Speaking To Jamal

A WEEK LATER.

Sabrina weighed her options as she sat on a pile of rocks, looking at her work-roughened hands. She had gotten used to the grueling work now, and the men here had become her family.

After a while, it seemed she concluded as she stood from the rock and headed towards the head miner.

"Anything the matter?" The man asked, squinting at her in the sunlight.

"Can I leave early today, I have something urgent I have to do," Sabrina asked, her voice cautious, while she wondered if she was not getting ahead of herself.

The man did not talk for a while, just continued squinting at her, his bearded face looking speculative, as this was the first time that Sabrina would request something like that.

"You can leave early as you are not coming tomorrow as well, or any other day for that matter," The man said, his voice bland, and Sabrina just continued staring at her.
