Chapter 143: Draining the Lake to Catch Fish

A quarter of an hour later.

The two shadow clones practicing Rasengan couldn't hold on any longer and dissolved into a swirl of chakra, carrying their accumulated experience and memories back to the original body.

As he was still immersed in his training of the Reflection of the Mind Technique, Qingming frowned slightly before splitting a bit of his focus to absorb the incoming experience and memories.

After a brief moment, he opened his eyes and glanced at his status panel. His proficiency in Rasengan had increased by 30 points.

For comparison, if Qingming himself had been doing the training directly, he would've gained around 45 points. This meant the efficiency of shadow clones was about two-thirds that of the main body.

And this was just short-term efficiency. If they kept training for a longer time without resetting the clones, their efficiency would drop further, eventually hitting a bottleneck where it would drop to zero.

However, Qingming would not let that happen.

After a quick glance at the two clones still practicing the Genjutsu: Sharingan, he decided to dismiss them.

Immediately, two streams of experience and memories returned. Qingming took his time to merge them into his consciousness.

When he checked the status panel again, his proficiency in Genjutsu: Sharingan had increased by 50 points. The efficiency was roughly the same, about two-thirds of what his own efforts would yield.

Qingming nodded in satisfaction, then moved to a nearby Iwagakure ninja and used Chakra Absorption Technique to replenish his chakra.

After that, he summoned four new shadow clones and began a fresh round of training.

And so, every fifteen minutes or so, Qingming would reset the state of his shadow clones and top off his chakra. This cycle continued.

Soon, an hour and a half had passed.

After once again integrating the training experiences of two clones working on Rasengan, Qingming's proficiency with the technique finally reached level 1 (197/200)!

Anticipating a bottleneck, he paused his Reflection of the Mind Technique training and had the original body practice Rasengan three times.

As expected, after a few tries, his proficiency with Rasengan smoothly advanced to level 2.

With that, Qingming's understanding of Rasengan took a significant leap.

When he now performed the technique, the speed of execution and the concentration of the chakra sphere were both far superior to before.

However, achieving the next step—merging wind chakra into the technique to develop the S-Rank Wind Release: Rasenshuriken—was still a long way off.

But Qingming wasn't in a hurry.

He still hadn't fully mastered the form and nature transformation of wind chakra. Even if his Rasengan proficiency increased now, it would be difficult to complete the fusion of wind release chakra.

So...

"I'll take it step by step!" Qingming muttered to himself.

He cleared his mind and summoned four new shadow clones, continuing the earlier training.

Time passed slowly, minute by minute.

Soon, more than another hour had slipped by.

With only moments left before the three-hour limit, Qingming had finally completed his intended goal.

Out of the total 200,000 chakra points available, he had spent 28,000 points on training the Reflection of the Mind Technique, gaining 180 proficiency points.

He had allocated 150,000 chakra points to training Rasengan and Genjutsu: Sharingan, increasing their proficiencies by 360 and 600 points, respectively.

The remaining 20,000 chakra points were lost due to the frequent use of the Shadow Clone Technique.

To be honest, seeing this level of loss made Qingming feel a pang of regret, but there was no helping it. He had been pressed for time and had no other choice.

Standing up, Qingming glanced at the bodies of the fallen Iwa-nin around him. He formed a hand seal and performed the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.

Boom!

Bright red flames spread, quickly engulfing all the bodies.

The acrid smell of burning flesh filled the air, causing Qingming to wrinkle his nose. He took a few steps back. Once the bodies had been completely incinerated, he left the area.

Not long after he had gone, a group of about ten Iwa-nin, escorting two medical-nin, arrived on the scene.

Clearly, these were the ninjas assigned to pick up the injured soldiers.

But what awaited them were only charred remains.

Immediately, the expressions of the Iwa-nin darkened.

Some cautiously scanned the surroundings, others contacted their superiors to report the incident, while a few began searching for traces of the enemy.

All in all, they were very busy.

By the time they uncovered any clues, Qingming had already targeted his next prey.

It was a four-man squad, hurrying along as if on an urgent mission, though it was unclear where they were headed.

Qingming carefully tailed them for a while. Once he confirmed there were no others nearby and that all four were just Chunin, he struck decisively.

It didn't take much effort before all four were subdued.

Qingming immediately used Genjutsu: Sharingan on the leader, extracting information about their mission.

He quickly learned that their mission was to deliver some sort of intel.

As for the content of the intel...

Qingming peeled open the leader's clothing and found a scroll tucked inside. However, upon seeing the sealing tag affixed to it, he decided against opening it.

For such sensitive information, the scrolls were usually protected by a specific seal, which would cause the scroll to self-destruct if opened improperly.

It was clear these four foot soldiers wouldn't know the proper release method.

So Qingming didn't waste time on it.

He surveyed the surroundings and performed the Shadow Clone Technique, summoning one clone. Together, they split into pairs and carried the four captured Iwa-nin to a secluded spot.

Once there, Qingming ordered the shadow clone to stand guard while he prepared for another round of chakra extraction.

Based on his previous experience, draining these four Chunin would yield about 30,000 chakra points.

This time, without the rush, he could allocate all that chakra to training his Reflection of the Mind Technique, which would net him another 180 proficiency points.

Ideally, Qingming would've preferred to set up in a safe location, as he had done previously, and have his shadow clones capture prisoners while he steadily drained their chakra.

This approach would maximize the value of his captives and waste little time.

However, with the current unpredictable situation, staying in one place was simply too dangerous. For now, he had no choice but to abandon that method.

Fortunately, with over ten thousand Iwa-nin deployed to encircle the Third Raikage and his elite squad, even with all their discipline, some degree of chaos was inevitable.

As a result, it was easy for Qingming to find more targets to ambush without wasting too much time.

Shaking his head to clear away those distracting thoughts, Qingming refocused and began to carefully observe the effects of his Reflection of the Mind Technique once again.
