Their chakra began to flow, strengthening their leg muscles and making their steps lighter and faster. They darted through the trees, moving like shadows that were hard to catch.
However, that strange feeling did not fade. Even after they moved away from the border, the gripping silence remained. For Kurisu, this was no longer just a premonition. There was something—or someone—watching them.
"Stop." Kurisu's voice sounded firm, halting everyone's steps.
The women looked at Kurisu in confusion, some of them seemed to want to ask, but no one dared to break the seriousness on Kurisu's face.
Kurisu stood tall, her body tense, like a wolf sensing danger. Kurisu closed her eyes, trying to feel for any presence that might be hidden around them. Kurisu's heartbeat felt heavy, yet she kept her mind focused.
"Stay in place. Don't move," Kurisu whispered. Her hand rose, signaling them to remain calm.
Silence returned, but this time it felt like a duel. Between Kurisu's group and something in the darkness that had yet to be revealed.
"Now… can you come out?" Kurisu's voice echoed in the quiet night, firm and full of courage, even though in her heart, she was aware of the lurking danger.
Some shadows began to emerge from the darkness, surrounding Kurisu and her group. There were many of them, and their movements were almost soundless, indicating a high level of skill.
"So, you finally realized our presence as well," one of them spoke, the man's voice flat yet resonating with arrogance. "We thought you would remain unaware until it was too late."
The figures wore black clothing that covered their bodies from head to toe, concealing their faces and identities. However, the deadly aura emanating from them could not be hidden.
Kurisu observed carefully, her expression turning serious. "Thirty-five people?" Kurisu murmured quietly, enough for herself to hear.
"We initially intended to wait for you to reach your hideout," a woman's voice from the group sounded cold and calculating. "But it seems you are too alert for that. What a pity, now we have to settle this here."
"You… are you people from the Dark Market?" Kurisu glared sharply, trying to gather as much information as possible from this tense situation.
"Hm... You don't need to know," a man replied as he stepped forward casually, his confidence piercing through the tension in the air like a knife.
Kurisu did not want to wait any longer. "Then die!" Kurisu shouted. She quickly threw explosive shurikens, followed by the women attacking with similar strikes.
A loud explosion shook the night, illuminating the darkness for a moment, but Kurisu knew this was just to create a distraction. "Go now!" Kurisu shouted, leading the group to flee immediately.
The black-clad figures did not remain idle. They quickly pursued, moving with terrifying speed and precision, like unstoppable shadows.
Kurisu and her group continued to run, throwing explosive shurikens along the way to try to slow down their pursuers.
The forest echoed with the sounds of explosions and hurried footsteps. However, no matter how much they tried, the enemies kept getting closer.
Kurisu gritted her teeth, frustrated. "Damn it! They're too fast." Kurisu ran ahead, her mind racing for a solution. "If we head straight to Yugakure, they might continue to chase us. We need a place to make a stand… a place we can use to our advantage."
Then an idea crossed Kurisu's mind. The Valley of Hell.
"Southwest!" Kurisu commanded suddenly, her voice firm. The women did not question the order; they followed obediently, even though exhaustion began to weigh on their bodies.
