Avery lay on the velvet chaise, by the tall windows, lazily flipping through the magazine she had no interest in. The days have started blending in together ever since she came here.
She told herself, she would find an excuse to leave this place. Her mother was being taken care of by the best doctors here. Once she wakes up, she is out of here with her mother.
She heard a knock at the door. One of the staff members peeked in, holding the landline.
" Miss Avery…. um, it's Mr. Alex. On the house phone."
She blinked. "Alex?"
The worker nodded.
" He asked for you specifically."
Avery sat up and pushed her hair behind her ear. She took the phone and said calmly;
" Hello?"
A pause. Then a voice-smooth, deep, and as annoyingly composed as always.
" Babe, I left some files at home. I need them."
She frowned.
" Which files"
" Important files."
" How important?"
"…. Business important."
Avery rolled her eyes, already catching the hesitation in his voice.
"You're lying."
" No, I'm not."
" Alexander Gibson, I've been your secretary for God knows how long. I know when you're lying. You plan before going to the office. I know your voice when you lie"
There was a long pause before his voice came through.
"I am not lying. There are some business files I left behind. " Alex squirmed
Avery sighed.
" Whatever. When do you need it? "
" This afternoon, baby. It's urgent."
