GETTING LOST

ISABELLA

I had been searching for what felt like an eternity around my mysterious husband's room, but it all went fruitless. As the hours ticked by, I grew more and more restless.

My eyes scanned the room, searching for any clue that might reveal more about him.

Then my gaze landed on the cabinet, and I strode over to it, my heart racing with anticipation.

As I pulled out the drawer, a document caught my eye. A triumphant smile spread across my face. "Why hadn't I checked here in the first place?" I muttered to myself.

I carefully placed the document on the table, my eyes scanning the contents. But before I could make sense of it, the door swung open, and Lorenzo stood before me.

My heart skipped a beat as I swallowed hard. I should have locked the door from the inside.

His piercing gaze locked onto mine, his eyes narrowing. "What are you doing there?" he asked, his voice low and menacing.

I didn't move from my position, my eyes still fixed on his as he took a long stride toward me.

"Thinking of something," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant despite the fear that was growing inside me.

His eyes flashed with anger. "Checking what's in the file?" he asked.

I nodded, knowing I had no choice but to tell the truth. "I am your wife," I said, trying to sound confident.

"Are you doing something illegal that you don't want me to know about?"

His face went mute for a few seconds before he snatched the document from my grip.

"If you want to continue being in my room, be careful with the crazy shit you do here," he warned, his eyes glinting with a mixture of anger and amusement. "I don't play games in my room."

I smirked at this, realizing that he was hiding something important. I made a mental note to get my hands on that document again.

"Where were you last night?" I asked, trying to sound casual despite the growing curiosity inside me.

"Busy," he answered walking past me as he placed the document back in the drawer, then locked it.

"The heck…" I mumbled and he looked up at me.

He had the look of 'what' and I just strutted closer to him, my hand wrapping around him.

"Aren't you going to the firm today?" he asked and I squinted my gaze, "We should have some time to ourselves…" my words were left hanging as he pushed me back squinting his gaze.

"Time? You mean honeymoon," I swallowed hard at this, "Wh… what.."

"I am busy," he stated firmly again.

I felt that neglecting the feeling immediately hearing that word again, my mind reeled back to when I was with Emilio. It had begun this way.

I recalled Marcello's words, "You only got married to him because of your goal." I sighed and let go of him.

If I need to also get the plan done I also need to act this way, "Alright." I answered and decided to go have my bath but there was no dress for me to put on.

I was about to flare out at him when he pulled me back roughly, "I didn't want to speak to you that way but you pissed me off Solo Mia," I rolled my eyes at that.

"You don't have to cut me off with that word you are busy, I.. " I blew out a rasp of air.

I am not supposed to be this way, I am beginning to go back to my clingy ways with Emilio. I wouldn't want that to happen again.

"Mia…" he whispered about touching me and that was the exact time a knock came from the door.

"Someone is outside," I let out and walked into the bathroom to go have my bath.

An hour later I am finally done, "I need some dress." I thought, and texted Camilla.

I knew she would be busy and I am also not starting my new position till Monday so I can as well use my free time here also trying to get any little suspicions I want to get my hands on.

"Baby girl… are you less busy?" I sent as I strutted downstairs. I didn't miss the weird look I was getting from the mysterious guards around the house.

"Bella," I heard Lucio call my name and I didn't know when a smile appeared on my face.

"Good morning." again admiring my dress he smirks. "Uncle sure likes you for him to allow you to have enough access to his outfit,"

I rolled my eyes, "I am hungry," I stated instead, trying to change the subject.

He smiled, recalling the previous night's events. "How was my cooking last night?" he asked, and I gave him a thumbs up.

I couldn't help but think about the mouth-watering food I had eaten the night before.

When it comes to cooking, I am a disaster, but one thing I am good at is eating a lot.

"I want another one!" I leaped happily, my eyes sparkling with excitement.

He chuckled, leading me to the dining room. "Of course, you can have any dish you want, but today," he began, "We have a special Italian menu."

Lucio stood proudly beside the dining table.

"Today, we have prepared spaghetti Bolognese, chicken parmesan, and bruschetta," he explained, his Italian accent thick and rich.

My eyes widened, impressed by the selection. "Wow, that sounds delicious," I exclaimed.

I rubbed my hands together, eager to dig in. "Let's eat!" I exclaimed, my stomach growling with anticipation.

"Of course.." he helped me serve them as I dug quickly into them "Enjoying it?" he asked and I nodded my head expressing my satisfaction.

I was still enjoying my food when his sudden question came in. "You don't share the same love interest with my uncle do you?" I choked on my food so fast that he quickly handed me a cup to drink my water.

"Wha… what are you saying?" he smirked.

"Uncle wasn't home last night which was supposed to be your wedding night, he is also not here now." he pointed to the chair he was supposed to be sitting in.

I glanced at him when an idea clicked, he would be a loose mouth. "Now you tell me when your uncle went?"

He fluttered his eyes and shut them knowing he had just had a slip of the tongue.

"Common, I am his wife, he wouldn't hide anything from me, he just hasn't gotten the time to chat with him." he squinted his gaze like he was trying to see my sincerity.

"You shouldn't then, I would ask him myself.." he breathed out in relief.

"Fine, I will tell you."

My eyes lit up immediately seeing my plan working, as I clicked on my record button stylishly.

"The Underground was in a mess because of his wedding with you so he went to settle it." my interest piqued immediately.

"Underground?" I asked confused, I knew he was kind of suspicious but underground, doesn't that have to deal with mafias?

"Yeah… Uncle is a…" his word was cut off by someone stuffing a steak into his mouth shutting him up.

I looked up to see it was Lorenzo.

"Uncle.."

"Get lost!" he warned again, I stood from my chair but he pulled my back instantly roughly pinning me to the table.

"Move one more inch and I wouldn't hesitate to fuck you right here."
