MAXIMUM PART 1

Here's a corrected version of your chapter, focusing on grammar, clarity, and flow:

Chapter Start

The little man's remains lay splattered across the white floor.

It had killed him. Slamming its gigantic fist onto him, it left him as nothing more than blood, gore, and bone.

The being they called Maximum.

But it wasn't satisfied. Killing the little man only made it hungrier. Hungrier for violence. Hungrier for murder. It had no idea where this hunger came from, or why it felt it in the first place. All it knew was that once it was released from the dark room, the hunger was all it felt.

In the dark room, it felt peace, quiet, joy. But now, in this white hallway, it felt the opposite, combined with a deep, piercing sensation of hunger.

Then, the visions came. Quicker than bolts of lightning, but clear enough for it to partially perceive them as they played out in its mutated brain, leaving a reverberating effect that gave it a horrible headache.

A headache painful enough to rival its hunger.

The first vision was of a shirtless man. He was lean and had bags under his eyes. A man it didn't know, but who seemed so familiar. He was chained to an operating table, undergoing surgery from a larger man, if he could still be called that. He was twice the size of a normal human, wearing nothing but a dirty apron and jeans. He also wore a four-eyed mask. It watched as the four-eyed man grabbed a syringe from his operating table and stabbed himself with it, drawing a green fluid from his left arm.

Then, he injected it into his patient.

His victim.

The next vision was of the victim escaping this four-eyed doctor. Running and running across a dirty sewer. Sewage and feces covered his body, but he didn't care. He was still running, hoping he wouldn't be caught by the four-eyed man.

Not far behind was a stranger wearing pitch-black robes.

Another vision appeared just as quickly as the second. This time, the victim was surrounded by people in pitch-black robes. All of them were chanting in a strange yet soothing language. The victim held a cup filled with a black liquid, which he drank wholeheartedly.

He did all this so they would protect him from the four-eyed man. His body began to writhe in agony, spasming and swinging his limbs all over the dark hall they were in. The robed figures watched his movements with blank, expressionless faces.

It felt a sense of déjà vu.

The next vision was of the man being sent on a mission of some sort, being given another chalice of black liquid and tasked to locate someone worthy. From the look on his face, he seemed to know who his target was.

And then, the last vision came. The man had failed his mission. He escaped judgment from the black robes and was on the run. The four-eyed man watched him from afar, laughing maniacally at his soon-to-be victim. All the man felt was fear and sorrow.

It felt the same fear.

And now, it was hungry again.

It moved on, away from the visions and its fear of them. All it had was hunger and the need to satiate it.

Luckily, it could feel life nearby.

Food.

Zack, Paulina, and Stacya ran through the white corridor they found themselves in, past the prisons that held Mr. E's army of beasts.

"Where do you think he went?" Stacya said as she ran through the corridor, since she couldn't swim.

"Dunno, but we'll need to find him before Mr. E realizes we escaped."

"Paulina, I remember you had a tracker or something inbuilt. How about you..."

"Stacya! At least give her time to practice her abilities before..."

"No, Zack, she's right. If I'm going to start using my implants, I need to start now," Paulina said before placing her hand on her left ear, resulting in her left eye turning a shining pink. The eye looked in all directions, scanning the entire base for lifeforms, but saw nothing.

Until...

"I... I see something," she said, a cold sweat running down her cheek.

"What is it?" Zack asked, noticing her sudden shivering.

"It's gone! I saw something below us, and it's gone!" she screamed.

"What's gone? Did you find him?" Stacya asked, getting into a battle stance.

"No... he wasn't this... big. My sensors, it's been so long, they're sending me messages all at once. All I see is DANGER!" she shouted as Zack got close enough to hold her tight.

"Whatever it is, we can handle it. But let's stay close and cover each other's blind spots," Zack said, trying to reassure his shivering girlfriend.

"N... no, my body, it's telling me to retreat! As I recall, it never told me to do that. Not even during the fight with Ace! Whatever this is... Oh God!" she screamed once again.

"Paulina, what's wrong?" Zack shouted, right before he heard a bloodcurdling scream from behind him.

It was Stacya. Something had grabbed her, and from the look of its arm alone, it was a grotesque combination of flesh, bone, and pure darkness that Zack had never seen before. It was like Jake's shadow form, but much more disgusting. Like an insult.

Stacya tried to resist as the arm grabbed her by the waist and started squeezing her slowly, clearly relishing every minute of it, as its body was still sunken beneath the floor of the corridor, like some sick imitation of Stacya's ability to swim on land.

Zack let go of Paulina and expanded to three times his original size, pouncing on the monster's arm and ripping Stacya out of its torturous grip. Enraged, the creature revealed itself, emerging from the ground and horrifying the trio.

There it was, a monster of meat and bone, bonded together by Shadow energy and emanating an aura of pure malice and savagery. Zack stood before the creature, still twice his size despite being able to grow to three times his usual size, with nothing to do or say due to how terrified he was.

The creature opened its large hand and raised it for a killing blow, while Stacya tried to get up, but her injured back wouldn't allow her to do it in time. Luckily, she noticed Paulina doing something behind her and realized what she needed to do.

Suddenly, Zack heard an unexpected command.

"Zack, get down!"

Zack turned around only to see Stacya pouncing not at the beast, but at him instead.

Pushing him to the side, she let out an order, shouting "NOW!" quickly followed by the creature, too distracted by Zack and Stacya, to notice the radiant pink ball of heat and death flying at lightning speed towards it.

The creature exploded in a black and red mess, with blood, gore, and darkness splattering everywhere. The creature's lower half still stood in place and flinched slightly at every passing second.

"Are you... you guys okay?" Paulina said, withdrawing her plasma cannons with visible difficulty.

"Yeah. We're fine, Paulina. Thank you for the save back there," Stacya said as she wiped some sweat from her brow and noticed Zack shivering right next to her.

"Zack? What about you?"

Zack was silent for what seemed like an eternity, staring at the white floor with unblinking eyes. Tears formed soon after.

"I... I froze. It was in front of me, and I..." Zack mumbled, low enough that Stacya knew he was talking to himself, but she still addressed it nonetheless.

"Don't worry, Zack. It's dead. We won. You don't have to... how do you people say it? Beat yourself up over it. It is fine."

"Fine? Fine?! A monster was about to kill me, and I stood still and did nothing about it! And you say it's fine?!"

"Zack! Stacya was just trying to calm you down. There was no need to shout."

"I... I'm sorry, Paulina. I lost control there. I just hate myself for being such a coward. That monster was going to kill me. It was going to kill us all, and all I did was freeze up. How can I be a hero when I keep freezing up at any serious threat that comes my way?"

"It doesn't matter. We won, and that's it. Besides, you're still a hero to me. You are my Expanding Man, after all."

"Y... you used my hero name... the lame one," Zack said, with a small tear dripping down his smiling face.

"Of course. I love it. Just as much as I love you. Maybe a little more, even," she said with a chuckle. The two soon embraced each other with a small kiss.

Stacya watched the two with a slight smile on her grey face. Although she didn't understand human displays of affection like the sharing of saliva, she understood they showed love. She was happy for them for having each other like this. If only she hadn't lost him.

Suddenly, she noticed something and immediately broke the two apart.

"Stacya? What's wrong?" Zack asked, slightly annoyed but even more afraid when he realized why Stacya did what she did.

The creature's pieces started to reassemble and come together, reforming the beast they thought was dead.

Zack watched with a gaping jaw at the sight of a creature destroyed by Paulina's plasma cannons only to regenerate as if nothing had happened. Paulina watched the creature and turned back to Zack, noticing he was shivering again.

Stacya pounced at the creature and attempted to destroy it before its head reformed.

Only for its face to appear on its chest and laugh at her. It wrapped her face with its now fully developed left arm and slammed her into the white floor with enough force to crack it.

"N... no!" Paulina shouted and let go of Zack, who was still shivering, and attempted to form her plasma blade from her right wrist, since the cannon might disintegrate Stacya in the crossfire.

She formed the blade with some difficulty and quickly sliced the creature's arm off with ease, freeing Stacya. Just when she went for its head, it straightened its wrist and slashed across her chest with insane speed, cutting through not only her shirt, but her skin, revealing blue blood and machinery spilling onto the white floor.

"PAULINA!!!" Zack screamed in horror at what he had allowed to happen due to his own cowardice.

Its arm ran back and reattached itself in a fraction of a second and grabbed Paulina by the face soon after. It raised her above its newly developed head and attempted to slam her to the ground, but Paulina put up a fight with her plasma blade, cutting off the creature's arm multiple times, only for a new one to replace it.

Having had enough of that, it grabbed her armed wrist and began pulling it from her body with much difficulty, grunting and smiling from ear to ear at Paulina's screams.

Meanwhile, Zack just stood there, too scared to move. Stacya was unconscious, and the love of his life was getting her arm ripped off in front of him.

He tried to move, but he couldn't.

He won't.

That's when a horrible thought invaded his mind.

Run.

Was this what he wanted? To let her die so he could get away? One of the few people who actually cared about him and the only one who truly loved him? He was going to abandon her for his own selfish survival?

Was that the hero he wanted to be?

"Z... Zack... ah..." Paulina muttered in pain as the creature ripped her arm clean off and dropped her to the ground like trash, a horrible bellow of laughter following soon after.

Once Zack heard this, watched as she lost her arm and was discarded like a child's plaything, he snapped.
