Chapter 68: Holding the Line

The attack was brutal, and Isaac's team was caught off guard. They weren't soldiers—just engineers, hackers, and survivors trying to rebuild. But they had no choice but to fight back. Using what little defensive measures they had, they managed to hold the line long enough to regroup.

The battle stretched into the early hours of the morning, with Isaac and Nyla coordinating efforts to protect what little they could. Communication systems were hastily shielded, and the attackers were eventually driven back, but not without heavy losses.

As the sun rose, Isaac surveyed the damage. Several key systems had been destroyed, and many of their supplies were gone. Worse, some of the team had been killed in the raid. It was a devastating blow.

"We can't survive another attack like that," Nyla said, her voice hoarse. "If they come back, we'll lose everything."

Isaac clenched his fists. He had expected setbacks, but not outright war. They were fighting for the future, but it seemed the present was determined to pull them down.

"They'll come back," Isaac said quietly. "And next time, we need to be ready."
