Chapter 292: A Sudden Turn of Events

After examining his body and confirming no serious injuries, Qingming finally had time to observe Zabuza Momochi. In contrast to Qingming, Zabuza was in a far more pitiful state.

Although the Executioner's Blade blocked the initial impact of the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, he bore the brunt of the follow-up damage. Unlike Qingming, Zabuza wasn't aware of the true danger of the Rasenshuriken—the persistent damage after the initial contact. His escape had been a fraction too late, leading to his body being enveloped by a mass of chakra needles formed by the energy blast.

Though he managed to break free quickly, even that short exposure allowed the chakra needles to cause severe injuries. And on top of the internal damage, he also had numerous Executioner's Blade fragments lodged in his body—more so than Qingming.

With Zabuza so weakened, Qingming had no intention of showing mercy. In fact, he was ready to strike the proverbial "fallen warrior."

With a swift motion, Qingming retrieved several shurikens and flung them at Zabuza. However, the seasoned fighter, despite his injuries, remained on guard. The moment Qingming attacked, Zabuza sidestepped, dodging the assault.

But this was only the beginning.

Almost simultaneously, one of Qingming's shadow clones charged forward, closing in on Zabuza.

As for Qingming himself, although his injuries weren't serious, he was on a battlefield. To avoid being caught off guard by any "opportunistic attacks," he decided to heal his wounds and replenish his chakra.

After expending so much chakra on shadow clones and Rasenshurikens, along with prolonged combat, his reserves were dangerously low and needed quick replenishment.

With that in mind, Qingming quickly pulled out the blade fragments embedded in his body. Through the Sharingan, he could see his wounds slowly healing, a result of his 15 points in physique.

"Still not enough," he thought.

He performed a hand seal, activating his modified Mystical Palm Technique, channeling several doses of Yang Release chakra directly into his wounds, which started healing almost immediately.

Satisfied, Qingming used the Body Flicker Technique several times, quickly reaching the outskirts of the battle where his shadow clones were engaging Mist-nin.

Many of these Mist-nin were replacements, as his clones had already eliminated several of the original forces. Most of these reinforcements were Mist Chunin, which helped reduce the pressure on Konoha's Chunin even further.

And now… these new arrivals were perfect for replenishing Qingming's chakra, serving as "batteries."

With a blur, Qingming appeared behind an unsuspecting Mist Chunin.

"Ah!"

The Mist-nin jumped, shocked to see Qingming. Instinctively, he slashed with a kunai, aiming at Qingming's throat.

"Huh?"

The Mist-nin paused in disbelief, stunned that he'd supposedly killed Qingming. Then, he realized his strike hadn't actually connected—he was trapped in an illusion. Qingming was standing in front of him, entirely unharmed.

"Genjutsu?!"

Realizing he'd been deceived, the Mist-nin prepared to strike again. But this time, he couldn't even lift his arm. It felt like his chakra had been entirely drained.

Not just his chakra—his physical and spiritual energy felt completely depleted. His breathing became labored, and he looked down to see Qingming's hand gripping his throat, siphoning the very life out of him.

"No…!"

Struggling to break free, he found himself completely helpless. Within seconds, his chakra was fully drained, and he died, his life force utterly exhausted.

The whole encounter lasted less than ten seconds.

Releasing the corpse, Qingming sensed the rush of nearly ten thousand chakra points flowing into his body, giving him a sense of relief. With his reserves now topped up, he was ready to fight once more.

Crackle!

Suddenly, a deafening thunderclap sounded.

A familiar scream echoed through the battlefield.

"Don't tell me…" Qingming thought, immediately turning toward the source of the sound.

In the distance, he saw their squad captain, struck by a thick bolt of lightning conjured by Kurosuki Raiga. The captain lay on the ground, charred and lifeless. Raiga looked up, his gaze falling on Qingming.

"Am I cursed with bad luck?" Qingming muttered. He had just thought he'd be ready for a new fight, and now, one had found him, leaving him with no choice but to engage.

Not only had Kurosuki Raiga shown up, but Zabuza was also fighting fiercely, dispatching one of Qingming's shadow clones in a vicious, reckless exchange.

Both opponents now turned their sights on him.

The battlefield seemed to freeze, leaving only the three of them staring each other down.

Drip…

A single drop of blood fell from one of Qingming's wounds to the ground, like the ticking of a clock marking the resumption of time.

The sounds of battle surged back—screams, the clash of kunai, the booming of explosive tags—all flooding into the ears of those present.

Boom!

A thick bolt of lightning shot toward him.

Without hesitation, Qingming used the Body Flicker Technique, dodging just in time.

The lightning struck the ground, leaving a large scorched crater. Qingming's face tensed, and he sidestepped another attack, narrowly avoiding Zabuza's Executioner's Blade.

Somehow, in that short span of time, Zabuza's weapon had already been restored.

Indeed, despite its fragility, the Executioner's Blade's regenerative properties were unmatched. As long as blood was present, it could quickly return to its full form.

Blood, of course, was abundant on this battlefield. Zabuza had just plunged the remaining hilt into the corpse of a fallen Konoha Chunin, restoring the blade to its original form.

The Executioner's Blade, known as the sword that never breaks, certainly lived up to its reputation.
