Chapter 23

I tie my hair up in a neat bun, adding just a touch of makeup to mask the fatigue I feel. As I grab my bag and head for the door, i hesitate for a moment, wondering if I should text Michael.

Would he be thinking about last night too? Did our conversation stay with him the way it lingers with me? I stand there, my phone in my hand, fingers hovering over his name in my contact list. After a moment, i decide against it. I don't want to push him. Not yet.

The city is already busy as people also try to get to their destinations and by the time I step outside, the noise of traffic and pedestrians fills the air. I walk briskly to the subway station, my heels clicking against the pavement. I weave through the crowd, my mind still drifting back to Michael despite my best efforts to focus on the day ahead.
