Chapter 3: The Huntress

I ran, the forest floor a blur beneath my paws. Freedom coursed through my veins, and my howls echoed off the trees.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. Tall, lithe, with piercing green eyes.

"Astrid," I growled, recognizing the huntress.

Astrid, a skilled werewolf hunter, had been tracking me for months. Her motives remained unclear, but her determination was unnerving.

"You're getting reckless, Anya" Astrid said, her voice low and even. "The full moon makes you vulnerable."

I snarled, baring teeth.

Astrid smiled, unfazed. "I'm not here to harm you. Yet."

A figure stepped from behind Astrid – a ruggedly handsome man with piercing blue eyes.

"Meet Ryder," Astrid said. "He's been searching for you."

Ryder's gaze locked onto mine, and I felt an unexpected jolt.

"Why?" I asked, wary.

Ryder's expression turned solemn. "You're not the only one of your kind, Anya. There are others. And they need your help."

My ears perked up, intrigued.

Astrid's eyes narrowed. "Don't get too excited, Emily. Ryder's motives aren't entirely pure."

Ryder's jaw clenched. "I'm trying to protect our kind, Astrid. You know that."

The tension between them was palpable.

"What do you mean 'our kind'?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

Ryder's eyes locked onto mine. "You're not just a werewolf, Anya. You're a descendant of the ancient Lupari bloodline. And you hold the key to our survival."

I stumbled backward, my mind reeling. "What do you mean?"

"The Lupari were the first werewolves," Ryder explained. "Their bloodline holds the secrets of our kind. And you, Anya are the last living heir."

Astrid snorted. "That's quite a claim. What proof do you have?"

Ryder produced a worn leather journal. "This belonged to Anya's ancestor, a Lupari elder. It contains the history of our people and the secrets of the bloodline."

As I took the journal, a surge of energy coursed through me. The pages yellowed with age, filled with cryptic symbols and illustrations.

"This is impossible," I whispered.

Ryder's expression turned solemn. "The Lupari were hunted to extinction. But their legacy lives on through you."

Astrid's eyes narrowed. "What do you plan to do with her?"

Ryder's gaze never left mine. "I'll protect her. And help her unlock her true potential."

The forest around us grew quiet, as if the trees themselves listened to our conversation.

"What makes you think I'll trust you?" I asked.

Ryder smiled. "You don't have a choice. You need me to survive."
