At the far end of the hall, a figure waited. The New Saintess—invited me here personally, no less. That was rare. She was an enigma, someone who rose to prominence only recently, yet held an unnatural sway over the East. From what little I knew, her influence seemed too absolute, too... immediate.
I moved toward her office, navigating the long corridors that wound deeper into the Old Church. The air grew colder as I neared the Saintess’s chamber, the walls narrowing and darkening, as though I were descending into the heart of the beast. When I finally reached the large wooden doors, two guards in ornate armor stood watch. They wordlessly opened the doors for us, their eyes averted as if they feared what lay beyond.
