Zayd was waiting for her when she arrived at the café later that afternoon. He didn't stand when she walked in; he just sat there, his gaze fixed on her. His face was unreadable, but Noor could sense the tension in his shoulders, the uncertainty in his posture.
She took the seat across from him, and for a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence stretched on, thick and heavy, but Noor didn't mind. She needed this moment. She needed to gather the strength to face whatever came next.
Finally, Zayd broke the silence, his voice low. "You came back," he said, almost as if he was surprised.
Noor nodded, meeting his gaze. "I need to know what comes next. I can't keep living in this confusion. I need answers."
Zayd looked away, as though the truth was something too painful for him to reveal. "I can't promise you a normal life, Noor. You've seen the surface of it, but you haven't seen the depths. My family's business is dangerous. There are people who will stop at nothing to destroy us, to destroy me. And by extension, you." He looked back at her then, his expression desperate. "I don't want you involved in this. I never did. But I can't keep running from the truth. And I can't lose you."
Noor's heart ached at the rawness of his words. She could feel the sincerity in his voice, but it was like a double-edged sword. How could she trust someone who had kept so many secrets from her?
"I don't want to lose you either," Noor said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I can't keep living in the dark, Zayd. I can't keep pretending everything is fine when I know it's not."
Zayd stood up then, moving around the table to stand in front of her. He knelt down, his eyes intense as he took her hands in his. "I've made mistakes, Noor. But I'll do whatever it takes to protect you. I'll fight for you, for us. I'm asking you to trust me, one last time."
Noor looked down at their hands, feeling the warmth of his touch. For a moment, everything else faded away—the danger, the lies, the uncertainty. All that remained was the connection they shared, fragile but undeniable.
But trust, Noor realized, wasn't something that could be given easily. It had to be earned. And she wasn't sure if Zayd could earn it, not after everything.
"I don't know if I can," she said, her voice trembling. "I don't know if I can trust you again, after all of this."

The room felt colder as Zayd slowly let go of her hands, his face showing the weight of her words. He had fought so hard for her love, but now he was faced with the reality that he might lose her forever. The world they were in—so full of danger, lies, and betrayal—was slowly pulling them apart.
