Chapter 83: A Sudden Change of Mood

Cafeteria Area

"Is this eagle?"

"Looks like chicken."

Lin Fan and Old Zhang looked at the food in front of them with confusion.

"It seems to have gotten smaller."

"Not seems, it is smaller."

Lin Fan remembered eagles being large, gesturing with his hands to show a considerable size.

Ding Ye said with a smile, "Eat up. The eagle was too big, so I took the liberty of sharing some with others. You're not angry, are you?"

As soon as she said these words, she regretted them. How could she say such a thing? Taking the initiative to share the patients' food with others was a bad practice, and could easily trigger an episode.

"Sharing is caring. I'm happy," Lin Fan said.

"Me too."

Old Zhang stared at the chicken head, which stood out prominently among the other pieces, his mouth watering. It smelled so good, the aroma almost overwhelming.

The two looked at each other, their moods exceptionally good. Being able to help others was a source of joy for them.

Ding Ye had told the kitchen staff to serve chicken soup to all the patients. Someone had recently sponsored the Green Mountain Mental Hospital, and the director had allocated some of the money to purchase food. They had bought many dressed chickens, specifically to nourish the patients.

Lin Fan tore off a chicken leg and placed it in Old Zhang's bowl. "Eat the drumstick."

"You eat too," Old Zhang said.

Lin Fan smiled. "There's another one."

What a heartwarming scene. It warmed the hearts of those who saw it.

"Lin Fan, Old Zhang, your friend is here to see you."

Sun Neng came to the cafeteria and called out. He was filled with envy. Why did mental patients have rich friends, while proper people like them didn't even have a fake rich friend?

Lin Fan and Old Zhang, eating their chicken legs, were surprised to hear that a friend was looking for them.

A friend?

The word felt a little unfamiliar, but they were still curious to know who this friend was.

"Eat quickly, we're going to see our friend."

Lin Fan opened his mouth and swallowed the chicken leg whole, bone and all. Ding Ye's face changed drastically. A chicken bone stuck in the throat could be very troublesome. She wanted to stop Lin Fan, but seeing his expressionless face, she stopped and forced a smile.

Good job.

Old Zhang buried his head and ate quickly.

Sun Neng watched helplessly. The rich friend was going to take them out for a feast, so why bother filling up on chicken soup? It wasn't a wise choice.

Outside

Qian Xiaobao stood with his arms crossed, a lollipop in his mouth. He looked arrogant, almost asking to be punched. But in the face of almighty money, he looked incredibly cool.

Director Hao was eloquently recounting the history of Green Mountain Mental Hospital, occasionally stroking his white hair, the implication clear: Look at me, all this white hair is from caring for the patients. Remember that.

Qian Xiaobao found the old man annoying, just like a teacher at school. He didn't understand a word he was saying.

Sun Neng brought Lin Fan and Old Zhang over.

Qian Xiaobao saw them and waved excitedly. "Lin Fan, Old Zhang, it's me!"

Lin Fan and Old Zhang wondered who it was. Seeing Qian Xiaobao, they immediately brightened. "Xiaobao…"

They remembered this friend, who had invited them to play games and driven them back, promising to visit them again. They hadn't expected him to actually come.

"Are you here to see us?" Lin Fan asked.

Qian Xiaobao said, "Of course I'm here to see you. Who else would I be looking for? Come with me, I'll take you out to have some fun."

"Okay, okay!" Old Zhang clapped his hands happily.

Lin Fan smiled. A good friend coming to see them was the happiest thing. It had always been just him and Old Zhang, but now a friend had come, which meant they had friends too.

Director Hao felt a little melancholic. Young man, you're being very disrespectful. I'm a director, and I've talked to you so much, but you haven't replied. Now two mental patients call for you, and you become a chatterbox. Does this mean I, Hao Ren, am inferior to mental patients?

Qian Xiaobao took Lin Fan and Old Zhang away.

Bodyguards in black suits opened the car doors.

Director Hao watched the luxury cars drive away and sighed.

It's good to be rich.

The senior director said, "Director, you really let them go?"

Director Hao said, "Why refuse such a kind-hearted person? Don't you think this is very loving?"

"Huh? The money is still here."

"I'm not that kind of person. Someone help me take this money to my office. I need to think about how to use it."

In the Office

Director Hao smoked a cigarette, sipped his tea, and stared thoughtfully at the stack of cash on the coffee table. He felt momentarily lost, then picked up the contract and read it over and over again, as if looking at a new girlfriend, his eyes full of love.

"Having money is a sin."

He took out his phone and snapped a few pictures of the cash, then the contract, and typed a message:

[Sigh! Under my leadership, Green Mountain Mental Hospital is flourishing. We've encountered another kind-hearted individual who not only donated five million in cash, but also signed a sponsorship agreement. I've been bad at math since I was a child, and I always miscount large numbers. Can anyone help me see how much the annual sponsorship is?]

A perfect post. He clicked send, and specifically tagged @FreeViceDirectorLaifu.

He tapped the ash off his cigarette with his left hand and scrolled through his phone with his right, feeling content and happy.

Soon, comments appeared.

[Cured Patient Wang Xiaodong: Wow, Director, you're so rich! I have a great project, the 1240 Sunshine Project. Invest 10,000 and earn 100,000, invest 100,000 and earn 1,000,000. Are you interested?]

Director Hao frowned when he saw this comment. He picked up the landline.

"Hello! When was Wang Xiaodong discharged?"

"Discharged a year ago? I don't think he's fully recovered. Send someone to bring him back for further treatment."

He hung up the phone.

Director Hao felt tired.

Green Mountain Mental Hospital was a top-tier mental hospital with the best facilities and equipment. Having an uncured patient running around pretending to be normal was an insult to the hospital.

He skillfully changed the contact name.

Patient Wang Xiaodong.

He continued reading the comments. They were all flattery, nothing interesting. He had long seen through these people in his friend circle.

They were all superficial.

He saw another comment.

[One-Eyed Monster: Robbed a bank?]

Director Hao didn't want to respond to One-Eyed Monster, not even with a perfunctory emoji. He simply ignored him.

Flower Field Hospital

Li Laifu was preoccupied with the director position. Facing reality was better than overthinking.

He spent several hundred yuan inviting Director Li to dinner, trying to get him drunk. He even treated him to a 188 yuan Chinese massage and subtly inquired whether the director position had been filled after his retirement.

Director Li, slightly drunk and feeling that Li Laifu was very attentive, didn't hide anything and told him directly that the director position was reserved for him, and no one else had taken it.

At that moment, Li Laifu felt like he was on a rollercoaster, landing safely and steadily.

He knew Hao Ren had lied to him.

That damn guy.

He scrolled through his friends' circle, ready to taunt Hao Ren.

As he scrolled, he came across Hao Ren's post.

Just as he was about to start typing, he saw the content and froze.

Suddenly, he felt his good mood disappear.
