Chapter 272: A Good Deed Without Seeking Recognition

"Mother?"

Yukinoshita Yukino was stunned for a long moment before finally coming back to her senses.

"Yukino, I'm so glad you're okay!" Her mother hugged her tightly, her trembling voice carrying a hint of tears.

"Mother…"

Hearing her mother's choked-up voice, the little girl couldn't hold back her own emotions anymore. Tears streamed down her cheeks like a broken dam, soaking her mother's shoulder.

"We truly can't thank you enough for bringing our daughter back," Yukinoshita's father said, his eyes red, though he fought to keep his tears from falling.

Hayashizaki noticed Yukinoshita Haruno, standing behind her father, give him a quick wink.

The man seemed about to say something, but Hayashizaki interrupted him, "Whatever needs to be discussed, let's do it after we leave the airport. This isn't the place for a conversation."

"Yes, yes!" Yukinoshita's father nodded repeatedly.

Hayashizaki followed the reunited Yukinoshita family, jogging to catch up with the larger crowd being evacuated. However, they soon found themselves stuck.

The reason? A man, also strapped with explosives, stood in their path.

Now what? Yukinoshita Haruno asked.

I've already dealt with the others. This is the last one. Hayashizaki smirked. Too many people around—makes it hard to make a move.

That guy's probably waiting for his allies to surround us, but they're not coming.

As he pondered how to eliminate the terrorist in front of so many onlookers, he realized it wouldn't be easy—but it wasn't impossible either.

Fine, let's go with something direct.

Direct?

Before Yukinoshita Haruno could process what he meant, an earth-shaking explosion suddenly roared behind them.

The deafening noise sent a shock through everyone, making them instinctively turn around.

And what they saw… was the sky literally collapsing.

A formless slash had struck the steel framework of the airport's dome, slicing through it layer by layer. The metal beams groaned loudly before breaking apart, one after another, crashing down onto the ground. The impact sent tremors through the earth, raising thick clouds of dust.

Most people lost their balance and fell from the sudden quake. Only a few managed to stay upright by grabbing onto something nearby.

A gaping hole had been cut into the dome, revealing the vast blue sky above. The people in the terminal suddenly felt like frogs at the bottom of a well, staring up at a world beyond their reach.

"Wait—what happened to the terrorist with the bomb?!"

At first, everyone assumed the collapse of the dome was caused by a terrorist attack. But then someone realized that the impact from the falling steel should have triggered the explosives strapped to the man's chest.

Yet, the explosion never came.

Everyone quickly turned back to look—only to find that the man who had been blocking their escape route had mysteriously disappeared.

The crowd had been too distracted by the collapsing ceiling. Even Yukinoshita Haruno, who had known Hayashizaki was about to act, hadn't seen how he made the bomb-wielding terrorist vanish.

At this moment, she finally understood what "brutal" truly meant. Looking at the arrival area, now in ruins like a disaster zone after an earthquake, she muttered belatedly, "Yeah... that was definitely brutal..."

But it worked, didn't it? Hayashizaki's lips curved into a slight smile.

With the crisis resolved, the airport staff quickly reorganized and resumed the evacuation of passengers.

This time, nothing unexpected happened, and the evacuation was completed smoothly.

Outside the airport, as several police cars rushed to the scene and officers got out to set up a blockade, Yukinoshita's father finally let out a deep sigh of relief.

A terrorist attack at the airport—he never would have imagined it.

Thankfully, his family was unharmed, and they had all made it out safely.

All thanks to that young man...

Wait—where was he?

Yukinoshita's father was about to thank the black-haired young man who had helped them find Yukino, only to realize that at some point, he had disappeared.

"Don't bother looking, he left a while ago," Yukinoshita Haruno said with a chuckle.

"When did he leave?" The middle-aged man froze. "Wasn't he just with us when we came out of the emergency exit?"

"He left right after we got out. Said he was going to find his friend," the short-haired girl shrugged.

"I see..." Yukinoshita's father said with a hint of regret. "I wanted to thank him properly. If it weren't for him bringing Yukino back, who knows what could have happened to her? And now we don't even know his name."

"It's rare these days to find someone who does good deeds without leaving a name..."

Before he could finish, a little black-haired girl, holding her mother's hand, interrupted:

"That big brother's name is Lin-kun."

"Lin-kun?" The middle-aged man repeated, deep in thought.

"His full name is Hayashizaki," Yukinoshita Haruno helpfully added.

The man's face froze in shock.

"Huh???"

So he didn't exactly leave without a name—he just only told it to his two daughters?

Something about this felt... off. But for now, gratitude overshadowed any doubts.

Yukinoshita's father nodded. "So, Hayashizaki-kun. He's a good man. If we meet him again, we'll have to thank him properly."

He crouched down, placing his hands gently on his younger daughter's shoulders.

"Especially you, Yukino. He's your lifesaver, you know."

Yukinoshita Yukino nodded seriously.

She had a feeling—this wouldn't be the last time they met.

…

After parting ways with the Yukinoshita family, Hayashizaki returned to the ruined airport.

While the firefighters were still outside ensuring safety, he made his way to where he had left the unconscious woman—the bomber.

The timed explosive was still strapped to her chest, beeping softly at one-second intervals. The metal ring connected to the detonator was still clutched in her hand, but her arm had been carefully placed in a position where it wouldn't trigger the bomb.

He had no intention of waking her up.

Instead, he reached out and pried open her tightly shut eyelid with his fingers.

Seeing the unfocused pupils, Hayashizaki immediately understood.

"As expected... there are traces of a spell."
