Outside the penthouse, the city had already woken and everyone was bustling about. The Classic city sounds echoed in the air as the buildings threw back the sounds everyone was making: the taxis blaring their horns, people arguing, all of it.
It took around twenty minutes to walk from his place to his work, ten minutes if he took public transport.
Logan walked through the market that was set up a few streets away from the office, stopping in front of a stall selling Turkish Delight. He picked out a box full of a variety of flavours and payed the salesman before he continued on his way.
Looking up at the sky, Logan saw a few rain clouds in the distance and cursed at himself for not bringing an umbrella. It probably wouldn't rain but still...
He entered the bright entryway to the office and made his way to the receptionist, plastering on a charming smile.
"I heard it was your birthday today." When Logan spoke, his voice was warm and soft; it was the sort of voice that could make anyone fall for him instantly. "Here, for you." He handed placed the box full of sweet treats on the desk.
The receptionist blushed as he spoke to her and stuttered slightly when she responded.
"Th- thank you very much. You didn't have to get me anything, though.."
"No worries! It's a pleasure just to see your smile." He smiled again and leaned over the desk, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "You have such beautiful eyes..." He said, as if lost in thought, captivated by her beauty.
She blushed even harder as her blue eyes widened. She stuttered again for a moment before giving up on trying to say what she wanted to. In the end, she just thanked him again.
Logan glanced at his watch and said with a sigh, "I'd better be off. Happy birthday!" With that, he turned around and headed towards the lifts, not waiting for a reply.
Inside the lift, it was very crowded as people made their way to their floors. No one talked, making the music that played through the low quality speakers seem rather awkward. This early in the morning, the cheerfulness of the tune seemed to laugh in everyone's faces.
Most people were still rubbing the sleep from their eyes as they sipped their warm caffeinated drinks, the sound of their morning alarms still echoing in their ears.
Logan, who had yet to sleep still, seemed to somehow be in the best condition.
The lift chimed and Logan, along with a few others, stepped out.
The day went by as all the pervious days at this workplace went by, slow and with nothing of interest happening. The most exiting thing was when there was the predicted rain. Everyone stopped what they were doing for a moment to look out the window and complain about how they had to walk back, or to the train station, in the downpour.
In the end, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared, leaving bright blue sky and a warm sun shining down on them. No one would say it, but they were all secretly disapointed. The rain brought with it a sense of relief, of washing the day away.
Logan left the office and started his short walk back to his penthouse. There was still a few puddles on the pavement that hadn't yet been dried out by the sun. He walked through them, not minding that the end of his trousers got slightly damp. They needed a wash anyway.
He was lost in thought as he waited for the traffic lights to turn ref and the pedestrian crossing lights to turn green. He walked across the road, only looking up when he heard shouting and a car horn.
Time seemed to slow down as the truck's breaks failed and it came roaring down the hill towards him. It was like everything was in slowmotion. Each second feeling like an hour.
He stood paralized in the middle of the road. The only thoughts in his head was how cliche it was to get hit by a truck and how much it was like a scene from Final Destination.
He couldn't feel anything as the cab of the truck made impact with his body.
