DEAD BECOMING LIVING

"It was Friday afternoon during the staff's lunch break and museum was closed for an hour typical. This break hour rule was supported by the government when I urged them and necessitated for once-a-week museum's closure so that the staff could secure a break. The mayor didn't retort or argued and accorded permission to have a lunch break on Friday during work hours by closing the museum for an hour. After all this is a government building storing ruins and artifacts, theft could be effortlessly dismissed or ignored if the rules are too strict and imposing on the staff." The Chief explained as others dragged down all the corpses at a corner against the museum wall outside with Hael and Riruru carrying torches behind them.

The dusk has already begone and dark welcomed the fire crackers to alarm the surrounding by creating an illusion of arson but it devoid the sound which can distinguish a real fire by some lit crackers, toddlers are fond of. (Noise-free crackers)The Chief tell-tales the whole incident which occurred a year ago, "Out of blue, the people in museum encountered some runaway predators and animals of the forest, thanks to the negligence of the mayor office. The mayor might have listened to us on several occasions but the only thing he have never agreed was to seal the vulnerable access of woods near the museum. Because of the laxed attentiveness to the requested problem the museum could face anytime, we could've died that day.""How does this explain your disrupt with the police?""Well... should I divulge to them?" Liliane hesitates while looking at the Chief who turns away with his head down, hiding his expression with the assistance of the darkness. Only Grey and Liliane knew that he was flushing red right now."Why are you shy," Grey teases as he served the truth before some curious eyes who thought the Chief didn't want to discuss as he turned away but instead... "He punched the head police officer because they weren't filing a complaint against the mayor.""How w-would I know that the mayor can't be arrested if we file a complaint!" The Chief hollers and everyone knew he was mortified but thick skins never reveals an error. Specially if an eagle-blood didn't know the basic constitution, then how awful it must be if other were to know about this."Chief, worry not. You can protest by not voting for the mayor!" Mysty tries to uplift the Chief's mood while suppressing a smile complaining to lift the curves of her lips. "We can always choose another leader. Why don't you stand for elections?""Only wolves does that," The Chief said. "Besides, with police and government having me in their bad books, I won't stand a chance.""So, just because you reacted on impulse and punched a senior ranked officer, the station won't help the museum. That's absurd.""Arrogance works like that. The rules of powerful ones, comes with haughtiness and strength.""And I thought there's something more," Riruru shrugs her shoulders in letdown. Who doesn't love the backstory behind rivalry. But just a punch was enough to earn the police's distaste. That's not enough and disappointing for a novel reader.."There is more." Newt ponders over as his hand travelled his tousled locks gaining disdain from a certain jealous human. "Why the Mayor isn't closing the woods near the museum. Didn't you said that to protect the treasures he was willing to close the museum. Willing to stop income coming in the mayor office for an hour to give a mere break.""He is your uncle, better you ask him," the chief snorts. "His decisions contradicts every theory of mine. When I think that I know who he supports, the mayor does something to eradicate my conclusions.""He is just a distant relative and I have only seen him once in a family gathering and rest on television or newspaper. Bet he doesn't even know I exist." Newt changes the subject diligently."The sirens are nearing-"Everyone turned towards the two cars which pulled up on the deserted road, leading to the museum. To their surprise, the centaur police have enough brains to be cautious as they carefully walked towards the burning fire crackers marking the situation to be arson in their small brains. The Chief nodded at the boys who picked up the last deadling to the pile of others while the police furrowed their brows with confusion followed by irritation as they come closer and found something worth not traveling a long distance for leaving their sleep and unbolted drinks behind in the station."Hello officers!" the Chief headed for them grossing glares which didn't work on the eagle as he merrily announced. "Thanks for coming. Though I suppose the phone call from the museum was not the real reason for your quick arrival."Present there were six centaur police who weren't exactly like their ancestor- Human skin and complete body with two furless legs but four of them have horns on top of their head. The centaurs descendants have 89% chance to have more than their ancestor's blood unlike wolves with 2% chance.Among the police, one of the oldest appearing centaur without the horns stepped out and exploded at the grinning bald eagle, "Is this a joke. We thought it was a fire! But new year crackers!""Well, we happened to have a lot of them here and new year means new stuffs." The Chief looked innocent as he asked, "What happened? Did we disturb the police from doing their duty of night patrol."The six police men avoided the contact of eyes because in reality, only once in a week a night patrol is done, that too by the constable and new recruit. The Chief laughed inwardly while deriding," It would be a shame if the people found out that the local police is furious at the hard thinking and cautions people who just lit the fire-crackers to not disrespect the new year ambiance by using old crackers instead of new. We aren't misers unlike some."The oldest officer which looked like the senior, replied with a stern face, "T-That's not but you shouldn't light crackers in the middle of the night.""Eh... I haven't seen people lighting crackers at dawn or day light, perhaps the centaurs have different customs but let's drop the topic for no religious argument to be followed further," The Chief said. "We made a call to the station."The senior officer couldn't deny as his subordinate nodded before he could act like they didn't receive a call. The officer who agreed looked down, seeming to be now interested in the grass to avoid the stare of his senior who clenched his jaw in submission under the eagle's gaze. He was a new recruit and didn't knew that the senior didn't want to help the museum's chief.Liliane was with others, steps behind taking care of the deadlings, the name they have decided instead of referring them as corpses or zombies. She helped Odette to clean her hands which smelled pretty badly after picking up a corpse. While supporting Odette to wash her hands by the garden hose fastened to the tap with a handle, something tugged her pants. As her eyes narrowed down to the back, she lifted her leg which was grabbed by a not-dead deadling hastily and tried to get out of its grip. While struggling the deadling accidently scraped her leg before Odette stomped on its head with disdain and cold."Nice one," Liliane exclaimed as the yellow fluid flood down from the dead's head while Odette creeped out, brushing her boots against grass to get rid of the sticky yellow substance. "Thanks.""You owe me a dinner." Liliane rolled her eyes as she went again to the tap and used the hose to wash her hands and scar on ankle. Surprisingly, the deadling couldn't cut down her flesh as it was a small scratch which didn't even bleed. But Odette insisted to wash it quickly as she further planned to take a shower after reaching home. While the youngsters were dealing with the deadlings and washing, the eagle argued with the centaur in the politest way without using fists.Liliane listened to her friends and little Hael discussing the plan last time but got distracted suddenly. She felt a strong sensation under her nose and looked at the source of it. Two centaurs behind the senior and beside the new recruit were wobbling and they smelled of something intoxicating. The Chief's mocking and sarcastic tone could be heard as a smile found its way to Liliane while Odette couldn't figure out the reason for smiling and ignored her weird friend because she couldn't hear the conversation of the chief and police. The intoxicating smell received Liliane's attention. If we are talking about centaurs then anyone in Northpass can comprehend that they are fond of drinking and lusting things that aren't theirs.Liliane frowns as her nose flinched. In the series of events, people tend to forget their capabilities, for instance, a certain descendant of wolf forget that she didn't have strong senses to notice or hear something like others couldn't except few."Uncles!" Newt yelled as he waved over at the police who were perplexed to see the mayor's relative here. As the police they knew the relationships of important people not dared to be mess with but as a sloth they weren't aware that Newt was working here. If they would have known than they wouldn't have delayed coming over and helped before more frequently without having second thoughts. After all, when it comes to powerful people, small conflict could be forgotten instantly.Newt smirked in the dark after doing his part in the act written by the Chief before they set up the crackers. He continued, "We called you for your help.""S-Sir... y-es!" the senior stuttered as he eyed the Chief with a look that screamed 'A favor but not for you'. The Chief didn't care about that, just that the police was willing was enough for him. As the senior marched towards Newt's side, others trailed him but two drunkards were stop by the chief."What?" One of them asked crossly but couldn't decipher that the person before him had an unmasked rage for his ignorance, visible for other people to notice even in dark. Eagle's eyes are their treasure and a glare is enough to comprehend that you have messed up hard. "Dare to halt the police!""Dare to approach kids when drunk!" A certain angry eagle picked up one shouting drunkard over his shoulder and other was grabbed by the collar by him, not willing to let go. "Sober up first." Chief give a gentle smile. He maintained a certain distance to not let the alcohol reach minors as he silently nodded at Liliane to handle his part."What are t-these?" The senior got alarmed as one of the deadling slightly moved before Grey stomped on its limbs to let him meet death completely. "You weren't lying?""Like we have time for that!" Odette taunted because her words were taken as a bluff. She managed to survive two waves of deadlings as a human with nothing and still believed the police will help their civilians but they took her as a joke! Anyone would go fuming if there life is on the line."Are they zombies?" the new recruit shivered at the sight of yellow flood."Deadlings." Hael said as he pointed out at the yellow fluid, "Urine-"Mysty stopped him from repeating what Liliane taught him before so that they all could focus on the situation with deadlings instead of been inquisitive about their existence. Grey sneered at Newt after realizing that the couples brain works the same but Newt was oblivious, earning a sigh from his best friend but a revealed smile from Odette. On this full moon night, a human was still fighting for her unrequited love without the other knowing. Just fall was there in a month and he would be free to marry the one he truly loves. On the other side, the fiancée unaware of the human's feelings and her mate's plans was undergoing some changes as the night went on with some dead becoming living on the other side of the town with their stomach growling from hunger.
