Yeah, my boss made me stay at his son's condo. I was transferred to another company." I answered nonchalantly.

"Ah, that's why I haven't seen you here before." He nodded.

"What's your room number?"

I nervously looked at the man in front of me.

What if he's a bad guy? The kind who kidnaps people and sells your organs.

"Don't worry, I'm not a bad guy." He seemed to read my mind.

"Room 516," I just told him my room number. He seemed trustworthy.

"Oh, we're neighbors! I'm in room 519." He said happily.

I don't know what came over me, but I felt so comfortable with him. It's like if he smiled at any moment, I'd smile back.

I also felt like I wanted to hug him tightly, and that feeling of missing him so much.

I don't know, I'm just being myself.

"Btw, I'm Zain Zucchini. You can call me Zain. And you?" He extended his hand, probably for a handshake?

Zucchini? Isn't that cucumber?

I took his hand. "I'm Zhanielle. Elle for short." He seemed surprised when I said my name.

"Okay, Elle. Here's my calling card, you can call me anytime."

I didn't want to be rude, so I accepted his calling card.

"Where are you going?" he asked when the elevator opened.

Finally.

"To the grocery store," I looked at him.

"Oh, do you know where it is?" I just shook my head.

I'm shy to answer.

"Great! I have nothing to do today, I'll just accompany you. Is that okay with you?"

"Okay, it's fine." I answered him.

"Just wait a minute, okay! I'll go get the delivery in the lobby area. Wait for me at the entrance." He ran off in a hurry.

I started walking towards the entrance.

After about five minutes, I saw him smiling broadly as he walked towards me.

"Let's go! We'll just use my car." He said excitedly.

He opened the door for me, so I couldn't help but smile at him.

"Thanks." I thanked him.

Whoever his girlfriend is is lucky, he's so gentlemanly.

"We're here," he got out first and opened the door for me.

He even helped me get out.

"Careful!" he said and put his hand on my head to prevent me from bumping it.

I went straight to where the carts were. I took a large cart, it looked like I could ride it.

I didn't bring a list, but I saved what I needed to buy in my phone notes.

Earlier, while on the way here, I was making a list of what to buy.

I went to where the vegetables, meat, fruits, and snacks were, the ones I eat when I have to work at home late at night.

Zain was now pulling the cart I was carrying earlier, while I just followed behind him.

I remembered his name again. Zain Zucchini, I think I've heard that name from someone.

I just shrugged my shoulders while choosing drinks.

Not alcohol, okay, like soft drinks or Chuckie, as long as it's not alcohol.

I also got two bear brand milk.

I don't like coffee!

"I'll just line up so you can pay." I took the cart from him.

"Okay, I'll just wait here." I nodded in response.

"That's 1,856 in total, ma'am!" the cashier said smiling.

I gave her two thousand.
