Chapter 5
"Hey, Angel," he said, showing off his teeth. "Can't you find somewhere else to sit?"I asked
"He replied, "Oh really, you're the one sitting in my seat."
I said, "Oh my gosh, no wonder all eyes fell on me when I sat down there. How come no one told me?"
I looked at Olivia, and she mouthed a sorry to me.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know this seat was yours, or else I wouldn't have sat down here," I apologized.
"Just tell me you're falling for me, and I'll let it pass," he said mischievously.
"Falling for you..." I tried to reply when I heard my name, "Liz, can you please focus on the class instead of flirting with a boy?" said the professor.
I felt all eyes on me and lowered my gaze until the class was over. On my way out, Emmanuel held my arm.
"Let go of my hand," I said in anger, and all my books fell to the floor.
"Easy there, Angel, I just want to tell you, next time, don't ever go beside my seat again," he said and walked off without even helping me.
"Hey, Liz, what's wrong?" I looked up and saw Michael.
"It's nothing," I said, and he helped me up with the books.
"Don't let him get to you; that's how he usually behaves," said Michael.
"I won't let him get to me," I replied.
"Let me accompany you," he said.
"No problem," I replied.
We kept walking until we reached our dorm. "Thanks for walking me back; I really appreciate it," I thanked him.
"It's nothing; I'll be off now," he replied before leaving.
Kelly and Peace were not home, so I was a little bored and decided to take a walk around. I saw Olivia sitting on a bench across the stadium and joined her.
"Hey, Olivia," I greeted.
"Hey, Liz, listen, I know Emmanuel can be a jerk sometimes, but he's a good guy," she said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"He has actually helped me once before when I was in trouble, so he's not a bad guy at all," said Olivia.
"Oh... okay," I replied.
I saw her looking at the field and saw some boys playing football. "He is really cute, isn't he?" she asked.
"Don't tell me you like him," I asked, surprised.
"Oh, I do, but please don't tell anyone; that's why I choose to sit in front of him in class," she said.
"I won't; I promise," I replied. This girl is crazy; of all people, she chooses to fall in love with a bully. I sighed.
Suddenly, the ball came rolling over to us and hit Olivia. "Olivia, are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine; it's nothing much," she replied.
Just then, Emmanuel and another boy came running and picked up the ball. "Hey, can't you apologize? Don't you notice you hit someone?" I shouted.
Emmanuel walked over to us, and I saw him clearly; he was wearing only a singlet and a knicker, and God, I've never seen a view so breathtaking. I tried to avoid my gaze, but I just couldn't.
"Like what you see that much," he smirked.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Apologize to her now."
"You don't have any right to tell me what to do, and besides, you're not the one the ball hit; it's your friend, so why so much noise?" he said.
I was so angry; I looked at him and said, "You're such a spoiled jerk; no manners, nothing. I'm sure your momma taught you, but you didn't heed her advice."
God, what have I said? He looked at me in shock, and if eyes could kill, I would have been dead by now.
"You don't know what you're getting into, girl," he said and walked away.
"God, what have I gotten into? I'm in so much trouble," I said in panic.
"We're gonna figure something out," Olivia said.
We both left for our forms. The girls were not back yet, and there was nothing I wanted to do, so I slept off instead.
The next morning, I woke up and still didn't meet them; there was just a small note on the bed: "We've gone for our class, Liz; see you around." I bathed, dressed up, and left for class."I avoided Emmanuel throughout that day and thanked God he wasn't in any of my classes. Finally, I walked into my last class for the day, and I couldn't wait to be done and go home. The professor started teaching when Emmanuel walked in. I dropped my face down to avoid him seeing me and focused on my notes instead. Soon, it was almost the end of the class, and the professor said, 'We're going to have our project two weeks from now, and it's going to be a group work; you and your partner must work together.' He started calling names, and suddenly I heard, 'Emmanuel and Liz,' paired. I couldn't believe my ears."
The plot thickens! Liz and Emmanuel are paired for the project. Let's see what happens next!
