Chapter 13: The Power of the Miniature Self-Destruct Trucks
At first glance, it was still unclear whether the raw meat had already spoiled.
Initially, Lin Cheng thought it was just a small portion of food, but after further exploration, he discovered that the cold storage of this hotpot restaurant contained a large amount of ingredients that hadn't yet been taken away.
Lin Cheng quickly pinpointed the location of the hotpot restaurant on his map, and the drone could bring back some of the food.
However, due to the small size of the drone, each transport load was quite limited, so it could only bring back as much as possible with each trip.
It would take at least a dozen trips to move all the contents of the cold storage.
Lin Cheng selected some raw meat that still looked decent and brought back a batch of food to check its condition. If the food had already spoiled, there would be no need to continue the transportation.
But during the drone's return trip, the signal was suddenly lost without warning.
As the feed from the drone abruptly went black, Lin Cheng, who had been full of anticipation, suddenly froze.
He seemed to have just seen a shadow flash by the drone…
Upon reviewing the last footage from the drone and slowing it down to 10x speed, Lin Cheng could vaguely make out a bird-shaped alien creature rushing toward the drone!
In an instant, the drone lost the ability to transmit any more footage.
And the speed of that creature…
It was shockingly fast!
Lin Cheng sighed silently. It looked like his hopes of improving his meal today had to be abandoned.
He took out his notebook and began jotting down his observations, now recording a new type of alien creature.
Based on his previous experiences and the various alien creatures he had observed through the drone, Lin Cheng made a summary.
To defeat these alien creatures with a mere mortal body, one must understand their characteristics and weaknesses.
The wolf-like creatures hide during the day and are active at night. They possess a keen sense of smell and have strong destructive power.
Their only weakness is their poor vision.
On the other hand, the bird-like creatures are the opposite: active during the day and hidden at night. Their sizes vary, but their speed is astonishing.
Their weakness is that their attack methods are limited, and they are far less destructive than the wolf-like creatures.
Besides these, there are all kinds of other creatures of various sizes, but their forms are so bizarre that they cannot be accurately described by the shape of any known animal.
Some alien creatures are completely formless, twisted masses of limbs, hardly resembling anything one could call a living being.
The only good news so far is that all the alien creatures that have appeared so far are classified as Level 5 threats.
Using drones, Lin Cheng had mapped out the positions of the alien creatures near the shelter. The creatures were mainly clustered in three locations.
Three miniature self-destruct trucks were dispatched to these three clusters. The explosive power of the trucks was more than enough to annihilate all the alien creatures in these areas!
With three thunderous booms, thick smoke billowed into the sky, and every alien creature within the blast radius was obliterated!

The system notification for successfully killing the alien creatures rang in Lin Cheng's ears a full eighty times!
Just the experience points gained from killing these alien creatures totaled 400!
If he hadn't spent 100 points earlier on building the shooting range, the shelter's level would have already increased!
After clearing out the threats near the shelter, Lin Cheng finally let out a sigh of relief. At least now, he didn't have to worry about being woken up in the middle of the night by alien creatures knocking at the door.
And tomorrow, he could put the plan to cultivate farmland on the agenda. The water supply for irrigation was sufficient, and there was already some stored fertilizer—though not much.
As for why he didn't store more fertilizer, the reason was simple. Vegetables grown with organic fertilizer are healthier, and the source of organic fertilizer…
No need to elaborate on that.
In short, this was a form of waste recycling, transforming unusable resources into something they could use.
The first wave of the alien creature onslaught following the Great Reckoning had mostly stabilized. During this upcoming vacuum period, Lin Cheng planned to make good use of the time to search for supplies.
Even if a few stragglers remained, their firearms were powerful enough to deal with them. Level 5 alien creatures were no longer a threat as long as their numbers weren't overwhelming!
Apart from the plans not yet implemented, there was something else weighing on Lin Cheng's mind.
Previously, two people had stumbled near the shelter, almost exposing its location.
Now that surface-level construction had begun at the shelter, if some sort of protective measures weren't taken, it would be a problem if some lucky person happened to wander nearby.
Even if they couldn't get into the shelter, lingering outside would eventually attract the attention of alien creatures.
If their bad luck attracted some Level 4 or even Level 3 threats, or worse…
Lin Cheng didn't dare to imagine the consequences.
Level 4 alien creatures already possess rudimentary intelligence, and Level 3 creatures can probably devise strategies, like lying in wait.
There was no guarantee Lin Cheng could stay inside the shelter forever!
Since his life was on the line, Lin Cheng had to rethink his strategy. Suddenly, a bright idea flashed in his mind.
Earlier today, while observing the outside world through his drone, he saw that the official shelters had been surrounded by many dismantled electric fences.
While those fences wouldn't hold up against alien creatures, they would certainly be enough to deter humans!
Lin Cheng slapped his thigh and immediately decided on his next course of action.
Tomorrow morning, he would drive to the shelter in the western part of the city. During this vacuum period after the first wave of the alien onslaught, he would collect some electric fences and supplies.
Besides finding the fences and supplies, he also needed to get some generators!
These generators would serve as backup power sources. If something went wrong with the solar panels, the generators would be the fallback.
Moreover, the meager electricity generated by the solar panels wouldn't be enough to power the large electric fences.
