Jenny had once thought she had seen the worst of humanity—perhaps she had—but as she looked around the place they called The Pit, she shuddered at the thought of what it truly meant to be human.
The central courtyard, formerly the recreation yard, was now called The Pit. It was a place Jenny had come to learn over the past two days as a place for punishment, fights, and executions.
The ground was soaked in blood, and piles of bodies littered the area as reminders of what happened to those who thought themselves above the boss of this place.
Makeshift gallows and cages holding tortured people loomed over the area, constant reminders of the settlement's brutality. Jenny found it hard to breathe in this condemned place—a place reeking of blood, decay, piss, and feces. She looked around in search of Chen, when her eyes landed on a young man with a once-innocent face, now reduced to a crudely cut-open corpse.
