Chapter 31

Theon leaped into action when he heard the first scream.

It was an all out war zone in the royal palace right now.

Royal guards fought the zombies with weapons or/and abilities.

Servants scrambled and ran to get to a safe location to hide out the all out war between the royal palace and its undead intruders. The lucky ones had been able to get to a closest or barricade themselves in a room. The unlucky ones were forced to hide under tables or behind curtains or just curl up in a corner and pray that they'll survive the onslaught.

Zombies were beheaded, limbs cut off, speared through with arrows or spears. But that did little to stop them as the undead can not feel pain at all.

Instead, they continued to charge forward, spears and arrows stuck inside their chests, arms, legs or even head, missing arms or legs. One zombie lost both legs but continued to drag itself along the floor.

Fireballs burned the zombies and set them on fire but did little to stop the zombies from charging at them, looking like the fiends of hell itself with undead bodies on fire. The smell of burning flesh filled the air.

A man trapped a small hoard of zombies inside of a bubble of water but trapping undead beings inside of water isn't a very smart idea since those things couldn't die from drowning.

An invisible man with a sword went around cutting off undead heads but being headless had no effect on zombies as their headless undead bodies continued to attack and charge.

The zombies that managed to get a hold of a person started to eat them alive, ripping off strips of flesh from the still living victims. Blood started to pool onto the ground as more and more guards and a few unlucky servants were eaten alive by the zombies.

Many people were left in shock and fear as they saw friends and people being killed and eaten right before their eyes. Fear is a deadly poison and soon, many people were left trembling and shaking, their minds weakened and unable to handle death and blood all around them.

Some lost the will to fight as they curled up onto the floor, shaking and crying.

Theon summoned numerous metal shards that twirled and danced in his hands as he threw them at the undead intruders inside the palace. The metal shards pierced right through the zombies bodies but it seemed to have no effect in stopping them or killing them. Theon cursed and changed up tactics by instead creating a fan of metal shards in front of him and then throwing them at the zombies like throwing knives. The metal shards hit their mark but did little to stop the zombies coming at him.

His mother, Concubine Odessa, was busy making zombies explode and turn into little pieces of zombie with her explosion ability.

A zombie bulged and expanded three times in size before it exploded, sending zombie guts and limbs flying everywhere. Some of that disgusting stuff got on the walls, some on the floor, some on Lady Odessa herself.

A man who looked to be her identical twin was alway busy making zombies explode like indeed bombs. He also caused the floors and walls to explode as well, trapping zombies underneath piles of rubble or knocking them off their feet. The floor exploded in front of him and three zombies were sent flying out the window while another zombie went crashing into the wall.

The man made a zombie's head explode right off its shoulders with a wave of his hand. The zombies hit the ground limp and lifeless as a rag doll behind him. He was starting to get tired and worn out now. How many of these freaks did he explode already? 20? 30? 100? He didn't know but he was starting to run out of mana now. His sister looked like she was reaching her limit as well now but she was no quitter and continued to fight.

"MOM!!"

Theon couldn't fight back against these undead freaks as his metal had no effect on them at all.

Odessa saw her son was in danger, being backed into a corner by 5 zombies, and she quickly, with a snap of her fingers, made all five zombies lose their heads in a loud-and gruesome-explosion of flesh and gore. The zombies fell down lifelessly onto the ground.

Theon raced over to his mom and hugged her.

"Mom, I can't kill these things!! My metal has no effect on them!!"

Odessa hugged her son back and smoothed his reddish-brown hair.

"Mama's here now, baby boy. I won't let these things hurt you."

The man saw a hoard of zombies coming in from behind his sister and nephew. At least 20 or 30 zombies.

He put all of his remaining mana into this last attack and all the zombies exploded in a disgusting display of flesh and guts.

The windows were caked in undead zombies and so were the ceilings, walls and floors.

He kneeled over on the floor, energy entirely spent and drained.

Theon and Odessa both rushed over to the man.

"Uncle Achilles!! Are you okay?"

Odessa panicked and put a hand on her brother's shoulders.

"Hilly!! Can you still hear me?"

Achilles looked up and smiled.

"I'm fine, just tried. But let's move before any more of those freaks get us."

Odessa and Theon both nodded and they stepped Achilles onto his feet.

The sounds of fighting were still ongoing.

A servant girl screamed for her life as a zombie chased after her down the hallway.

Her pale green hair fluttered behind her as she ran as fast as she could as the zombie, flesh falling off its body and beady red eyes glowing with hunger and bloodthirst, chased after her.

She suddenly tripped and fell down onto the ground and she knew she was doomed.

The zombie was standing over her now, mouth drooling and growling like a vicious predator.

Then, the zombie was growling louder but it sounded like it was in pain.

Its rotting and discolored flesh turned gray and stone-like as the same grayness overtook its pain. Its face was contorted into a display of fear and agony-emotions it thought it had lost once it lost both its life and humanity- as it was transformed into a stone statue.

The girl turned to look at her savior.

It was Myna. Myna's eyes were glowing slightly and emitting a faded golden light.

"Run, girl. Go down to the kitchen. There's people hiding out there and you'll be safe there too."

The girl only nodded as she got up onto her feet and raced past Myna in the direction of the kitchen which wasn't too far away from here.

Myna watched the girl run away.

She hadn't used her ability in a long, long time and it was starting to take a toll on her. She neglected the proper training of her ability since it required living beings in order to do so and Myna didn't want to hurt a living being. Now she was paying the price for a lack of proper ability training.

She already turned 5 zombies into stone- including the one she just transformed-and she felt her mana already at dangerously low levels and knew she was tiring out now.

Myna ran a hand through her hair and looked out the window to see fighting still going on.

She hoped that Arya, Elijah, Catalina and everyone else was alright and okay.

Right now, she had to take care of herself first.

There was a small hoard of zombies coming from in front of her and behind her, trapping her in the middle.

….

Ezekiel was all by himself and he could go all out without the fear of accidentally hurting someone.

Ezekiel was in a room full of zombies and he summoned a lot of lightning into his hand, condensed it into a small ball before he released all that electricity into the air.

An explosion of lightning filled up the entire room and fired all of the zombies into piles of ashes.

Ezekiel sighed as he was soon surrounded by piles of ashes.

He rushed down the hallway.

Zombies saw him coming and charged at him.

Ezekiel channeled lightning into his hands and he sped around the hallway, kicking and punching and taking out zombies like they were nothing more than living punching bags for him.

A punch to the face, a kick in the guts, a back kick. A straight punch that sent a zombie flying back down the hallway where it crashed into its fellow undead zombies and knocked them down like dominos. Side kick, roundhouse kick, a right hook.

Ezekiel sent zombies flying left and right. The lightning covering his hands and feet increases the damage done to the zombies as their rotting flesh were burned off

But little did anyone know that the fight was still not over yet.

The fight has only just begun.
