Penny Summers hadn't expected Ross to know anything about why she was here, yet he did—and that confused her to no end.
Still, that didn't mean she would fall into his trap, as so many of his wives had before.
"Even so, I'm still not interested. Please, find someone else to bother," Penny said firmly.
"As you wish, but it's a futile attempt, really. With how small-brained your husband is, he'll keep pushing you to come here, trying to assuage his guilt for not satisfying you anymore. And when you finally can't take it, know that I'll be waiting," Ross replied smoothly, his voice dripping with confidence.
Then, he simply sat there in silence, as if he were Penny's silent shadow.
He drank a lot, but his mere presence was enough to make it clear to every man in the room that Penny was off-limits.
It was obvious he was staking his claim, barricading her for himself.
When the clock struck midnight, Penny left without a word.
