Chapter 22: Leo Qin's Concerns

[Item Name: Compound Bow]

[Level: B]

[Function: Fires crossbow bolts, maximum range of 100 meters, effective distance of 50 meters. Beyond 50 meters, the trajectory begins to drop, causing a certain degree of damage reduction.]

Ryan looked down at the crossbow bolt resting above him, its shaft as thick as a pinky finger, topped with a sharp hunting tip.

This type of tip creates three cutting wounds upon penetrating the prey.

The prey would lose a significant amount of blood, and such wounds are difficult to stitch up, with almost no effective means of treatment.

Within effective range, its lethality is even higher than that of firearms.

Ryan couldn't help but exclaim, "I've never used a compound bow before, I truly underestimated the power of this weapon. It should be easy to deal with those scavengers..."

After quickly grasping the basic operations of the compound bow, Ryan opened the live map.

He plotted a safe route, planning to navigate around the perimeter of the factory using the barbed wire to avoid the horde of zombies and reach the target point.

With one person and one dog, they began their rescue mission.

Buddy ran ahead, knocking down the zombies that blocked their path, clearing the way for Ryan.

The number of zombies here was relatively low, and Ryan quickly arrived at the edge of the main road ahead, where he could already see a large gathering of zombies outside the barbed wire.

Through the barbed wire and the mass of zombies, he could see several scavengers guarding the main entrance on the opposite side of the factory.

However, the visibility here was not great.

The zombies outside were constantly shifting, some of them had noticed Ryan behind them.

They caught the scent of a human, and a small portion of them began to gradually converge towards him.

It was impossible to aim like this, he needed to secure a higher vantage point.

Ryan glanced back at the factory, searching around, and found an external ladder that could be climbed.

If he could stand on top of the factory, he would gain a better view.

He would also be less likely to attract the attention of the zombies nearby.

Even if the scavenger team discovered his position, the roof of the factory was easy to defend and hard to attack.

They only needed to block the ladder leading up, and they wouldn't be able to do anything to him.

Ryan crouched down and spoke softly to Buddy, "Buddy, you go hide in a safe spot for now. I'll call you when I come down."

Buddy glanced at Ryan, understood immediately, and ran off.

Ryan slung the compound bow over his shoulder and began to climb up the ladder.

Three minutes later, Ryan successfully reached the roof of the warehouse.

Sure enough, the view from this position was excellent.

He lay down flat on the ground and started to move toward the edge of the warehouse, setting up the compound bow.

After positioning it, Ryan opened the lens cap of the scope.

Through the night vision of the scope, he could see the movements of the scavengers clearly.

The scavenger that Leo Qin had shot was now dead.

His chest had been pierced by a crossbow bolt, and the blood seeping from his body had formed a dark red puddle beneath him, attracting the surrounding zombies and making them even more frenzied.

The two scavengers stationed at the warehouse entrance seemed to be discussing something.

They looked worried as they gazed at the zombies outside.

They were likely concerned about how to retreat after the robbery was over.

"Don't get distracted, right now, you should only worry about your lives..." Ryan murmured softly, quietly placing his finger on the trigger of the compound bow.

At that moment, Ryan's system panel popped up.

He clicked to check it, discovering it was a voice call from Leo Qin.

Ryan didn't hesitate and directly answered the call.

From the other side of the system panel, a slightly rough male voice came through, "Hey, buddy, can you hear me?"

"I can hear you." Ryan replied.

Leo Qin clearly let out a sigh of relief.

It seemed he was a bit worried about Ryan running off with a weapon.

If that happened, he would undoubtedly be dead today.

Ryan spoke up, "I'm currently on the roof of the warehouse across from the factory, planning to take out the two enemies in front..."

"Just wait for my signal, and then you can leave through the front door." Ryan continued to observe the enemies.

He wanted to wait for the right opportunity, so he temporarily held off on taking action.

Given the current situation, it would be more reasonable to wait for the two scavengers guarding the door to briefly separate before taking them out one by one.

Alternatively, he could wait for a chance to take out both at once.

"Alright, I got it..." Leo Qin paused for a moment after listening, then asked with some concern, "Ryan, it seems like the warehouse across the way is quite far. The crossbow bolts have a limited range, and we also need to consider the drop in trajectory. It feels like the chance for error is pretty high."

Leo Qin clearly didn't have much faith in Ryan's shooting skills. "Plus, the number of bolts is relatively limited. Are you really not planning to get a bit closer?"

Ryan replied, "It's fine. I just need to do a little calculation."

According to the system panel's description, the effective range of this crossbow is 150 meters, with maximum power within 50 meters.

Ryan estimated that the distance to the factory across, factoring in the road in between, was about 80 meters.

At this distance, he indeed needed to calculate the drop of the bolt during flight.

Fortunately, Ryan had some shooting experience.

He was a regular at the gun club and held a legal hunting license. For him, hitting a target at this distance was relatively easy.

Meanwhile, inside the factory across the road.

Behind the blinds of the second-floor office stood a middle-aged man wearing a fisherman's hat and camouflage clothing, his face covered in scruffy stubble, giving him a rugged appearance, but his eyes were particularly sharp.

The man was Leo Qin, a truck driver and an experienced hunter.

He was born in an area with rich natural resources, and his family had a hunting tradition that dated back to his great-grandfather.

Growing up surrounded by this tradition, he became the most famous hunter in the area as he got older.

Before entering the game, Leo Qin was participating in a bear hunt that occurred only once every four years.

Unfortunately, he woke up in a treehouse and found himself in this game.

The downside was that aside from his sleeping bag and warm clothing, he hadn't brought any of his other gear into this survival game.

After hearing Ryan say, "It's fine, I just need to do a little calculation." Leo Qin fell silent for a moment.

"Uh... haha, as long as you can calculate, how about we turn on the video call function? I can help you with some pointers." Leo Qin chuckled awkwardly.

After hearing Ryan's voice, he realized that Ryan was quite young, sounding like someone who hadn't even finished college yet.

Leo Qin sent a video call request.

Soon, Ryan's figure appeared on the system screen.

The moment Leo Qin saw Ryan's face, he felt a chill run down his spine.

Leo Qin had some stereotypes about young people.

He instinctively thought—

These twenty-somethings are often both eager to show off and somewhat unreliable.

They frequently mess things up after trying to act cool, needing older folks to clean up their mess.

At least that was how he was when he was younger.

Leo Qin was beginning to feel a bit flustered, wondering if he had been a bit reckless.

Initially, seeing many people in the chat calling Ryan a big shot, Leo Qin instinctively thought Ryan was an experienced adventurer with survival skills…

But now, it seemed he was just a kid.

And they were asking him to kill someone…

Could this guy actually handle it?

Ryan flipped the video call camera, adjusting it to a first-person perspective similar to an action camera.

From Ryan's viewpoint, looking at the building on his side and the two scavengers hiding beside the entrance below, Leo Qin felt uncertain about hitting his target.

The more Leo Qin thought about it, the more unreliable he felt, prompting him to tentatively ask, "Ryan, why don't you hand me back the compound bow? You can stay on your side and keep an eye on the enemy's movements, just report their positions to me."

It seemed Ryan didn't hear him at all, remaining completely unresponsive.

Leo Qin felt a bit anxious, "Come on, this isn't the time for jokes! Those scavengers are desperate criminals. If your position gets exposed, it could be very dangerous!"

Ryan still didn't respond in any way.

Leo Qin took a deep breath and urged, "Hey, kid, are you listening? Hurry up and give me back the compound bow!"

"Shut up and be quiet." Ryan replied impatiently.
