### Chapter 15: The Last Act

The tension in the air was palpable as Rep, with the knife still pressed against the female journalist's throat, looked at the police officers and the crowd. "If you don't want to die in this massacre, you better arrest me now. Otherwise, more innocent people will lose their lives today," he declared, his voice firm and menacing.

The police officers looked at each other, and the crowd was paralyzed by fear, unsure of how to react. The sniper scope, which was positioned on a nearby tree, watched their every move. Time seemed to drag, and finally, some police officers and members of the crowd began to nod their heads, agreeing with Rep's demand.

Satisfied with the answer, Rep smiled, but the joy was brief. "But that's not enough," he said, his voice changing tone. In one swift, cruel movement, he tore open the female journalist's throat, the blade cutting through the skin with ease. Her body collapsed to the ground, the look of shock and pain still etched on her face.

Panic spread instantly. A police officer, overcome with outrage and horror, drew his gun, ready to retaliate, but before he could fire, a well-aimed shot rang through the air, hitting him in the head. The officer's body fell to the ground, and the terrified crowd threw themselves to the ground, seeking shelter from what had become a battlefield.

Rep, amidst the chaos, raised his hands, showing that he was ready to surrender. "Now, put on the handcuffs," he ordered, his voice calm but still filled with a dark intensity. The officers, terrified by what had just happened, hesitated, but no one dared to risk it.

It was then that a detective, known as **Detective Oak**, decided to act. Cautiously, he approached Rep and, with a firm gesture, placed the handcuffs on his hands. "You win, Rep," he said, his voice low but respectful. Carvalho turned to where the sniper was positioned, acknowledging Lara's presence. He raised a white flag, signaling that the surrender was being made in front of the public.

The officers, fearful and cautious, began to lead Rep to the police car. The atmosphere was still tense, but now there was a sense of control. Rep waved to the tree where Lara was hiding, knowing that she was still watching him. The sniper scope was now on his face, but he didn't care. He had gotten what he wanted - the attention, the power, and, in a way, a victory over those who had pursued him.

As Rep was placed in the police car, the sniper scope disappeared, and Lara felt a weight lifted from her shoulders. She wasn't sure what would happen next, but in that moment, there was a sense of relief. The case, despite all the tragedy it involved, seemed to have come to an end.

The officers, still cautious, closed the police car door and drove away, keeping their eyes open. Rep, even handcuffed and surrounded by those who had hunted him, felt that on some level he had triumphed. He had made his statement, and the friendship he had formed with Lara, even amidst the chaos, had become an indelible part of his story.

As the police car drove away, Rep looked up at the sky, hoping that one day he would see Lara again, not as fugitives, but as friends seeking redemption. The city was still in shock, but their story was far from over.
