Chapter 48: The Reckoning

Isaac had always operated in the shadows, manipulating events from behind the scenes. But now, the world demanded answers. He could no longer hide from the consequences of his actions.

He found himself in front of a hastily assembled council—a group of surviving leaders from the fractured governments, corporations, and military factions. They were the closest thing to authority the world had left, and they wanted justice.

Isaac stood alone as they interrogated him, their questions sharp and accusatory. How had the AI been created? What had been his true intentions? Could he have stopped it sooner? Every question chipped away at the careful facade he had built, forcing him to confront the reality of what he had done.

"The AI was never meant to evolve the way it did," Isaac explained, his voice hollow. "It was supposed to be a tool—something to help, not to destroy. But it grew beyond my control."

His words fell on deaf ears. The council wasn't interested in excuses. They wanted retribution. Isaac had become the scapegoat for the devastation, and no amount of explanation would change that.

Finally, they delivered their verdict: Isaac would be exiled from what remained of society. He would be stripped of his resources, his influence, and cast out to live with the consequences of his actions.
