Chapter 27

I blink, barely able to comprehend what is happening right now. "I—I'm not sure. I need to talk to Michael. This can't be true, right?"

 

Greg steps closer, his eyes softening as he places a hand on my shoulder. "I don't know, Bella. But if he's caught up in this, you need to be careful. You know how these things can spiral out of control."

 

I bite my lower lip, my heart pounding in my chest. The headlines had already gone viral, and people were starting to speculate. I have to talk to Michael—i need answers.

 

"I'll call him," i say, grabbing my phone. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through her contacts. I haven't spoken to him since that night at the café, but this feels urgent.

 

I dial his number and held my breath as it rings. One ring. Two rings.

 

"Isabella?" His voice comes through the line, sounding calm but tense, like he has been expecting this call.
