Chapter 13: Monsters in the Dark

There weren't many viewers in the live stream, just a few dozen people.

Candy had just showcased her talent and was interacting with her fans when she noticed Ryan's comment.

As a streamer, she despised those who didn't donate yet still felt entitled to criticize in the chat, and it annoyed her greatly.

"Mind your own business, you boring guy." Candy said, giving the camera a disdainful middle finger.

She huffed, "It's only 7 PM, the sun just went down, where's the danger?"

At that moment, some viewers in the chat chimed in to support her.

[Exactly, mind your own damn business!]

[It's only the first night, if you die just by stepping away from the truck, how can anyone survive?]

[Just get out of the chat, you buzzkill.]

[You're just a clown hiding behind a screen trying to get attention.]

"Coward! I've lit a bonfire, the beasts won't dare to come near!" Candy looked around, continuing to mock, "Open your eyes and take a good look—where's the danger? Tell me!"

…

While flipping the steak, Ryan watched the streamer and her fans mock him and couldn't help but chuckle. "Heh, there really are people who don't value their lives."

He didn't exit the live stream, instead, he began to feel anticipation.

Ryan was eager to see when this female streamer would pay for her reckless behavior.

At that moment, some viewers in the chat recognized Ryan's earlier comment.

[Whoa, wasn't that Ryan who just spoke?]

[You guys are in trouble now, be careful he doesn't stop crafting gear for you.]

[I trust Ryan's judgment, it's better to be cautious on the first night—after all, you only live once.]

[Streamer, he's saying that for your own good, you should get back in the truck.]

"Who is Ryan?" Candy looked at the comments, her eyes filled with confusion.

She genuinely didn't know who Ryan was.

Because Candy hadn't checked the chat room at all during the day.

Before she entered the survival game, she had just finished a live stream that lasted all night.

When she was wrapped in her comforter and had just fallen asleep, she suddenly found herself on a freezing cold highway.

Candy thought she was having an incredibly realistic dream...

Since she was still wrapped in a thick comforter, she didn't feel the cold and quickly fell asleep in the truck.

When she woke up, it was already past four in the afternoon.

It was then that Candy realized she seemed to have been transported into a game.

So she wasn't aware that this world became extremely dangerous after dark...

By collecting information from the chat room through the system panel, she understood the general situation—

This was a world where players needed to drive around to find supplies.

However, she didn't collect any supplies because she discovered a live-streaming feature similar to her previous work, so she decided to return to her old profession in this world.

At that moment, a viewer shared the live stream link in the main group.

As soon as some players heard it was related to Ryan, they became curious and flocked into the live stream.

Soon, the number of viewers in the live stream was approaching 1,000.

Candy looked at the system panel, her eyes lighting up.

She had originally planned to take a break, but seeing so many people entering the chat made her reluctant to end the stream.

She knew what her advantage was—

In this game world, players had limited ways to entertain themselves.

All she needed to do was use her attractive appearance to draw in those male players and turn them into her fans.

This way, she could live a life that was both easy and safe.

Therefore, Candy saw this live stream as her opportunity.

After all, anyone who could become an internet celebrity or a streamer had a keen sense for traffic.

Candy believed that some cautious and timid players were too scared to leave their vehicles right now.

But they were still somewhat curious about what was happening outside.

She quickly changed her live stream title to [Late Night Outdoor Adventure].

This is definitely going to attract more viewers.

[What happened? I heard Ryan got roasted?]

[Wow, is this female streamer really that brave? She got out of the car wrapped in a blanket, isn't she afraid of getting attacked?]

Candy said, "Hello to everyone joining the live stream, I'm Candy! New viewers, please hit that follow button, and I'll lead you to explore the wilderness at night!"

Her car was parked near the right side of the highway, close to the wilderness.

The high beams were still on, allowing her to see part of the snowy plain ahead.

Since the area was mostly flat, the visibility was extremely clear, any monsters or beasts nearby were easily seen.

Candy walked a short distance into the snowy area. "You see, there's not as much danger as you'd think! Hey..."

"It looks like there's a supply crate not far away!" A notification appeared on Candy's system panel.

She didn't know how to drive a manual car and had slept all day.

So, just by watching the players in the chat discuss the supply crate, Candy had never even seen one herself.

The supply crate, which was very close, was actually her beginner's pack.

Originally, Candy was going to go empty-handed, but after seeing the comments, she returned to the car to grab the crowbar.

In no time, she successfully opened the supply crate.

"Wow, there's bread and water! And a can of peas!" Candy showcased her finds to the live stream.

…

On Ryan's side, he had already paid Leo for two packs of dried beef.

He was now eating beef jerky while watching Candy's live stream, looking slightly puzzled. "That supply crate looks like a beginner's reward. She couldn't have just stayed in one spot all day, could she?"

Ryan's expression turned serious because the initial rules mentioned—

To prevent players from staying in one place for too long, the game would have a mechanism similar to a shrinking safe zone.

Now, it had been a full 13 hours since the game started.

But the rules didn't specify how the safe zone movement mechanism and timing worked.

Ryan was also curious to see what would happen if one stayed outside the safe zone.

At that moment, Candy's actions in the live stream had already misled some viewers.

[Streamer, grab your supplies and hurry back, be careful not to get frostbite.]

[But it seems like the outside at night isn't that dangerous after all…]

[I plan to continue collecting supply crates, I hope to find some food besides bread, it's really hard to swallow.]

[The quality of the supply crates at night seems to have improved a bit!]

Many players, seeing that there was no danger at night, began to feel restless.

They didn't realize that Candy's abundance of supplies was because she hadn't moved, and it was merely a beginner's benefit.

Candy had set her live stream to first-person view and was excitedly interacting with the comments.

Suddenly, the live stream screen shook violently.

"Thank you for the gifts, I..." Candy's voice turned into a frantic scream, "Ah! No—"

In the next moment, it seemed like Candy had fallen to the ground.

She hurriedly got back up, not even bothering to pick up the supplies that had fallen, and began to run desperately toward the truck.

"Help! Help me—" Candy's voice was filled with terror, she seemed to be injured.

Fortunately, she wasn't far from her truck and managed to get back inside.

She quickly locked the doors and started the engine, seemingly wanting to escape from there as fast as possible.

[What's happening here!]

[Holy crap, I was just about to get out and grab the supply crate...]

[Sigh, Ryan just gave you a kind warning, and you didn't listen. Now you know better, right?]

[What the heck is attacking her? I didn't even hear any beast sounds!]

Candy couldn't care less about the comments anymore, she turned her head to look in the direction of the oncoming threat, and whatever was attacking her was already closing in.

"Bang—"

A dull sound echoed, causing the whole little truck to shake slightly.

Since there were no lights on the right side of the truck, the viewers in the live stream could only see a blurry shadow.

It seemed to be a humanoid creature.

It was wildly banging on the truck door, producing a series of dull thuds.

In her panic, Candy managed to start the truck.

But she had no experience driving a manual car and didn't know how to use the clutch to shift gears, so the vehicle wouldn't move.

Candy cried out in despair, "Quick! Someone tell me how to drive this thing!"

Before she could finish her sentence, there was a sound of glass shattering from the right side.

"Boom! Crash—"
