Chapter 10: Knowledge and Power

The next day at the academy, Kai arrived a bit early, taking his usual seat by the window. He watched as his classmates filled the room, chattering and laughing as they settled in. Today, he could sense a shift in the atmosphere—everyone seemed more focused than usual. They were nearing the end of the school year, and with it, the much-anticipated graduation test. Kai knew that this was a critical time.

Iruka-sensei entered the classroom, his usual friendly but firm demeanor in place. "Alright, everyone, settle down," he said, his voice carrying over the chatter. "Today, we're going to focus on some academic subjects. Remember, a shinobi needs to be intelligent as well as strong."

The class quieted, and Iruka began to review some fundamental math concepts, going over calculations and formulas that could be useful in the field. "Precision in measurement is critical for things like chakra control, explosive tags, and even simple tasks like calculating distances on a mission. A single error in your calculations can make all the difference," he explained, writing examples on the board.

Kai listened intently, jotting down notes as Iruka worked through some problems. Though he had covered more advanced math in his past life, he realized that understanding how math applied to the shinobi world could be advantageous.

("This world values strength, but it also requires strategy. Every detail counts. I'll make sure I master these fundamentals—they're as important as any jutsu.")

Iruka then moved on to chemistry, emphasizing the importance of understanding different elements and compounds for crafting tools, like smoke bombs and other equipment. "A shinobi must know the effects of different substances," he explained, sketching out diagrams of chemical reactions on the board. "If you know how to create explosive tags or handle smoke bombs, you'll be much more prepared on the battlefield."

Kai found this part particularly interesting. While he didn't rely on tools as heavily as most shinobi, he knew that knowledge of chemistry could be crucial in certain scenarios. The ability to understand and manipulate elements—especially combined with his chakra control—could open up new possibilities.

("I could combine these principles with chakra-infused items... it's something worth experimenting with later.")

The class was silent, all eyes on Iruka as he went over the basic elemental compounds that could be used to produce smoke or create small explosions. Naruto was attempting to follow along, though his expression showed he was struggling. Sasuke, on the other hand, looked focused and absorbed, as if he already understood everything Iruka was teaching. Ino and Sakura exchanged notes, whispering to each other as they kept up with Iruka's explanations.

After a brief break, Iruka moved on to the history of the shinobi world, recounting tales of previous Hokage and great wars. "Understanding our history will help you understand why we protect the village and each other. As future shinobi, it's your duty to carry on this legacy."

Kai listened closely, though he was more focused on the lessons of strategy embedded within the stories. Each Hokage, each clan, had faced their challenges and developed unique strengths. Understanding these histories, he realized, would give him insight into the way power worked in this world.

("Learning about the Hokage will be useful... especially if I want to surpass them all one day.")

As the lessons continued, Iruka finally shifted the focus to ninjutsu theory, preparing the class for the upcoming graduation test. "Remember, the test will require you to demonstrate your skills with the Clone Jutsu," he reminded everyone. "And while it may be one of the most basic techniques, performing it with precision will prove your mastery of chakra control."

This brought a murmur through the class. The Clone Jutsu was notoriously difficult for some, especially Naruto, who looked uneasy at the mention of it. Kai observed his reaction, noting the frustration in Naruto's eyes.

("It's hard for him to control his chakra, but he has potential. More than most realize.")

For Kai, the Clone Jutsu was straightforward, but he knew he couldn't afford to be overly confident. He would approach the test as carefully as he approached his training, leaving no room for error.

Iruka dismissed the class with a final reminder: "Your graduation test is coming up, so use this time wisely. Practice your basics, refine your skills, and remember what you've learned. Becoming a shinobi is no small feat."

As the students filed out, some stayed behind in small groups to review their notes, while others discussed strategies for the upcoming test. Kai took his time gathering his things, noting how some of the others seemed anxious, including Naruto, who stood by the door, a determined look on his face.

Outside the academy, Kai found a quiet training ground to run through some of his techniques. He practiced the Clone Jutsu slowly, keeping his chakra steady as he formed multiple clones, each one stable and solid. The movement felt natural, almost reflexive, and he practiced until it felt effortless.

After a while, he sheathed his katana and began refining his chakra control through various exercises. He visualized the concepts Iruka had covered, focusing on precise movements, knowing they would be crucial during the test.

("I'm close now. One step closer to graduation—and one step closer to my real journey.")

As the sun began to set, Kai finally headed home, feeling the weight of the day's training settle into his muscles. He knew the test was only days away, and soon, his path as a shinobi would officially begin.
