Chapter 44

The soft rays of the morning sun filtered through the window of Ethan's car, warming his face and rousing him from a restless sleep.

Blinking a few times, he adjusted the car seat back to its upright position, wincing at the stiffness in his neck.

He had spent the night in his car parked in front of Charlotte's apartment, unwilling to leave even though he knew she wasn't there.

Rubbing his eyes, Ethan glanced at the dashboard, and It was nearly 7 a.m.

He immediately stepped out of the car, stretching his long legs and rolling his shoulders to shake off the discomfort.

Looking around, he noticed the street was quiet, the world still waking up.

He walked over to Charlotte's apartment building, his eyes scanning every window and door as if she might suddenly appear.

But the place was as silent and still as it had been last night. Ethan clenched his fists, frustration bubbling within him.
