Chapter 11: Graduation Season

When possible, actions speak louder than words.

Dealing with someone like Carson didn't require Finney to use his newly acquired Demonic Armor, or even the Golden Great Evolution Technique. With the advantage of striking first and relying on his years of training and quick reflexes, a few moves later, Carson was already lying on the ground. His friends, still in shock, stood there dumbfounded.

Thanks to Carson's outstanding ability to stir up trouble, the school rumors had now turned into reality. Finney could only imagine how exaggerated the new stories would be.

Glancing at the remaining group, Finney decided against escalating the situation. Instead, he advised, "I've trained in martial arts. Think carefully before you act. If you come at me, I guarantee someone here will end up worse off than I do, even if I go down."

Had he said this before knocking Carson out, it would have sounded like a taunt. But with Carson now groaning on the ground, his face a mess, Finney's words carried a lot more weight.

The group exchanged uneasy glances. They were young and full of bravado, but they weren't stupid. While they were close to Carson, Finney's skill was enough to make them reconsider stepping forward.

Seeing their hesitation, Finney added, "You should probably get him to the nurse's office."

His words provided them with a graceful way out. They nodded in silent agreement, then carefully lifted the unconscious Carson and made their way toward the nurse's office.

Watching them leave, Finney smirked slightly, then called a cab to head to Skye's little shop. He knew things were going to get busier soon, and he might not have as many chances to make Purple Chicken Wraps in the future.

Sneaking in through the back, Finney found Skye sitting comfortably on the couch, her fingers flying across her laptop keyboard, completely oblivious to his arrival.

Peeking over her shoulder, he saw lines of code flashing rapidly on the screen. It seemed she was hacking some website—an everyday activity for Skye, who proudly considered herself a hacker.

Moments later, she finished her attack, letting out a long breath and stretching in satisfaction. Her elegant figure formed a graceful curve as she did so.

Finney couldn't help but cough lightly, startling Skye so much that she nearly threw her laptop across the room.

"When did you get here?"

Skye glared at him like an angry kitten, but her fury only made her look more adorable rather than intimidating.

"I've been here for a while. You looked pretty focused, so I didn't want to interrupt," Finney replied, unfazed by her glare. "Now, hurry up and get ready. We need to open the shop."

"Hmph, I'm your older sister! Stop acting like you're older than me all the time."

Skye grumbled as she reluctantly got up to start tidying up. Even though Finney was only fifteen, no one who spent time with him ever treated him like a child.

Watching her bustling about, Finney hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Skye, after graduation, I might have a lot of things to take care of. I won't be around as much."

"Have you decided which university you're going to?" Skye asked, not thinking much of his words.

"Probably Columbia."

"Hmm? But that's still in New York, right?" Skye asked, puzzled. Seeing the slightly conflicted look on Finney's face, she realized something was off. "What's wrong?"

"Even though it's still in New York, I probably won't have much time to come here and sell chicken wraps anymore."

Finney decided to lay it all out. He knew that Skye's real passion was computers, not running a shop. The store was precious to them because it was their shared little haven.

In the past, Skye would have pressed him for more details, but after learning about Finney's special abilities, she understood that her younger brother was far more mysterious than she'd initially thought.

"Do we need to sell the place?" Skye asked, a little reluctant. When the shop first opened, she had run it by herself. Business had been so bad that she was almost bankrupt before Finney stepped in to help, turning things around.

"Of course not. Just because we don't run it all the time doesn't mean we need to sell it. We could even turn it into a café or something."

After two years of running the shop, Finney had grown attached to it. Besides, he didn't really need money, so there was no reason to sell the place.

Skye's face brightened at his response, but after a moment of hesitation, she added, "Finney, I don't know what you're planning, but please be careful. And if there's anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask."

"I will."

Finney knew she was worried about him. He stepped forward and gave her a quick hug, then patted her on the shoulder. "Actually, I'm planning to learn magic. If it's possible, I'll ask if you can learn too."

"?"

If it weren't for the strange things she had seen over the past few days, Skye would have thought Finney was joking. Even though she had witnessed his "superpowers," hearing him talk about learning magic was still hard to believe.

"Come on, let's get the shop open," Finney said, shifting the conversation. As he spoke, he summoned a fresh batch of Purple Chicken Wraps, neatly arranging them in the display. Since Skye already knew about his abilities, there was no point in hiding them.

When Skye unlocked the door, the shop was already filled with steaming hot chicken wraps, looking as if they had just come out of the oven.

After a busy day that added a little more experience to his depleted skill bar, Finney and Skye headed home. In the afternoon, he had also informed their regular customers that the shop might close temporarily since he would be attending university soon.

While his loyal customers were disappointed, they were understanding, especially since many of them were high-profile business figures. Of course, in exchange for their patience, Finney had to lift the usual purchase limits, using his powers discreetly to keep up with the demand.

That evening, Finney thought about Carson, who he had sent to the hospital earlier. He wondered what would happen the next day. He had gone easy on him, so while Carson had looked bad, his injuries weren't serious enough to keep him from coming to school.

To Finney's surprise, Carson didn't show up the following day. After asking around, he found out that Carson had taken the day off.

It didn't take him long to figure out why. While Carson's injuries weren't severe, the marks on his face were still visible. No high schooler wanted to show up with obvious signs of having been beaten up, so taking a day off to save face was understandable.

With Carson out of the picture, Finney felt relieved. However, the incident had spread his reputation far and wide. Good grades, good looks, fighting skills, and a well-off family background—Finney seemed to have it all. Although he was still young, anyone who met him in person didn't seem to mind his age.

As graduation season approached, Finney suddenly found himself at the center of attention. His sudden popularity left him feeling more than a little uncomfortable.
