chapter 1

It was a sunny Sunday morning when I woke up in bed, excited. I had never been this excited in my life before. I went downstairs and joined my parents for prayers, looking at my younger sister, Tessie, who was grinning at me. We finished praying, and before I could react, Tessie hugged me. "Oh, sis, you're finally going to school!" she exclaimed. That's right; I had just been admitted to Caleb University, a dream come true. "I know, sis, I'm so excited; I'm going to school," I replied. "Now, go upstairs and get dressed; you don't want to be late on your first day of school," Mom said. "Yes, Mom," I replied and ran back to my room.

This was the day I had been waiting for my whole life. The day before, I had packed everything I needed for school. I dashed into the bathroom, took a bath, and came out. I put on my crop top and jeans, and after getting dressed, I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. I went downstairs and joined my parents for breakfast, which was my favorite food - fried rice and chicken. I looked at Mom, thinking she was the best. After eating, I helped mom with the dishes then Dad called me to the room and said, "Remember everything we told you; focus on your studies and be a good girl." "Yes, Daddy," I replied. I hugged my little sister, "I'll miss you so much, Liz," she said. "I'll miss you too," I replied. I hugged Mom, and she said, "Remember the daughter of whom you are." "I will, Mom; I promise," I replied. I looked at her and Tessie one more time before leaving with Dad.
