Ethan pulled the car into the driveway of Charlotte's apartment, turning off the engine.
Charlotte sat stiffly in her seat, her hands clenched tightly on her lap. Ethan noticed her unease and asked gently, "Are you okay?"
Charlotte blinked, realizing he was talking to her.
"Yeah," she mumbled, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
They got out of the car, walking side by side toward the entrance. Charlotte fumbled with her keys, her hands trembling slightly as she unlocked the door.
Ethan observed her closely, concern etched on his face.
"You sure you're alright?" he asked again.
"I'm fine," she replied quickly, pushing the door open.
As they stepped inside, both froze in surprise. Sitting on the couch, with a calm and warm presence, was Charlotte's grandmother, Mrs. Williams.
"Grandma?" Charlotte's voice was filled with love and surprise as she rushed over to the elderly woman.
