Sato held the invitation to the high-end auction house in his hand. Naturally, gaining access to the mid-tier auction house was effortless for him.
Moreover, because of his high-end invitation, he received the highest level of treatment within the mid-tier auction house.
Led by a young, beautiful woman dressed in a stunning evening gown, Sato entered a lavishly decorated private room.
He settled onto a plush sofa, facing a one-way transparent glass wall.
Through the glass, Sato had a clear view of the auction stage and the seating area below.
"Sir, please enjoy your tea. You may rest here for now; the auction will begin shortly. I will be waiting at the door should you need anything," the beautiful attendant said as she gracefully placed a steaming cup of tea on the table before Sato.
Her dazzling smile was paired with a teasing glint in her obsidian-like eyes.
"Understood. You may leave now," Sato replied.
His gaze lingered momentarily on the two prominent, creamy-white spheres in front of him, and the faint, alluring fragrance in the air stirred an inexplicable heat within him. However, he quickly suppressed the feeling and gave a curt nod.
Though the attendant maintained her charming smile, the disappointment in her eyes was unmistakable. After a polite bow, she tactfully exited the room.
—
"Alright, come on out. Everyone behave yourselves. If anyone causes trouble, I'll put them back into their PokéBall. Now, let's have a late-night snack."
As soon as the attendant left, Sato released all his Pokémon from their PokéBalls. Then, he took out a large assortment of canned delicacies.
With a bit of fire from Growlithe, the food was warmed up, and the room was soon filled with an irresistible aroma.
His Pokémon got along well, but there was still an established order—one based on strength. As the undisputed leader of the team, Swampert was always the first to eat.
Once he took the first bite, the others followed suit.
Currently, Meowth held the lowest rank in the group. However, having spent considerable time navigating Saffron City, Meowth was well-versed in social hierarchies.
Not only was he the last to take his share, but he also busied himself serving drinks and attending to the other Pokémon, playing the perfect role of the "new recruit."
Thus, Sato and his Pokémon enjoyed their hearty meal while waiting for the auction to begin.
—
As the auction drew closer, more people began filling the hall. However, unlike regular auctions, there was no lively chatter.
Attendees were unwilling to reveal their identities, and the atmosphere was heavy with tension and anticipation.
At precisely 11 PM, a stunning woman in a crimson evening gown, accompanied by an Xatu, appeared in midair above the auction hall.
Enveloped in a blue aura of psychic energy, she gracefully descended from the sky.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. My name is Mina, and I will be your auctioneer for this evening. I know you're all eager to begin, so let's not waste time. Let's bring out our first item!"
As Mina landed, the first auction item appeared on stage in a flash—teleported by Xatu. It was a massive, cloth-covered object.
Under the eager gazes of the audience, Mina dramatically pulled away the black cloth, revealing a large cage made of specially reinforced glass.
"Wooaahhh!"
"Impressive! They're starting strong!"
"Looks like this auction is worth attending after all!"
A chorus of gasps and murmurs rippled through the audience.
"Quite the bold move—going all in right from the start," Sato muttered, rising from his seat and stepping closer to the glass wall. He locked his gaze on the three so-called 'shiny' Pokémon inside the cage.
The trio consisted of a Scyther, a Pidgeotto, and a Vulpix. However, something was off—their coloration was entirely pink. Every inch of their bodies, from head to tail, was an unusual shade of pink.
The Pokémon were separated within the glass cage, completely isolated from the outside world.
Due to the special properties of the glass, they could neither hear nor see beyond their enclosures.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see, these are three exceptionally rare shiny Pokémon! And look at their color—aren't they stunning? Completely pink from head to toe! Imagine bringing them to a Contest; they would absolutely steal the show!"
Mina's seductive smile gleamed as she spoke into the microphone, her voice laced with a cunning charm.
Most of her words were just showmanship, but the mention of Pokémon Contests caught the attention of the audience.
In recent years, Coordinators—trainers who specialized in Pokémon Contests—had risen in prominence.
Pokémon Contests were rapidly gaining popularity and had become the second most-watched competitive event after standard Pokémon battles.
Top Coordinators were household names, rivaling celebrities in fame and wealth. With lucrative opportunities emerging from Contests, more and more organizations had started investing in them.
Pokémon with striking, unique appearances—such as these pink Pokémon—could prove to be invaluable assets.
"Alright, since everyone's so enthusiastic, let's get started! Per the seller's request, the starting bid for each pink shiny Pokémon is 20 million PokéDollars, with a minimum increment of 1 million PokéDollars. First up, we have the pink Scyther! The auction begins now!"
"30 million PokéDollars!"
The moment Mina announced the start, a bidder immediately raised their paddle.
"40 million PokéDollars!"
Before Mina could even acknowledge the bid, another bidder quickly followed up.
Within minutes, the price of the pink Scyther soared to 80 million PokéDollars, and the bidding war showed no signs of slowing down.
"Hah, talk about ignorance. These Pokémon aren't shinies at all. Whoever buys them is getting scammed," Sato mused, reclining lazily on the sofa as he watched the heated bidding.
He shook his head, a strange expression on his face.
