Bai Qing glanced back, offering a faint smile. "Aunt Wang, I don't want to burden you."
With that, she headed for the door.
Wang Qingmeng's tears fell one by one.
Bai Qing's mother had been her mentor, yet she felt powerless to protect Bai Qing.
How could she face her mentor now?
Bai Qing exited the obstetrics department, waving the report in front of Zhao Teng. "See for yourself, I'm not pregnant, so you can go back and report."
Zhao Teng felt awkward.
"Young madam, where are you going? I'll take you," Zhao Teng said softly. "That's what the boss instructed."
"I don't like being followed. Tell Mo Xiao I'll see grandmother, but I have other matters to attend to right now," Bai Qing said, visibly annoyed.
"Understood." Zhao Teng nodded.
Bai Qing turned and walked out.
After taking two steps, she realized she'd forgotten her phone and went back to retrieve it.
Just as she was about to leave, someone called her name.
"Bai Qing." Yun Qiqi's voice reached her ears.
Bai Qing froze. Of all the people to run into…
She turned silently, her gaze landing on Yun Qiqi.
Dressed in a hospital gown, Yun Qiqi looked pale.
Yet, she was still strikingly beautiful.
Though they resembled each other, the difference in their auras was stark.
Bai Qing possessed an inherent allure, yet her features exuded innocence.
Yun Qiqi, on the other hand, was purely aloof.
Two completely different beings.
Bai Qing frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Yun Qiqi's cold eyes held a flicker of jealousy. "I'm hospitalized. Leukemia."
Bai Qing paused. "Leukemia?"
"Yes, it was Mo Xiao who arranged for me to stay here," Yun Qiqi smiled faintly. "I heard the treatment for leukemia here was perfected by your parents."
Disgust churned in Bai Qing.
Using her parents' work to save her rival in love—how utterly nauseating.
"Then focus on getting better," Bai Qing said indifferently.
As she was about to leave, Yun Qiqi spoke again, "Bai Qing, give Mo Xiao back to me."
Bai Qing halted.
"If it weren't for you, I would've married Mo Xiao three years ago. It's because of you that we missed so many years together. Now that my health is failing, do you still plan to keep him? He doesn't love you!" Yun Qiqi said in a low, intense voice.
Bai Qing's expression remained calm. "How laughable. If he wants a divorce, he can come to me himself. Why send you? Is he that cowardly, that incapable?"
Bai Qing knew Yun Qiqi was merely trying to provoke her.
Trying to show her how much Mo Xiao cared for Yun Qiqi.
But even knowing this, Bai Qing couldn't deny the sting.
After all, she had loved that man for so many years.
"Mo Xiao is just too soft-hearted," Yun Qiqi bit her lip. "You have no parents and enjoy the old lady's favor, so you think being with him is natural. But you've forgotten—he doesn't love you, not even a little."
Bai Qing sneered, "How do you know there's not even a little?"
Yun Qiqi was momentarily stunned.
"If he didn't love me, why would he touch me?" Bai Qing asked coldly.
Yun Qiqi trembled slightly, her gaze shifting behind Bai Qing. "Mo Xiao?!"
Bai Qing froze, then smiled faintly—she had fallen for it again.
Turning around, she saw the cold, handsome face of a man.
"I'm here for a checkup, don't let me interrupt," Bai Qing said, preparing to leave.
"And the results?" Mo Xiao asked icily.
Bai Qing pulled out the report and slipped it into the pocket of his suit jacket, smiling sweetly. "Relax, I'm not pregnant."
Mo Xiao pulled out the report, feeling a slight discomfort.
For a moment, he had been… hopeful.
But that feeling quickly faded.
"If you're not pregnant, we need to discuss what comes next," Mo Xiao said coldly.
"Are you sure this is the place to talk?" Bai Qing pouted. "I haven't even eaten because of this hospital visit."
"Then let's eat," Mo Xiao said, his voice devoid of warmth.
"You take me," Bai Qing smiled, her lips curling. "We'll talk over a meal."
Mo Xiao looked at her with icy indifference. "Stop playing games."
Bai Qing let out a soft laugh, her voice delicate and sweet. "If I were really playing games, you'd already be kneeling before grandmother by now. I'm only asking for a meal."
Mo Xiao frowned slightly.
"Mo Xiao, accompany her. I'll wait for you in the hospital," Yun Qiqi said with a gentle, understanding expression.
Bai Qing smiled, linking her arm through Mo Xiao's. "Miss Yun has spoken. Let's go. There's a congee shop nearby I've been craving for a while."
Yun Qiqi watched as Bai Qing held onto Mo Xiao, a flash of malice crossing her eyes.
Mo Xiao turned to Yun Qiqi. "Go back to your room and rest. I'll be back soon."
"Okay." Yun Qiqi bit her lip. "Come back early, I'll wait for you to have lunch together."
"Hmm," Mo Xiao nodded.
Bai Qing pulled Mo Xiao away.
They arrived at the nearby congee shop.
Bai Qing picked up the menu, her demeanor relaxed. "Ah Mo, what will you have?"
"I'm not eating," Mo Xiao said coldly.
"Saving your appetite to eat with Yun Qiqi? I understand," Bai Qing waved to the waiter. "One abalone congee, please. And a basket of beef dumplings, thank you."
"Certainly," the waiter nodded and left.
Mo Xiao frowned. "That's too much."
He knew Bai Qing's appetite well.
She had a small stomach; she would be full after just a little.
"Ah Mo, really? A bowl of seafood congee and a basket of dumplings, and you think that's too much?" Bai Qing pouted pitifully. "Is the company bankrupt? Are you short on money?"
"Just eat," Mo Xiao replied coldly.
She could be adorably mischievous at times.
And at other times, downright infuriating.
Still, Mo Xiao had to admit, the past three years with Bai Qing hadn't been too unbearable while waiting for Yun Qiqi's return.
The food arrived.
Bai Qing began eating.
She was truly starving.
Not just her, but the baby inside her as well.
She puffed her cheeks, blowing on the congee to cool it before putting it in her mouth, looking as cute as a little squirrel.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Bai Qing's voice was soft.
"What did Qiqi say to you earlier?" Mo Xiao asked coolly.
Bai Qing frowned—was this some kind of interrogation?
"She said she has leukemia," Bai Qing replied.
"That's right," Mo Xiao said seriously. "Earlier, I went to get a bone marrow match for her. Unexpectedly, someone here is a perfect match. Can you guess who that is?"
Bai Qing's eyelids twitched. "The person you're talking about… is me?"
