The proposal for further backpack development passed surprisingly smoothly.
Apparently, there had always been plans to have him continue developing backpacks for Gundams.
At this rate, would he be the one to create the Impulse and ZAKU units in the future?
For now, though, that was still a distant goal.
Ensuring his own safety was the best choice for He Kui.
"He Kui, I didn't expect you'd finish the Gundam so quickly."
Standing at his radar station, He Kui was faced with his district head, Claudis.
"I was fortunate to make some breakthroughs," He Kui replied with a smile.
With his Hachi, the Magic Crab, and his newly developed MS, if he hadn't achieved something by now, all the upgrades he'd earned over the past two years would have been wasted.
"Haha, Director He is as modest as ever."
"But I actually came to ask if you'd like to attend our district head gathering in May City."
"A district head gathering?"
It was the first time He Kui had heard of this, and he looked puzzled.
"It's mostly for discussing future developments and sharing recent intelligence."
"Alright."
He Kui agreed without hesitation.
This seemed like a private gathering among the district heads, and being invited to attend was a golden opportunity.
More information was always welcome.
And he wasn't yet on the same level as a councilor.
Getting news from the district heads would give him a strategic advantage.
His rapid rise had been due not only to his abilities but also to his knowledge of the plot.
As the storyline ventured into unknown territory, maintaining connections and even building partnerships with the district heads became essential.
"I'll let you know the exact time later. And, of course, keep this confidential."
"No problem."
After ending the call, He Kui quickly activated the radar on the asteroid.
Through a reinforced quantum firewall, his signal reached the Haro at the DSSD space station, concealed and accurate.
As the darkness on the screen faded, an unexpected sight greeted He Kui: Serena, wearing only black stockings.
The impact was intense.
Although Serena was also wearing silk black underwear beneath her stockings, the delicate lace only enhanced the allure of her slender, tightly wrapped legs.
But before anyone else could issue a warning, Serena's wrist communicator began to emit a shrill alarm.
"Really, I was just about to take a bath."
Muttering, Serena shot a glance at He Kui's Haro before approaching it, her fingers rapidly typing something on her computer screen.
Soon, data on AI and thrusters synced to He Kui's screen.
The AI development was progressing rapidly.
They had discovered a method for creating a learning-type AI.
If progress continued at this pace, they could have a prototype within a year or two.
Unfortunately, He Kui couldn't wait that long, but the current version was still usable.
He glanced at the virtual display.
[Serena McGriff Affection Level: 88]
[Experience Boost: 3]
[Space Adaptability Grade B: (6780/10000)]
Serena's affection level was high enough, but he still couldn't visit her.
If the learning-type AI could be completed sooner, perhaps his Aegis could operate independently in the future.
Of course, that would be risky, so he would need to put several safeguards in place before he could trust the development.
[I can't make it this month.]
[Come whenever you can.]
"Not coming again… He's always busy. Tell him to come here, come here, come here…"
"What's wrong with working here?"
Serena muttered, and He Kui watched the animated bounce of her movements with a faint smile.
Though the sight was oddly stimulating, he prided himself on being a gentleman.
After a couple more glances, he prepared to end the call.
But just as his finger was about to press the exit button, an urgent alarm blared through his room.
It wasn't from his side—it was coming from DSSD.
Startled, Serena hurried over to the phone.
"What's going on?"
"Your parents, Serena… They were testing the Radiant Thruster outside, but a sudden solar storm erupted…"
"How are they?"
"The thruster exceeded its energy limit and detached automatically, but the solar storm caused the unit to lock up, making external control impossible."
"It seems the entire system has shut down."
A system shutdown didn't sound too serious, as the cockpit typically had oxygen tanks. As long as they could recover the unit, there were many ways to open it.
"But there's a group of pirates outside."
"We've sent security to engage them."
"I'm going too!"
Throwing on a jacket, Serena left her Haro behind and dashed toward the hangar.
"…Fine. If I reveal myself to Serena, she'll help keep it a secret."
He Kui saw two options: pretend he didn't know, which could result in Serena's parents' likely death based on the plot, or join Serena in the battle.
Deciding quickly, He Kui followed Serena, rolling along in his Haro.
In the low-gravity environment, his Haro moved even faster than Serena. By the time she opened the cockpit of one of the GINNs, He Kui's Haro had already arrived.
And it was in the GINN Serena was about to board.
Given that Serena wasn't experienced in combat, He Kui didn't want to be in a situation where he'd have to protect both a new unit and Serena in a one-against-many battle.
Besides, he didn't have launch clearance and would probably be stuck on his own.
"Haro?!"
Serena looked at the floating Haro in front of her, stunned.
"Let me handle this."
He Kui decided to stop hiding.
"You… You really can see everything!"
Recalling the previous images, Serena covered her chest with one hand.
Then, realizing the urgency of the situation, she quickly lowered her hand.
"Fine, but let me take care of it."
"Are you sure?"
"How is your signal reaching this far and staying strong?"
Questioning him nonstop, Serena's hands worked quickly as she opened the panels on Haro and the GINN's control console, connecting the wires.
"It's because my radar is top-notch."
After a brief explanation, He Kui saw that the control link was established and pulled out his own remote control console.
Fortunately, he hadn't put it away.
With previous experience, He Kui smoothly positioned himself at the launch catapult.
"Are you sure? There's no delay, right?"
Serena wasn't entirely sure of He Kui's abilities.
After all, last time he stayed behind the light shield, only showcasing his shooting skills—but shooting well didn't necessarily mean skilled piloting.
"No delay, full power."
He Kui was thrilled.
It had been so long since he fought a battle without delay. Although he had restrained himself on Earth, the delay had always been a frustrating limitation.
