A furious roar from the shiny Gyarados summoned no less than sixteen Gyarados. With Sato's system detection ability, he saw that all sixteen Gyarados were above Level 40.
One of them, nearly as large as the red Gyarados itself, was an intimidating Level 53.
Sixteen Gyarados appearing at once was not just formidable—it was downright terrifying.
Why? Because Gyarados were never known for reason. Once ignited by rage, they would never rest until either their enemies were destroyed or they themselves were taken down.
After letting out synchronized roars, all sixteen Gyarados, led by the Level 53 powerhouse, launched sixteen blazing orange beams from their mouths—Hyper Beams—straight toward the Poliwag and Tympole clans by the lakeside.
BOOM!!!
BOOM!!!
BOOM!!!
Explosions erupted across the lakeside like an airstrike. The area was pounded relentlessly.
Many Poliwag and Tympole who couldn't escape in time suffered heavy casualties. Cries of agony echoed across the water's edge.
"Poli!!"
"Croaaak!!"
The warriors of the Poliwag and Tympole line were enraged upon seeing their kin brutally decimated by the Gyarados' Hyper Beam assault. Their eyes turned bloodshot, and they charged forward to fight the Gyarados head-on.
But these sixteen Gyarados weren't on the same level as the newly evolved red one. Their individual strength far surpassed that of typical Poliwrath and Seismitoad.
Even when surrounded, the Gyarados didn't flinch. Once the aftereffects of their initial Hyper Beams subsided, they, under the command of the Level 53 leader, retaliated with a sweeping counterattack—Aqua Tail.
Sixteen colossal blue tails made of swirling water smashed across the shoreline, scattering the Poliwag and Tympole line fighters like leaves in a storm.
The combined Aqua Tail created a tidal wave that surged from the lake and crashed violently onto the shore, blasting the remaining Poliwag and Tympole even farther inland.
"Our chance is here. Let's go."
Seeing the heavily injured red Gyarados flung far from the lake by the wave, Sato realized his moment had come. He quickly led Bellossom and the others out of the tree hollow and headed toward the lakeside.
Even if the situation was a bit different than he originally expected—who cared? After witnessing the red Gyarados's magnificent rampage, Sato had already made up his mind to capture this Shiny Gyarados.
If he let this opportunity slip by, he'd regret it for sure. Shiny Pokémon were rare enough, but a Shiny Gyarados—one that was notoriously hard to evolve and incredibly powerful—was a prize among prizes.
And this one had golden ratings.
Sato headed straight for the red Gyarados. But on the way, he was intercepted by several Poliwag and Tympole line Pokemon who'd also been swept away by the wave. Compared to the red Gyarados, they were lighter, so they were thrown even farther inland.
Now, spotting the unfamiliar outsider, they unanimously turned their aggression toward him.
"Tch. You've got some nerve. Come out—Arcanine, Ursaring!"
"Kecleon, use Role Play on that Tympole's Water Absorb ability. Then use Skill Swap to give it to Arcanine, Ursaring, and Ariados."
"Bellossom, Grassy Terrain! Bombard them with Energy Ball!"
"Arcanine, use Hidden Power!"
"Ariados, use Swords Dance and Focus Energy, then follow up with Poison Sting barrage!"
"Ursaring, stand in front and protect me!"
Furious that these small fry dared attack him, Sato unleashed Arcanine and Ursaring and barked out commands to his team.
Kecleon, perched stealthily on Sato's shoulder, locked eyes on a Tympole with Water Absorb. Its eyes flashed red, and in a blink, it copied the ability.
Then, with Skill Swap, Kecleon transferred Water Absorb to Arcanine. It repeated the process again for Ariados and Ursaring.
As Kecleon worked, eight Poliwag (around Level 20) and three Poliwhirl (Level 28+) charged forward. They aimed Water Gun and Bubble Beam attacks at Arcanine, trying to overwhelm him.
Meanwhile, six Palpitoads also attacked from the flank, launching Mud Shot volleys.
Fortunately, Arcanine had already received the Water Absorb ability. Although he couldn't dodge all the incoming water attacks, not only did he remain unscathed, he actually recovered HP, becoming even more energized.
As for the Mud Shot from the Palpitoads—far fewer in number—Arcanine easily evaded them.
But Arcanine wasn't going to take it lying down. He immediately countered with Hidden Power (Grass).
Just then, Bellossom completed her Grassy Terrain, drawing on the surrounding lush energy and summoning a vibrant five-meter field of revitalizing grass.
Arcanine stood right on the edge of it. Empowered by the field, his Hidden Power (Grass) became significantly more potent.
One after another, green energy spheres formed around Arcanine before they fired off like a machine gun toward the oncoming Poliwag and Tympole line.
Overwhelmed by the level difference and type disadvantage, the enemy dropped like wheat under a sickle, losing their ability to battle in quick succession.
Meanwhile, Bellossom launched her Energy Ball barrage at the six Palpitoads. As Water/Ground-types, they were four-times weak to Grass.
Each Energy Ball she hurled contained an overwhelming force. The Palpitoads, all Level 30+, didn't even get a chance to cry out before they collapsed into the mud.
Ariados, reassured by Arcanine and Bellossom's devastating performance, jumped into the fray. After using Swords Dance and Focus Energy, it joined in with a barrage of Poison Sting.
Thanks to the boosts, the Poison Stings not only hit harder but also occasionally landed critical hits or inflicted poison.
Under this needle storm, both the Poliwag and Tympole line struggled to dodge. Those who were hit reeled in pain.
Soon enough, under the combined assault of Arcanine, Bellossom, and Ariados, the lake clans could no longer hold their ground.
Due to Water Absorb, their go-to Water-type moves were rendered completely useless.
Arcanine, with his blazing speed, became a force of nature—every Water move thrown at him just made him stronger.
And Bellossom? She was a walking turret. Boosted by Grassy Terrain, her Energy Ball machine gun mowed down everything: Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Tympole, Palpitoad—even Seismitoad elites couldn't withstand a single hit.
Realizing they'd run into an immovable steel wall, both clans decisively retreated, leaving behind their fallen.
Now, with the enemies beaten back, Sato finally made his way to the collapsed red Gyarados lying on the lakeside.
But just as he did, a new set of eyes locked onto him—those sixteen blue dragons, the Gyarados pack.
They stared daggers at Sato.
But Sato didn't spare them a second thought. They hadn't even come ashore yet, and the distance between the lake and him was at least ten meters. They couldn't reach him in time.
Confident in his team's protection, Sato tossed a black PokeBall he'd prepared well in advance—directly at the red Gyarados.
It struck dead-on.
But just then, a beam of orange energy shot out of the mouth of the Level 53 Gyarados still in the lake.
Its target?
The very red Gyarados it had just helped rescue moments before.
