The howling wind roared across the high sky. Two figures stood side by side, gazing toward the distant cityscape.
"Lady Maisha, do you believe the Star Alliance can withstand the Dark Throne's invasion?" The middle-aged man to the left asked hesitantly.
Draped in a gray robe that concealed his entire figure, his lower body appeared eerily empty. Occasionally, gusts of wind lifted the hem, revealing swirling mist where legs should have been—nothing else.
"Why wouldn't they?" Maisha countered.
Cyril replied, "The Dark Throne has dispatched Yuxi this time. He's one of the most promising candidates to become a Robed King in recent years, with formidable power."
Maisha said flatly, "Su Nan is no ordinary person either. Anyone capable of establishing a wizarding faction on the Star Continent isn't someone who will fall easily."
"That's true enough."
Cyril didn't argue. In truth, he had been astonished when he first learned that a wizard faction had emerged on the Star Continent.
The founder of the Star Alliance genuinely impressed him—such an achievement wasn't something just anyone could accomplish.
"But the Star Alliance's rise has been too rapid. Constrained by the local environment of the Star Continent, their power is inherently limited. Yuxi, on the other hand, is a Tier-3 Crystallized Wizard and controls the Wolf Tide Plane, a beast-infested domain with significant war potential. The odds of the Star Alliance winning are slim."
"Perhaps. We shall see," Maisha said calmly.
Logically, Cyril's analysis was sound. The Star Alliance's chances of victory were slim. Yet, Maisha had an inexplicable feeling that Su Nan might surprise her.
This intuition wasn't baseless.
After returning to the Codex of Wisdom, Maisha listened to Amy recount Su Nan's achievements. This young wizard from the Star Continent had already performed countless feats that bordered on miracles. Her instinct told her this might be no exception.
Even if the Star Alliance ultimately failed, Maisha wasn't overly concerned. She planned to intervene and rescue Su Nan, offering him a place within the Codex of Wisdom.
It wasn't just out of gratitude for Su Nan's care of Amy but also due to her recognition of his potential. A Tier-2 Crystallized Wizard under 800 years old was a prodigy worthy of cultivation, even by the standards of the Codex of Wisdom's upper echelons.
Shaking his head, Cyril refrained from further comment. He couldn't understand the source of Maisha's confidence. To him, the Star Alliance was a minor faction, easily crushed by any Tier-3 Wizard from the Dark Throne, let alone a Robed King candidate.
At that moment, both sensed a peculiar shift, their gazes instinctively turning skyward.
A wave of strange energy rapidly swept across the entire continent. For a moment, it felt as though the Star Plane itself had broken free from some unseen shackles.
"Plane sealing has been lifted," Cyril remarked knowingly.
Maisha nodded slightly, about to speak when her expression suddenly shifted. She looked toward the horizon.
The distant sky began to take on a crimson hue. Initially, it was just a small patch, but it rapidly expanded at an alarming pace, soon dyeing half the sky blood-red.
Maisha's eyes flashed coldly.
Cyril sneered, "The Dark Throne certainly wasted no time."
Plane Convergence!
This was the hallmark of an invasion!
Unlike the smaller skirmishes the Dark Throne had previously engaged in, Yuxi initiated the invasion by immediately activating a plane convergence, linking the Wolf Tide Plane with the Star Continent to establish an invasion entry point.
This strategy was a common method used by wizards who controlled planes when launching invasions.
After the linkage, the two planes would partially overlap, creating a contested area known as the Plane Battlefield.
In their view, the verdant grasslands in the distance abruptly gave way to patches of sandy terrain. The vibrant green was marred by bald, arid spots.
As the convergence deepened, the sand patches expanded, merging into a sprawling wasteland that eventually transitioned into dense forests—a surreal and peculiar landscape born from the overlap.
A long, mournful wolf howl echoed from the forest, followed by more howls resonating across the woods.
Amid the dense trees, dark shadows began to move.
"They're coming," Cyril said, his gaze flickering.
As he spoke, countless shadows emerged from the forest—a horde of wolves, each the size of a carriage.
These black wolves had crimson eyes, razor-sharp fangs, and claws capable of tearing through solid rock. Their wild, primal ferocity made it clear they were no ordinary beasts.
"Black Wolves," Cyril murmured.
These creatures were unique to the Wolf Tide Plane. Adult Black Wolves were as powerful as knights, their claws tearing through solid stone with ease. Elite Black Wolves could reach the level of grand knights, and their leaders—Lord Black Wolves—were legendary creatures capable of rivaling high-tier puppets.
From the forest emerged tens of thousands of these beasts.
Gathering into a massive swarm, the Black Wolves formed a rolling black tide, charging across the plains with such force that the ground seemed to tremble.
Their howls filled the air, reverberating across the plains as the beasts raced forward, ready to devour all life in their path.
Suddenly, the sound of heavy hooves broke through the cacophony.
Cyril turned his head to see a thin black line appear at the edge of the plain, stretching for over a kilometer and growing rapidly.
As the distance closed, it became clear—the line was a charging cavalry corps.
Each rider, clad in armor and adorned with intricate runes across their exposed faces, mounted sleek black panthers and surged forward like a tidal wave to meet the wolf tide.
"The Magitek Knight Corps, one of the Star Alliance's elite forces," Maisha observed.
"They responded quickly," Cyril noted, his eyes flickering with surprise.
The Star Alliance couldn't have known in advance where the Wolf Tide Plane's forces would invade—a strategic advantage for the invaders.
High above the battlefield, the convergence of planes had only just begun, yet the Star Alliance had already reacted with astonishing speed, deploying forces to the invasion site almost immediately.
Cyril, clearly puzzled, listened as Maisha explained, "It seems the Star Alliance inherited the legacy of the Starfall Guild. They established a magical energy network capable of monitoring energy particle fluctuations across the entire Star Continent. In addition, they've built thousands of teleportation arrays throughout the land, allowing them to deploy forces rapidly anywhere they're needed."
"I see," Cyril said, his tone a mixture of realization and silent admiration.
To achieve such efficiency under the harsh conditions of the Star Continent was no small feat. That wizard, Su Nan, clearly had extraordinary capabilities.
As Maisha and Cyril conversed, the battle on the plains raged on.
Black beasts and armored knights clashed violently, and blood sprayed as limbs were severed and scattered across the battlefield. A deafening cacophony of war cries erupted, filling the air.
It was as if red ink had been splattered onto a white sheet of paper, slowly spreading outward. In the blink of an eye, the vast plains were stained crimson with blood.
Countless swords pierced through the black wolves, snuffing out their lives. Yet, when the wolves' claws struck the knights' armor, they left only faint scratches.
A thin layer of faint, glowing light enveloped each knight, significantly reducing the damage they sustained.
This was the protective power of magitek constructs.
In terms of numbers, the wolves outnumbered the magitek knights tenfold. Yet, from the moment the battle began, the knights held the upper hand. Each strike from a legendary knight would effortlessly slay a wolf, while it took dozens of wolves to take down a single magitek knight.
Viewed from above, the plains had transformed into a grotesque meat grinder of a battlefield. Lives were lost with every passing second.
Despite the carnage, the wolves' numbers showed no signs of dwindling. More and more wolves surged from the forest, seemingly endless, flooding the plains in an attempt to surround the knights.
Maisha's gaze shifted beyond the battlefield to the rear of the magitek knight corps.
There, a group of wizard apprentices was meticulously engraving massive formations. In just over ten minutes, they completed twelve enormous temporary teleportation arrays.
As brilliant magical energy lit up the formations, countless golems emerged.
Stone golems, dual-bladed spiders, steel golems, elite dual-bladed spiders, adamantine golems—an unending stream of constructs joined the fray, bolstering the knights and stabilizing the precarious battle line.
Simultaneously, more magitek knight battalions raced toward the battlefield from afar, set to arrive within minutes.
This was Star Alliance territory. If they could withstand the initial onslaught and gain a foothold, reinforcements would arrive in an unceasing flow.
Both sides poured troops into the battle without hesitation. The battlefield expanded, stretching across the plains as far as the eye could see, with no end in sight.
From high above, Maisha and Cyril observed the unfolding chaos with calm expressions.
This was the nature of planar wars. The scale dwarfed any conventional conflict, with armies numbering in the tens or hundreds of thousands.
Human kingdom skirmishes paled in comparison to the sheer magnitude of a planar war.
And this was merely the initial skirmish.
At this stage, the most powerful combatants on the battlefield were at the legendary level. Neither side had yet deployed wizard-level forces, holding back their full strength.
Adamantine golems crushed wolves into pulp with their massive metal fists, occasionally unleashing devastating sonic waves that cleared swathes of wolves in an instant.
Magitek knights, mounted on their black rock panthers, charged fearlessly into the wolf tide, cutting down beast after beast. Their magitek constructs granted them exceptional defensive capabilities, making them like unstoppable tanks. Only when facing wolf lords did they slow.
As time passed, more magitek knights and golems joined the battle. The wolves emerging from the forest could no longer keep pace with their losses, and the Star Alliance began to take control of the battle.
Maisha silently nodded in approval. The Star Alliance's rapid response had blunted the Wolf Tide Plane's advantage. If the wolves had been allowed to amass a significant force early on, they could have established a strong foothold in the planar battlefield. From there, they could widen the planar fissure and send in even more reinforcements.
But the Star Alliance had given them no such opportunity.
If this continued, the wolves would be forced into a retreat, and the Star Alliance would launch a counterattack into the Wolf Tide Plane.
Under these circumstances, it was only a matter of time before Yuxi was forced to act. And Maisha's prediction proved accurate.
Suddenly, the forest's canopy twisted and distorted as five massive rifts tore open the sky. Each one expanded rapidly, growing to hundreds of meters long in mere moments.
From afar, the sky seemed to sprout five enormous, black eyes.
In the next moment, five wizard towers emerged from the rifts, hovering ominously in the air.
The towering structures loomed at an altitude of a thousand meters. From the ground, their colossal forms dominated the sky, exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression that made anyone feel insignificant.
"A medium-tier wizard tower and four small-tier towers. Yuxi has staked everything, even bringing out his strongest assets," Cyril remarked, his gaze narrowing.
This, Cyril thought, was why the Star Alliance stood no chance. If wizards were the sharp blades of war, wizard towers were the ultimate war machines.
A single wizard tower was equivalent to an army, and here there were five, including one medium-tier tower.
In comparison, the Star Alliance only had one small-tier wizard tower. Even if they gained an advantage against the wolf tide, the disparity in wizard towers was insurmountable.
The Star Alliance's foundation was still too shallow.
Just as Cyril was convinced of their impending defeat, his expression abruptly shifted.
Far off, dark specks appeared in the sky, hurtling toward the battlefield at incredible speed. Within moments, they reached the battle's edge.
They were massive metallic airships, their hulking frames gleaming coldly under the sun, etched with intricate runes. The ships cast long shadows over the ground as they advanced.
Thousands of flying warships filled the sky, blotting out the sun like a vast storm cloud. The oppressive weight of the wizard towers was suddenly lifted.
"What is this?" Cyril exclaimed, his e
yes widening in disbelief.
Maisha, equally astonished, stared intently at the warships. Slowly, a faint smile spread across her face.
"Su Nan," she murmured, "never fails to surprise."
