"How is this possible?! Its level is actually this high? A seal?"
Looking at the Haunter before him, now radiating terrifying waves of energy, Sato swallowed hard, his face filled with disbelief.
Using his system's detection function, Sato checked Haunter's details again. Most of its information remained unchanged, but one particular change was enough to make him feel immense pressure—no, it was enough to make his heart pound with fear.
Haunter's Current Information:
Pokémon: Haunter
Level: 40 (Seal Released: 48%)
Type: Ghost/Poison
Ability: Levitate
Gender: Male
Held Item: Spell Tag
Previously, Haunter's level had clearly been 28, but now it had suddenly surged to 40, with an additional note stating, "Seal Released: 48%."
However, Sato had a strong psychological tolerance, and he quickly regained his composure.
His mind raced, and soon he arrived at a reasonable conclusion based on his understanding of Spirit Masters and Ghost-type Pokémon.
If he wasn't mistaken, this Haunter's true level was terrifyingly high, and it was likely that Ayako was not its first trainer.
Ghost-type Pokémon have incredibly long lifespans. To them, humans are merely fleeting moments in their existence. This Haunter's true strength was undoubtedly formidable.
But right now, it was likely bound by powerful seals imposed by a strong Spirit Master, shackling its full potential and even preventing it from evolving past Haunter's form.
As for why Ayako's family had placed such a seal on Haunter, Sato deduced three possible reasons:
1. To restrain this powerful Ghost-type Pokémon that had likely served multiple Spirit Masters, preventing it from going rogue and causing chaos.
2. To keep such a high-level, gold-tier Pokémon within the Spirit Masterfamily's service. Releasing it would be a massive waste.
3. To prevent Haunter from exacting revenge on the family.
If Sato's guess was correct, then this Haunter had been under the Ayako family's control for many years.
A Ghost-type Pokémon of such immense strength being forced to serve beyond its first trainer—there was no way it wouldn't hold resentment.
If this powerful Ghost-type Pokémon were to break free of its seal, the Ayako family would undoubtedly face a catastrophe.
The Spirit Masters wanted Haunter to continue serving their family while ensuring it wouldn't rebel. Using a seal was undoubtedly the perfect solution.
After all, Spirit Masters specialized in sealing Ghost-type Pokémon. Limiting a Ghost-type's power through seals was a simple task for them.
It wasn't surprising that Growlithe had been instantly defeated by Haunter's Shadow Ball. Ayako had just released a portion of Haunter's seal, causing a dramatic surge in its strength.
Moreover, Shadow Ball had struck Growlithe directly on the head, landing a critical hit. That was the real reason Growlithe had gone down in an instant.
"I thought this female Spirit Master Trainer had used some overpowered spell to boost Haunter's strength, but it turns out she's just exploiting stored power. This poor gold-tier Haunter has been treated like a puppet for so many years."
Now that he understood the situation, Sato's initial shock gradually faded. When he looked at the Haunter radiating overwhelming energy, he actually felt a trace of sympathy.
However, that sympathy vanished as quickly as it appeared. He vividly remembered the greed in Haunter's eyes when it looked at him, along with the undeniable aura of malice it exuded.
Clearly, this Haunter was no harmless creature. Spirit Masters had emotions, too, and after spending years with their Pokémon, some level of attachment was inevitable.
If Haunter had been treated this way for so long, there had to be a deeper reason.
Sato didn't know why this elegant-looking female Spirit Master Trainer, who wielded such a powerful Pokémon and came from an ancient family, was participating in a small-scale battle venue like this. But one thing was certain—he had no chance of winning.
He wasn't facing a delicate-looking girl. He was up against the heritage and deep foundations of an old Spirit Master family.
Judging by Haunter's current level and the percentage of its seal that had been lifted, its true level was likely over 80, meaning it was at the Elite Four tier.
Unless Sato had an Elite Four-tier Pokémon of his own, there was no way he could defeat this "cheating" Trainer.
This battle was nothing more than a nivice rank player fighting a Final Boss opponent—there was no chance of victory.
Having realized this, Sato could only look at the beautiful Spirit Master Trainer with resignation. He couldn't understand her motive.
What was the point of someone who could command an Elite Four-level Pokémon participating in low-tier battles?
For Ayako, however, there was plenty of reason.
The truth was, Ayako had spent her entire life following the traditions of her clan, living in seclusion. She had long yearned to see the outside world, but her family always refused her, claiming she was too young, too inexperienced, and the future heir of their clan.
The only reason she had come to Saffron City this time was that some of her family's wandering members had reported that an auction was being held here, featuring a long-lost artifact of their clan.
After much pleading, she finally convinced her father (the clan leader) to let the elders bring her along to experience the outside world.
But to her frustration, her father was incredibly stingy. Before she left, he had only given her a few million PokeDollars. In Saffron City, where there were so many interesting sights, delicious foods, and fun things to do, she spent it all within a few days.
After running out of money, she called her father to ask for more, only to be firmly rejected. To make matters worse, the elders who accompanied her had all mysteriously disappeared after arriving in Saffron City.
Fortunately, although Ayako was inexperienced in social affairs, she was highly intelligent. With five Ghost-type Pokémon assigned to protect her, she ensured that anyone who tried to target her ended up paying the price instead.
Unfortunately, those who dared to approach her were nothing more than paupers, and she couldn't make much from defeating them.
In the end, she had to find another way to make money. Upon learning that battle venues offered generous rewards for victories, she immediately saw an opportunity.
After a few matches, she realized that making money here was laughably easy. None of the trainers she faced were strong enough to challenge her, making every battle one-sided.
Over time, she began to enjoy the feeling of crushing weaklings. Winning money, overwhelming opponents, and hearing the cheers of the audience—it was the perfect combination.
Ayako was thoroughly satisfied with this arrangement.
Tonight, she had deliberately chosen a new venue for her entertainment. And her first target in this new battlefield was none other than Sato.
