The celestial sanctuary of Elyndra glowed softly, its golden rivers and radiant skies a stark contrast to the heavy atmosphere inside the grand hall. Xalin sat on a smooth bench carved from light, his head bowed and his fists clenched tightly. His companions, Lira and Kell, stood nearby, equally solemn, their bodies still recovering from their last battle. Across the room, Mundus, the celestial guide and healer, observed them with sorrowful eyes.
"There is something I must tell you," Mundus began, his resonant voice filled with a weight that silenced the room. "It is about Terra."
Xalin's head shot up at the mention of her name. "Terra? What happened to her?"
Mundus sighed deeply, the constellation patterns on his flowing robes dimming slightly. "Terra is gone, Xalin. She fell in battle."
The words struck like a hammer. Xalin felt his breath catch as a storm of emotions churned within him. "No," he whispered, shaking his head. "That can't be true. She was strong. She was—"
"She was strong," Mundus interrupted gently. "But her opponent was far beyond her. Allow me to show you what happened."
---
Mundus raised his hand, and shimmering threads of golden light spread through the air, weaving into a vivid projection. The sanctuary dimmed, and the scene unfolded before them—a barren, rocky battlefield beneath a blood-red sky. At the center of the chaos stood Terra, her stance firm, her body aglow with earthy power. Her black hair was wild, and her green eyes burned with determination as she faced her opponent: Sylas, a towering Wight clad in dark armor.
"Sylas," Mundus explained, "a vampire subspecies known for their unparalleled strength. While weaker than Roylen, he possesses all the abilities of a vampire except blood manipulation. Against most, he is an unstoppable force."
In the vision, Sylas loomed over Terra, his pale skin and glowing crimson eyes giving him an almost otherworldly presence. His every movement exuded raw power, and the ground trembled beneath his heavy steps. Terra stood her ground, summoning massive pillars of stone from the earth, her mastery of her element unparalleled.
"You have courage," Sylas said, his deep voice echoing across the battlefield. "But courage will not save you."
Terra didn't respond with words. Instead, she raised her arms, and the ground erupted around her. Massive boulders launched toward Sylas like cannonballs, each one aimed with precision and force. Sylas moved with shocking speed for his size, dodging the first few projectiles before shattering a boulder with a single punch.
"She fought valiantly," Mundus said as the battle raged. Terra created a fortress of stone around herself, walls that moved with her, shielding her from Sylas's relentless assault. She counterattacked with jagged spikes and tremors that made the battlefield unsteady.
Sylas, however, was undeterred. His raw strength allowed him to tear through Terra's defenses, his fists and kicks destroying everything she threw at him. At one point, he leapt high into the air, crashing down with enough force to send a shockwave rippling outward, collapsing Terra's fortress.
"She's no match for him," Kell muttered under his breath, his golden eyes dark with anger. "She shouldn't have fought alone."
Terra, undeterred even as she bled from a wound on her shoulder, pulled herself to her feet. She summoned a massive stone golem, its arms the size of tree trunks, and sent it charging toward Sylas. The Wight met the golem's charge head-on, smashing through its stone body with devastating punches. Despite the golem's size and strength, it crumbled under Sylas's unrelenting blows.
The vision showed Terra breathing heavily, her movements slower, her energy waning. She raised one final wall of earth, its surface etched with runes of power, and channeled everything she had into it. The wall surged forward, splitting the earth as it hurtled toward Sylas.
Sylas smirked, raising his hand. With a deafening roar, he unleashed a dark energy blast that obliterated the wall and struck Terra directly. She was thrown back, her body hitting the ground with a sickening thud. Her aura flickered and faded as Sylas approached her limp form.
"She fought to her last breath," Mundus said softly as the vision faded. "But even her immense strength was not enough."
---
As the golden threads of the vision dissipated, the sanctuary was silent. Xalin stared at the ground, his hands trembling as Terra's final moments replayed in his mind. Her courage, her determination, her sacrifice—they all struck a chord deep within him.
Tears streamed down his face, unchecked and unbidden. "It's my fault," he said hoarsely. "If I'd been there, if I'd been stronger… she'd still be alive."
"No," Mundus said firmly, stepping closer to Xalin. "Terra made her choice. She fought with honor, knowing the risks. But there is more you must understand."
Mundus's glowing eyes bore into Xalin's. "Terra and her allies attacked first. Sylas and Roylen did not seek this fight."
Xalin looked up, his face a mask of disbelief. "You're saying she… started it?"
Mundus nodded gravely. "Roylen and Sylas were not acting out of malice. They were defending themselves. If anything, it was you who escalated the conflict."
Lira placed a hand on Xalin's shoulder, her voice soft. "Xalin… you couldn't have known."
"I should have," Xalin said bitterly, his voice breaking. "If I'd tried to understand Roylen instead of rushing to fight him, maybe Terra would still be here."
"You must not dwell on what-ifs," Mundus said. "Instead, honor her memory by learning from this. Move forward with clarity, not vengeance."

The Luminary Sage
Mundus shifted his stance, his voice taking on a more urgent tone. "Now, Xalin, we must discuss your transformation during your fight with Roylen. You achieved something no other Luminary has."
"What do you mean?" Xalin asked, his tears drying as curiosity replaced his grief.
"You are the first Luminary in history to achieve the Luminary Sage form," Mundus explained. "A perfect balance of light and shadow. Your predecessors—while powerful—never mastered this harmony. It makes you unique, and uniquely dangerous."
"Dangerous?" Xalin asked, frowning.
"Yes," Mundus said gravely. "The power of the Luminary Sage is immense, but it is also unstable. Without mastery, it could consume you entirely. This is why you must train. You must understand this form if you are to face the challenges ahead."
Kell crossed his arms, his voice filled with frustration. "Roylen's not part of the Legion of Doom. So why does it feel like everything is getting worse?"
Mundus turned to Kell, his golden gaze steady. "The Legion of Doom seeks to plunge the universe into chaos. Roylen's power—should it fall into their hands—would tip the scales in their favor. But as of now, he has no ties to them. If you could bring him to your side, he would be an invaluable ally."
Xalin's jaw clenched. "You're asking me to ally with the person who killed Terra?"
Mundus's expression softened. "I know it is difficult. But Sylas—not Roylen—was responsible for Terra's death. And Sylas acted in defense. You must separate your personal feelings from what is necessary."
Xalin took a deep breath, the weight of the conversation bearing down on him. "You're right," he said finally. "If there's anyone to blame, it's me. I should've understood the situation better."
---
Mundus turned to Kell, his gaze shifting from sympathy to determination. "And you, Kell. Your shadow abilities are formidable, but they are incomplete."
Kell's golden eyes narrowed. "Incomplete? What do you mean?"
"Your power lacks refinement," Mundus said. "Against opponents like Roylen or Sylas, brute strength and basic shadow manipulation will not suffice. You must discover new ways to wield your power—ways that are unique to you."
Kell nodded slowly, his mind already racing with possibilities. "I'll figure it out."
Mundus smiled faintly. "Good. For the battles ahead, you must all be at your best."

A New Resolve
As the conversation drew to a close, Mundus placed a hand on Xalin's shoulder. "The road ahead will be fraught with challenges, but you are not alone. Trust in your allies, and in yourself. Terra's sacrifice will not be in vain."
Xalin met Mundus's gaze, his grief tempered by resolve. "Thank you, Mundus. For everything."
Lira and Kell stood beside him, their expressions equally determined. The three of them had suffered a great loss, but they would not let it define them. Together, they would grow stronger—and they would face whatever came next.
