CHAPTER 1 : ME

I am dark in complexion, tall and plumpy. Looking very much like someone from a rich home in spite of our actual financial status. I was pretty, at least that was what everybody says. I was attending St. Mark Anglican school, Anambra State. I took second position each term, once I took first position, and my parents almost slaughtered a ram for me. My parents are MR and MRS Chukwuemeka. Though they were poor, they have jobs that barely provided our basic needs. My dad plants for people and gets paid, he also plants in his own small farm for the family consumption. My mum, on the other hand, sells in a provision store and gets paid as a sales girl, she has crayfish and vegetables in the store that she sells for herself. My parents were very hardworking. Though we cant always afford 3 square meals but 2 meals a day is guaranteed.I was doing very well in school. Apart from my brilliance, I also had an exceptional character which yielded me plenty and plenty of gifts. There was this award titled 'BEST STUDENT FOR THE YEAR' and the prizes were a new school bag, a dozen of notebooks, a mathematical set, and writing materials and many more. I usually bring those prizes home. As a matter of fact, my mum didn't have to buy a school bag for me for a long time. Sometimes she sells them.Though I was the only child of my parents, I wasn't pampered. They taught me well and knew when and how to discipline.Honestly, I was contented with everything. I remember how my mum will tell me stories and moral lessons on contentment, honesty, and giving. I loved life just simple as it was.
