Chapter 39: A New Curse That Nearly Lost Control

On Wednesday night, after teaching the students an astronomy class, Eisen returned to the faculty residence.

As usual, he spent half an hour researching alchemy and ancient runes, followed by another half hour practicing spells and transfiguration. Despite his current level in both enchantment and transfiguration, which had plateaued unless there was a significant breakthrough, he continued practicing daily to keep himself constantly attuned to magic.

In Eisen's view, repeated practice was always beneficial. At the very least, it contributed to the development and mastery of his physical abilities, which had grown to three times the strength of an average person.

Recently, while practicing spells and transfiguration, Eisen had been contemplating a new combat method: combining the flying and levitation spells with transfiguration to create a flying sword as a means of returning to his clan.

However, after some thought, Eisen dismissed the idea as too flashy. He decided it would be more practical to simply turn all swords into a single sharp blade for attacking, and so he abandoned the concept.

But while exploring different combat techniques, Eisen had a sudden flash of inspiration. He considered combining Whirlwind Sweep with transfiguration for combat purposes. Whirlwind Sweep was just a household spell used to conjure a whirlwind to clean up dirt.

However, Eisen had an idea: if he summoned the whirlwind and simultaneously applied transfiguration to it, turning it into continuously rotating wind blades, wouldn't that transform a harmless cleaning spell into a deadly one?

After all, Eisen had fully mastered spells like the Cleansing Charm, and his transfiguration skills were advanced enough to transform individual elements. Combining them to create a new spell should, in theory, be possible.

So, after his usual spell and transfiguration practice, Eisen began experimenting with new spells.

"Whirlwind Strangle—" Eisen incanted, waving his wand. A small tornado appeared on the table, seemingly made of wind blades. In an instant, it shredded the entire table into pieces.

After some research, Eisen had successfully developed a new spell, much to his surprise. He hadn't expected that, at his level, he would be able to create a new spell. The combination of the cleaning spell and transfiguration had gone smoother than expected.

Hiss—

The sound of the wind blades cutting through the air interrupted Eisen's thoughts. As he refocused, he was startled by the scene before him. The wind blade tornado, after destroying the desk, had grown rapidly. In the blink of an eye, it had reached the size of a person, swirling as if it intended to suck in everything in the room. Eisen himself felt a faint pull.

Was this new spell capable of causing continuous damage? Eisen's expression darkened, and he quickly thought of the infamous Fire Calendar Curse, which was said to burn indefinitely unless dispelled.

"Finite Incantatem!" Eisen cast the counter-spell, attempting to stop the wind blade tornado. But to his shock, it had no effect.

Eisen's face fell, and without wasting time, he conjured protective armor around himself and used all his strength to cast a transfiguration spell directly on the wind blade tornado.

Under Eisen's focused gaze, the tornado slowly began to shrink and eventually dissipated within the room. Eisen sighed with relief. It appeared that transfiguration could neutralize the Whirlwind Strangle spell.

"Good thing it worked," Eisen muttered to himself. "If it hadn't, this spell could have caused massive damage to Hogwarts!"

Eisen had a nagging feeling that if he hadn't stopped the spell in time, it might have even destroyed the entire castle.

However, the thought of the uncontrollable nature of the spell gave Eisen a headache. In his mind, perfect mastery of the spell meant being able to stop it at will. But he hadn't anticipated that the combination of transfiguration and Whirlwind Sweep would create an inexplicable, stable balance.

This balance made the wind blade tornado continue running indefinitely. With Eisen's current level of transfiguration, he could only slightly interfere with the balance and disrupt it.

Eisen had a hunch that once his transfiguration skills improved further, he would be able to stop the spell with a simple incantation. Thinking about this, Eisen smiled wryly.

"Reparo," he cast, restoring the room and the shattered table back to its original state.

Leaning back on the bed, Eisen fell silent. What he had initially thought was a simple attack spell had turned into something far more destructive than he had imagined.

At this point, Eisen decided it would be best not to use the Whirlwind Strangle spell again until his transfiguration skills had progressed further. Even then, he'd need to ensure the spell didn't last too long or grow out of control.

When he had interfered with the wind blade tornado using transfiguration earlier, it had taken all his strength to affect it even slightly. If the tornado grew to a height of more than ten meters—or even larger—Eisen doubted he could stop it.

If the wind blade tornado lost control, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Perhaps, over time, as Eisen's magical power increased, he'd be able to control it better. But until his transfiguration skills improved, the spell would always carry a risk of getting out of hand.

Eisen also pondered why the counter-spell had been ineffective earlier. Normally, the counter-spell should work on all spells except the three Unforgivable Curses.

However, Eisen knew that some special or particularly complex spells required specific counter-spells.

"Could the combination of Whirlwind Sweep and transfiguration have created a special or complex spell?" Eisen muttered to himself.

"Regardless, next time I experiment with a new spell, I need to be more prepared." Reflecting on it, Eisen realized that testing new spells in his dormitory had been rash.

Thinking back on the incident, he felt a faint cold sweat break out. If things had spiraled out of control, imprisonment in Azkaban might have been the best-case scenario.

It was then that Eisen remembered Luna's mother from the original book. She had died due to a failed spell experiment. The wizarding world had its share of tragic lessons.

After calming his thoughts, Eisen glanced at the clock. It was nearing midnight. Just as he was about to sleep, something crossed his mind, and he took out the observation mirror.

He had assumed that Hermione, Harry, and the others would already be asleep, but to his surprise, he saw several figures moving sneakily in the Gryffindor common room.

"Strange, class is over. Why haven't they gone to bed?" Eisen mused, a curious expression on his face. Could they be planning something?

I hope your like the chapter 😊
