Chapter 73: How Frugal I Am

The television displayed the news channel.

"Just moments ago, an evil creature appeared on Changchun Road. Citizens planning to go to Changchun Road, please avoid the area. Those currently on Changchun Road, please find shelter immediately."

Lin Fan and Old Man Zhang watched the news with impassive faces, completely unperturbed. They didn't have any strong reaction to the news of the evil creature.

Other patrons in the breakfast shop stared blankly at the television. Their food suddenly lost its appeal. Reacting to the news, they jumped up and ran. If they remembered correctly, this street they were on seemed to be Changchun Road.

Run!

The breakfast shop owner, who had been steaming buns, dropped everything and fled in terror upon seeing the scene. He was in the middle of making perfectly good buns, and then this happened. It was simply too terrifying.

"You three, run too!" the owner, a kind man, shouted, seeing Lin Fan and the others still sitting foolishly.

He was taken aback when they simply stared at him with confused and bewildered expressions. What are you thinking? he wondered.

Forget it, he thought. I've already told you clearly. I'm getting out of here.

A prostitute anxiously watched the fleeing crowd on the street. She was also shocked by the news report. An evil creature was wreaking havoc on Changchun Road. If she didn't run, she would definitely regret it.

However, Lin Fan and Old Man Zhang were calmly sitting there, eating.

For some reason, she felt a sense of dissonance.

"When will the meat buns be ready?"

"I don't know."

Hearing their conversation, the prostitute understood. They were indeed mentally ill, completely unaware of the impending danger, not even paying attention to it.

On the street, shoppers were running in all directions. They hadn't seen the news, but how did they know about the evil creature? Well, that was obvious. From a distance, they could see the evil creature, at least three or four meters tall, destroying the surrounding buildings.

They could see it with their own eyes.

The moment the Special Department detected the energy fluctuation, they immediately dispatched personnel for support.

These evil creatures were becoming increasingly audacious, daring to cause destruction in the city in broad daylight, completely disregarding the Special Department.

In the sky, a raven with jet-black feathers circled, its ruby-like eyes fixed on the scene below. Then, it folded its wings and landed on a building, quietly observing.

The destructive evil creature was a giant bear, three to four meters tall, immensely powerful. It tossed cars around like toys.

Meanwhile, on a neighboring street, Liu Ying was shopping with his girlfriend. He was a member of the Special Department, sporting a conspicuous shaved head. He wasn't particularly fond of the look, but he was prematurely balding.

There was no other choice. Shaving his head was not only refreshing but also saved him money on shampoo.

His girlfriend praised his frugality, suggesting he use the saved money to buy her underwear or a box of condoms.

He stood outside a lingerie store, wearing sunglasses, while his girlfriend browsed inside. As a gentleman, how could he enter a lingerie store? He would be the subject of ridicule if anyone saw him.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a message. An evil creature had appeared on Changchun Road, estimated to be level four based on energy readings.

Liu Ying's expression turned serious. He glanced at his girlfriend, who was still choosing lingerie, and without a word, rushed towards Changchun Road.

He was a graduate of the Maoshan Academy, and his power level was also four. Dealing with an equally ranked evil creature was tricky.

The biggest problem was that he was currently on vacation and unprepared. Fighting without his tools would put him at a significant disadvantage.

"Damn it, I should have brought my gear," Liu Ying lamented as he ran, hoping he could at least stall the creature until his teammates arrived.

He soon spotted the rampaging evil creature on the street. His jaw dropped. This creature seemed to be a power type. With his slight build, he might not be able to withstand a single blow.

He took off his sunglasses and pocketed them.

A terrified scream pierced the air. A young woman had fallen in front of the giant bear. Seeing the bear's paw coming down towards her, she was paralyzed with fear. That blow would crush her.

"Immobilization spell!" Liu Ying chanted, drawing a seal in the air with his finger and striking at the giant bear. The creature briefly faltered, as if momentarily frozen.

Liu Ying seized the opportunity, leaping forward with incredible speed, reaching the young woman and pulling her aside.

The bear's paw slammed down, shattering the pavement.

"As expected, it's a bit difficult without my tools. I can only immobilize it for an instant," Liu Ying thought, realizing the giant bear was a formidable opponent. Regardless, he had to hold out until reinforcements arrived.

"Miss, run! This thing is dangerous!"

The young woman fled without a word of thanks.

Liu Ying scratched his head and sighed. "How rude."

He then turned his attention back to the giant bear.

"Hey, big guy! You've got guts, causing trouble in Yanhai City all by yourself. Do you know what will happen to you?" Liu Ying taunted the creature.

Direct confrontation would be suicidal. He had to stall, buying as much time as possible.

The giant bear roared and swiped at Liu Ying with terrifying force, as if it could split mountains and crack rocks.

Liu Ying nimbly retreated, drawing another seal in the air.

"Golden罡 Formation!"

Several golden beams erupted from the ground in front of the giant bear, attempting to trap it. However, the formation shattered in an instant.

"Damn, it's strong," Liu Ying exclaimed, rolling away to narrowly avoid the bear's attack. He could feel the force of the bear's paw even from the wind it generated.

He usually carried his equipment even on vacation. However, his girlfriend had asked him not to carry his peachwood sword, talismans, and the eight trigrams mirror while they were on their date, complaining that they were uncomfortable to cuddle with.

As a devoted boyfriend, he had agreed.

He never imagined he'd be so unlucky as to encounter an evil creature.

Liu Ying bit his finger, smearing the blood across his palm. With a serious expression, he charged towards the giant bear, electricity crackling between his hands.

"Five Thunders Technique!"

At this point, the Five Thunders Technique was his only means of contending with the giant bear, especially without a meat shield.

If a Buddhist master were present, he could use a more time-consuming technique that had a 70% chance of trapping the creature.

But now, without his equipment and in a less-than-ideal state, simply surviving would be a victory.
