Chapter 16: Constructing a New Spiritual Field

Having made his plan, Fang Yun began implementing it without hesitation. After having a satisfying meal, it served as a good way to digest.

He arrived at the cave entrance, carefully observing the surrounding environment and the direction of sunlight. Eventually, he chose a relatively flat area. This spot was not far from the cave and received just the right amount of sunlight, making it suitable for the new spiritual field.

However, there was a somewhat tricky issue: the entrance of the cave had almost no soil, just hard rocks. Creating a new spiritual field here would likely require a significant amount of effort. Fortunately, Fang Yun had just broken through to the second level of Qi training; otherwise, he would truly be at a loss facing these stubborn rocks.

After selecting the location, Fang Yun first found a heavy hammer among the many items collected by previous cultivators. This was one of the advantages of being a low-level farming cultivator: they had access to the labor tools they needed.

Then, with the enhancement of his mana, he raised the hammer high and brought it down forcefully onto the ground. The powerful impact from the hammer caused the rocks on the ground to shatter. Within two hours, almost half an acre of the area was cleared of rocks.

For this new spiritual field, Fang Yun planned to expand its size a bit. After all, once the first batch of spiritual rice matured, he would still have some seeds on hand. Additionally, placing the spiritual field at the entrance of the cave would ensure it received enough spiritual energy for its use.

After clearing away the crushed surface rocks, Fang Yun continued to break apart the deeper layers of rock until the half-acre area was cleared to a depth of half a meter. Only then did he finally stop.

With all the rocks cleared away, it was time to lay down some soil. Fang Yun took a bucket, a shovel, and a hoe to the original location of the spiritual field. He carefully dug out all the soil from there and transported it to the newly dug pit at the cave entrance.

However, the amount of soil from the original spiritual field was far from enough. Following that, Fang Yun used the Earth Force Technique to extract rich nutrients from other locations on the mountain, forming high-quality soil rich in fertility. He then tirelessly transported this soil to the new spiritual field.

Although this newly transported soil did not contain any spiritual power at the moment, with the subsequent nourishment from the spiritual spring, it wouldn't take long before it could be transformed into fertile land imbued with spiritual energy.

Ten days later, all the soil was successfully moved to the new spiritual field. Fang Yun then began to dig a waterway from the cave that would lead directly to the new spiritual field. The goal was to allow the water from the spiritual spring to flow directly into the spiritual field after it exited the cave, thus ensuring that the new spiritual rice would have ample supply of spiritual energy.

With the waterway completed, fresh spring water flowed continuously into the brand new spiritual field. Subsequently, he dug another waterway from the opposite end of the spiritual field to guide the water that had passed through it into the previous waterway.

In this way, the spring water flowing through the spiritual field would continue down the mountain to the great river on the plains. After all, that river had to nourish tens of thousands of acres of rice fields, and the spring water here was also of some use to them. He couldn't cut off the spring water from the lower mountain just to plant spiritual rice.

After doing all this, he needed to rely on the spring water to continuously nourish the soil in the spiritual field until it met the standards for planting spiritual rice. While the soil hadn't yet reached the required standard, Fang Yun also took the opportunity to handle the seedling cultivation for the new spiritual rice.

He entered the new spiritual field and used the Earth Force Technique. As he quietly recited the incantation, his hand gestures changed continuously, and a yellow light shone in his hand before being infused into the spiritual field ahead of him.

Suddenly, the scene of the spiritual fields within several meters around Fang Yun clearly appeared in his view. Not only could he see the ordinary energy found in the usual soil, but he could also perceive strands of crystalline energy. Upon seeing this crystalline energy, Fang Yun instantly realized that this was the spiritual energy visible under his special vision.

So, he changed the hand seals in his hands, and the surrounding energy began to converge towards the ground beneath him. As the ordinary energy gathered, the spiritual energy was also drawn in, merging together in the soil at Fang Yun's feet.

With the successful execution of the Earth Force Technique, Fang Yun exited that special vision. Looking at the soil he had gathered, rich in fertility and spiritual energy, he isolated it in one corner of the spiritual field. He then evenly sprinkled the spiritual rice seeds he had previously saved onto this seedbed and smoothed them out, burying them into the soil.

After doing all this, the next step was to patiently wait for the spiritual rice seeds to sprout and for the soil in the spiritual field to be nourished to the proper standard. Once that happened, he could begin planting new spiritual rice.

While waiting, Fang Yun began to study the Spirit Rain Technique. He didn't need to flip through books for details; everything required for casting the Spirit Rain Technique was deeply etched in his mind.

"Clouds gather, spiritual rain descends, nourishing the earth…"

As he recited the incantation, the hand seals in his hands changed. Driven by these actions, his mana, now at the second level of Qi training, began to flow along a mysterious and profound trajectory.

As the mana circulated, an indescribable wave of energy radiated from Fang Yun's body. Soon, a large amount of moisture began to condense in the sky above, and then a cloud about one square meter in size slowly appeared.

Seeing this situation, Fang Yun realized that his spell was being successfully cast. He focused intently, not daring to let any distraction enter his mind. The hand seals in his hands continued to change, guiding the mana inside his body to operate continuously along the mysterious angles.

After a while, the cloud above condensed to its limit, and strands of rain began to fall towards the spiritual field below. Seeing his spell succeed, Fang Yun's heart surged with excitement.

As his emotions fluctuated, the mana within his body also began to pulse. As a result, the clouds above, which hadn't released much rain yet, started to disperse slowly due to the influence. However, Fang Yun didn't mind too much; after all, the spell had been successfully cast, and it would be easier to cast next time.

He opened his panel.

Cultivation: Second Level Qi Training

Mana: 32

Life Energy: 23

Control over Plants: Astragalus (2536) …

Spell: Earth Force Technique (Proficient 5%) Spirit Rain Technique (Beginner 1%)

Sure enough, the Spirit Rain Technique was now at the beginner level. He hadn't expected that when practicing the Earth Force Technique, he had struggled and failed dozens of times. Yet, practicing the Spirit Rain Technique, he succeeded on his first try.

Could it be that he had a talent for casting water-based spells? Or was his water element root particularly excellent? When the Fang family had tested his spirit root, they could only detect the presence of spirit roots with a simple spirit-testing stone. They couldn't identify which type of spirit root he had or which one was superior.

This was unavoidable; for a semi-cultivating family, maintaining the presence of cultivators in the family was already quite good. There was no need to expect more.
