As Frudi opened the door, Maria's warm smile greeted her.

"Hey, Maria! What's up?" Frudi asked, forcing a brightness she didn't feel.

Maria's eyes narrowed. "Frudi, what's wrong?"

Frudi's mask slipped, revealing tears-stained cheeks.

"Nothing, Maria. Just tired," Frudi said hastily.

Maria's expression turned stern. "Don't lie to me, child. I raised you. I know when something's eating at you."

Frudi's defenses crumbled. Sobbing, she let the tears flow.

Maria enveloped her in a warm hug.

"Shh, it's okay. Let it out," Maria whispered.

Frudi's words tumbled out between sobs.

"I'm just so tired, Maria. Everything's too heavy. I can't...I can't do it anymore. I keep telling myself I have to, but sometimes I just can't."

Maria's gentle hands stroked Frudi's hair.

"I know it's tough, baby. But you're strong. You'll get through this."

Frudi's tears slowed, replaced by sniffling.
