DARIUS POV
Ravenna stared at her hands like they were strangers, and I stared at her like I didn't know who was standing in front of me.
In a way, I didn't.
My hand went to the shoulder where she had struck me and it hurt like hell.
"I… I didn't mean to hit you that hard," she stuttered, her hands shaking. "I just… I just felt this burst of energy. My veins felt like they were on fire."
I rose from my knees and held her shaking hands in mine, she stared up at me, her eyes lost. My chest tightened at the sight and I just wanted to hug her but I resisted.
I also felt that energy, with how hard the nunchaku had landed on me. Her arm had vibrated with the force. And I think my goddamn shoulder must be broken.
That strength was not natural, and even her fast reflexes. The way she had dodged that strike was next to impossible if you were a human.
Ravenna squeezed my hands with her own that has stopped shaking. She looked up at me and my throat closed up. Her eyes were soft. She wasn't looking at me like she wanted to rip my head off my shoulders. She wasn't looking at me how she had looked at my wolf.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice soft. She has never also spoken to me with her voice this soft.
"No," I answered. "My shoulder is broken."
Ravenna's eyes widened, and her hands that were still on mine tightened. "Liar."
I frowned, even though she was right. My shoulder had healed. "You just nearly killed me, Ravenna. Show mercy."
She worried her bottom lip with her teeth and my eyes dropped to them. Before I could think I reached out and peeled her lip out of her teeth.
Ravenna's lips parted with a small gasp and I wanted to put my tongue inside. My heart was beating like crazy as I raised my eyes to hers.
Her own eyes were fixed on my lips. Blood shot to my groin when she licked her lips, leaving them glossy with her spit.
Ravenna raised her eyes to mine and pulled away when she saw me watching her, her cheeks pink.
She cleared her throat. "I… ehn...sorry about your shoulder. I'm sure it'll heal soon. You know, you're an alpha and all that. With super healing. You'll be fine."
I smiled as she babbled, her face turning red. She caught me smiling and stopped talking.
She cleared her throat again and then turned. "Good night, Darius." And she was gone.
I stood there long after she was gone, still smiling like a madman. I felt like I was floating.
Ravenna had not looked at me with her eyes hard, her voice was soft when she spoke to me, her hand had been warm in mine, and she had a hungry look in her eyes when she had looked at my lips.
I placed my palm over my throat to stop it from beating wildly. If it continued beating this fast I fear it would stop.
God, this woman was driving me crazy.
Each moment with her kept confirming what I was trying so hard to deny. I couldn't deny it for much longer.
RAVENNA POV
A silver wolf stared down at me, her eyes bright. I raised my hand to her nose and she pushed her face into my hand.
"You're so beautiful," I whispered.
She left my hand and started sniffing down at me, then she moved away from me and bowed her head to me.
I felt a warmth spread through my body, from head to toe. I felt that tingling in my chest again. The wolf raised her head and fixed her eyes on me and I felt the stirring within me again.
I blinked my eyes open to a familiar roof staring at me. No beautiful silver wolf was staring down at me or bowing to me.
What a strange dream. I sat up and rubbed my hand on my chest. Even though it had been a dream I still felt the tangling in my chest, the warmth that was wrapping around me. But what I didn't feel was the stirring within me.
It had been the same as that day in the forest during the full moon.
I rubbed my eyes and climbed out the bed. Mia was still sleeping so I was careful not to disturb her.
I went inside the bathroom and raised my chest to look at my scar. It was still the same. Nothing was different, but it still tingles.
I turned away from the mirror and started preparing my bath. As I sat in the tub my mind couldn't help but wonder about a particular person.
Last night was weird, but I liked it regardless of how many times I told myself that I didn't.
I had liked Darius' finger on my lips, the look in his eyes when they dropped to my lips, I had liked the feeling that gathered in my belly, I had liked how my body had reacted to him.
I sighed and sank deeper into the tub. What the hell was this? I had never reacted this way to anyone before. Not when Lucas and I had been dating. Not anyone before.
So why then was my heart racing just at the thought of Darius? Why then was warmth pooling in between my legs? I had never touched myself before but just the thought of Darius made me want to.
I climbed out of the tub with a huff of frustration, hating myself for thinking such a thing.
I had to remind myself that Darius was the enemy. But those words were becoming useless.
Mia was already awake when I walked back to the room. We greeted each other and she went inside the bathroom.
I dressed and sat by the window, staring at the sunrise. The door clicked open and Anya entered.
This small woman didn't know how to knock. I smiled at her regardless. I was starting to like her.
"Good morning," I greeted.
"Morning," she responded and went back to her normal routine.
My traitorous mind ended up straying to Darius once more. I couldn't feel this thing I was feeling for him. It was wrong.
"He's not a bad person, you know." Anya's voice startled me out of my thoughts.
"Who?" I asked.
She turned to me, and there was a small smile on her face. Was this the same Anya I know? "Darius."
My pulse jumped. "What do you mean?"
"I mean if the gossip is to be trusted then I know it's Darius you're thinking about."
Heat rushed to my face and I looked away. Anya chuckled softly and I snapped my head to her, shocked. Seriously, who was this woman?
"I raised him," she said, continuing with her work. "He was so small then. So small and full of life. He wanted to do things, but that monster crushed his dreams."
My brows draw together. "Who?"
Anya didn't answer me and just kept walking. "He's a good person, Ravenna." She turned to me. "He's just broken." She picked up a basket and left.
I stared at the door, confused. Who was this monster that Anya was talking about? Her eyes looked pained when she mentioned him. She seems to care for Darius though. That was normal. The whole pack loved him.
But what did she mean by he was broken?
And why did I want to mend him back?
