Chapter 114: The Interrupted Moment

Ethan's breath caught in his throat as he heard the voice outside the door. Darren's presence added an unexpected tension to the room, and his heart beat wildly. Luca remained silent, his eyes locked on the door, trying to gauge whether Darren was just passing by or waiting for a response.

"Luca, are you in there?" Darren's voice called again, a bit louder this time.

Luca shot a quick glance at Ethan before responding, "Yeah, I'm here!" His voice was steady, but the heat between them had cooled instantly, replaced by the anxiety of nearly being caught.

"What are you doing?" Darren asked, his voice curious but tinged with suspicion. "I thought I heard something."

"Just… resting," Luca replied, trying to sound casual. "I was tired after the pool."

A tense silence followed, with both Ethan and Luca holding their breaths. The door handle jiggled, testing the lock, and Luca's heart skipped a beat. His brother was never one to let things go so easily, and he could already sense Darren was not convinced.

"Damn it," Luca muttered under his breath, eyes darting around the room for a quick plan. He sat up, grabbing his discarded shirt from the floor and tossing it at Ethan. "Stay under the blanket," he whispered urgently.

Ethan nodded, clutching the blanket tightly as Luca got out of bed, his body still tingling from their unfinished moment. He ran a hand through his tousled hair and opened the door just wide enough to peek through.

"What's up, Darren?" Luca asked, forcing a relaxed smile.

Darren's eyes scanned his brother's appearance, then shifted past him, trying to peer into the room. "You look… flustered," he remarked, a hint of amusement in his tone. "You sure you were just resting?"

Luca laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, what else would I be doing? Why are you acting so weird?"

Darren smirked and leaned against the doorframe. "I'm not acting weird. Just thought I'd check on you. You left the pool in a hurry."

"Needed some air," Luca said, shrugging. "And a nap."

Darren's gaze lingered on him for a moment longer before he finally pushed away from the doorframe. "Alright, if you say so. But you should come downstairs soon; dinner's almost ready."

"I'll be there in a bit," Luca assured him. "Just need to freshen up."

Darren nodded, though there was a knowing glint in his eyes. "Don't take too long," he said before walking away.

Luca closed the door and let out a sigh of relief, turning back to Ethan, who was sitting up in bed. "That was close," Ethan murmured, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"Too close," Luca agreed, crossing the room to rejoin him. "Guess we'll have to be more careful next time."

Ethan's eyes sparkled mischievously as he pulled Luca back onto the bed. "Or maybe we can just finish what we started."
