The True Prey

Moments after I hit the ground, I felt a pain in my ear and then I heard the shot. I rolled to the left, and rolled, and rolled some more until I was behind a tree.

A bullet blasted a hole through the trunk of the tree and whizzed above my head. It was a fairly thick tree. It was thick enough to hide behind. So I jumped to my feet and started climbing.

I got 20 feet above the ground and sat on a branch. He kept shooting but he was shooting the base of the tree, assuming I was still there. He couldn't see me.

I had to find a way to close the distance between us without getting shot again. My stomach wound had healed by now, but it was a much slower heal than normal.

I climbed to the top of the tree. My plan was to jump down onto Clarence from above. I leaped from the tree toward where the shots came from. Using my enhanced sight I realized Clarence was much farther away than I thought he would be.
