The interdimensional gate thrummed with raw energy, its circular frame crackling with arcs of blue and white light as the stabilizers locked into place. The entire lab vibrated with power, monitors flashing lines of data faster than the human eye could track.
Bruce stood at the main console, fingers flying across the holographic interface as he set the coordinates. His brow furrowed in concentration.
Sue crossed her arms, watching over his shoulder. "Are you sure about this? We've never tested the gate on a living subject, let alone across universes."
Bruce smirked. "That's why I'm not going first."
With a few more taps, he activated a secondary terminal. A compartment on the far side of the lab hissed open, revealing an Iron Man suit. This wasn't one of Tony's older, bulkier models. It was a solid built, designed purely for reconnaissance, carrying no weapons—just sensors, comms, and a reinforced frame for durability. Perfect for dimensional travels.
Bruce pulled up the telemetry feed on one of the larger monitors as the suit booted up. The HUD flickered to life. The live footage was being displayed on the screen. He did a little adjustment, making sure everything was fine and then it was time.
"Alright," Sue said as she walked out of the containment room and walked toward the main console. "I'm ready." Her hand was over the big red button.
Bruce also went out of the containment room and nodded at her. "Alright," he took a deep breath. "Go for it."
Sue pushed the button. A bright flash filled the lab followed by a loud bang, sending Sue and Bruce stumbling back a bit. When they looked up at the gate, the armor was already gone and the gate was stable.
"Do you think it worked?" She asked, looking at the screen. It was all hazy and statics.
"No idea. Give it some time. It's crossing to a completely new verse, so who knows how much time it will take."
Both of them sat down at their seats, waiting.

[Ten Years Later – Gotham and Beyond]
Wayne Enterprises
The skyline of Gotham had changed in the past decade, but one constant remained—the towering monolith of Wayne Enterprises. Once the brainchild of Thomas Wayne and the legacy of Bruce Wayne, the company had flourished beyond expectations under its current CEO: Pamela Isley.
Pamela had proven to be an unconventional yet exceptional leader. With her unmatched intellect in bioengineering, she had shifted Wayne Enterprises toward a greener future. Under her guidance, the company pioneered self-sustaining infrastructure, biodegradable technology, and clean energy sources that powered not just Gotham but cities worldwide. It wasn't as perfect as the Arc Reactor, but closer enought to stop unnecessary pollution.
Yet, for all her success, Pamela never stopped hoping. Hoping that Bruce, her love, would return.
Every now and then, she found herself looking at the massive portrait of Bruce Wayne in the CEO's office... His piercing blue eyes seemed to silently judge her, asking the same question she asked herself every day:
"Are you keeping them safe?"
And she was.
Sometimes at night, she would cry herself to sleep, her mind playing back that fateful day, the day when Bruce sacrificed himself. She wondered if she was there with him, if she could have changed the outcome. But those were just thoughts. They wouldn't bring him back. She knew he would want her to keep moving forward. He always wanted her to keep moving forward.
In the end, it was the sound of thunder that shook her from her reverie.
A storm had blown in suddenly, sending rain lashing against the windows of the room.
Pamela just lay there on her bed looking at the sky...

[League of Assassins]
Talia al Ghul took over the leadership. She kept the rules Bruce made. No longer did they strike from the shadows to create chaos; instead, they maintained peace in the shadows. It was Bruce's vision—one that Talia had once mocked, yet now honored.
She had changed. The day Bruce vanished, something inside her broke... and rebuilt itself. She had carried more than just his ideals... she had carried his child.
Damian Wayne.
The boy had been raised away from the league's shadows. Talia knew that Bruce wouldn't want their child to become an assassin and put himself out there in danger. Instead, she raised him in Gotham... with Martha and Thomas Wayne. However, she trained him everyday for two hours to make sure he could handle himself in trouble.
Damien learned what his father would have wanted—for strength to be used for justice, not vengeance. But when it comes to evil who threatens the innocent, Damien was taught to be ruthless. Although he was just ten years old, Damian was already skilled enough to fight men twice his age.
Talia had never truly loved anyone the way she had loved Bruce. And now, every time she looked at their son, she saw his father's eyes staring back at her.
"He'll return one day, Mother," Damian would often say with certainty.
"Of course he will. He never broke a promise," she always replied.
She knew he would keep his promise.

[Themyscira]
The throne of Themyscira had been offered to Diana, but she had refused. The Amazons needed a queen, but the world needed a warrior. Instead, she had taken another title:
Leader of the Justice League.
Her mother, Queen Hippolyta, had been disappointed but understood. Diana's heart had always belonged to the world of men. And more importantly, to a man she had lost.
She had lost Bruce.
But he had left something behind.
Their daughter, Elissa Wayne, was the strongest link between their two worlds—an Amazon princess with the intellect of her father and the compassion of her mother. She was raised in the Wayne Manor alongside Damien. And Damien, being the big brother, always kept a watchful eye on her and even covered for her pranks and stunts.
"Did you shave off Grandpa's mustache when he was snoring on the balcony last night? I told you not to do that. He's gonna be mad," Damien crossed his arms over his chest.
"Come on! You saw how ridiculous he looked with that bushy mustache. It's like he's trying to be a supervillain or something," Elissa rolled her eyes. "Like that guy from Sonic... Eggman!"
"Haaa..." Damien sighed, "You can't go around and shave people's mustaches when they're sleeping. Grandpa's angry. And no chocolate for you for an entire month. That's what he said. And he even banned Aunt Maggie from smuggling in those chocolate cakes in your room."
"But it was for his own good," Elissa pouted. "And why don't you help me instead?"
"And get my butt whooped by grandma? No way."
Elissa took out her limited edition Pokemon card and held it before Damien and he snatched it like a snake and held it to his eye level.
"It's yours if you help me. Come on!"
"Deal!"
Diana watched the scene on her surveillance pad and just smiled. She was glad that they were getting along and Damien covering for his sister. She swiped the screen and opened a picture of Bruce that she took when he was sleeping. She brushed her fingers gently across his face. She missed him every day and prayed to her gods for his safe return.
...
Two years after Bruce's disappearance, Aquawoman had officially joined the League. The peace between the Amazons, Atlanteans, and humanity remained strong, built on a foundation Bruce had helped reinforce before his vanishing act.
Yet not all had handled his absence well.
Kara Zor-L, known to the world as Power Girl, had changed.
She had been there that day. She had seen the space crack consume Bruce, Harley, and Selina. She had heard his last words—words that haunted her every waking moment:
"Sorry, I leave the Earth in your hands. And look after my family, will ya? Also, thank you for everything... Don't worry, I'll be back."
She wanted to believe him. But ten years had passed, and there was still no sign of him.
So she had stopped waiting.
Power Girl had become ruthless. Villains no longer got second chances. She still fought for justice, but there was no longer any hesitation in her methods. The Clark Kent way of handling things? Too slow. Too merciful.
Kara knew better now.
If Bruce had been stronger, if she had been stronger, he wouldn't have been taken that day.
And so, she made sure no one else would ever be taken.

She did not tolerate disobedience.
They built new bases on Mars and on the Moon.
...
[Present time]
Skylar's lighting crackled around her fingers. She could sense a familiar feeling. It was very faint but it was there... "Took him long enough."
